Normaly the droprate is 33% in that area, double it and 2/3 chests are golden.
I do this with a 60% chance to retain.

If you run in hardmode you have less chance to retain and 75+% x2 is 100% anyway but much more expensive.

Add these results in: I've just used my 100th lockpick so I thought I'd post some results

Where: Poison Outcrops Normal Mode
Parameters: Lucky 4, Treasure Hunter 4, Wisdom 4
Modus Operandi: Merch anything above r9 after salvaging any mods that are both useful (ie not hale and hearty) and perfect (ie not +29hp). No items were sold to players.

Initial investment
100 lockpicks: 1250g each = 125000 gold

Chests opened: 238 (Compared with the statistical predictor of 250)
Rares obtained: 157 (Compared with the statistical predictor of 142)

Returns
Merchant gold: 71203 (includes 1 sup vig, 1 ruby, 5 radiants)
Treasure points: [email protected] = 23800 (based on aprox cost of running whitman's folly on a normal weekend)

My weekend was much more casual. Since Friday afternoon, I probably spent about 12 hours chest running in Normal Mode. I used 14 lockpicks and 4 keys.

I used two characters, one with both Level 1 titles and the other with just the one. (Used second as she was doing Gate of Pain mission.) My lockpick retention was running about 2/3 most of the weekend until tonight when I went out with the two remaining picks (one of which had already been used once) and had a pick open five chests. I also got my only key drop of the weekend.

Off the top of my head, I got a gold req 9 FDS (my first that wasn't blue), Ancient daggers and a Bladed Recurve bow. Also got a bit excited when a req 9 pair of Dragon Scythes dropped, but they turned out to be 19% under 50 and obviously not inscribable (factions). Will have to stick with my req 11 15/50 pair, for the time being.

Almost everything else was req 10+. Amongst those were Ancient scythes and bows. Which are still keepers, until I find better versions. I'd really hoped to finally have a zealous scythe mod, but all I got was *another* zealous sword mod - can't complain, but it seems I'm never short on Warrior kit, despite hardly ever playing the class!

A couple of observations - high end areas really suck. More grapes and what's really weird - the number of really dull skins from RoT & the fire islands seemed far higher than anywhere else. After wading through those areas, you really don't want stuff like "Wooden Longbow" or "Frost Artifact", even if they are gold.

I also noticed some areas dropping grapes seemingly exclusively - I took my Sin to Pongmei Valley (for old times sake) and got grapes from 6 canthan keys. That's probably the worst run of "luck" I had. Still, I went back in hard mode and an Elite Necro tome dropped, so it's not all bad.

All in all, I was impressed. The gold drop rate seemed far higher than I expected and I got some nice stuff. Great event.

First 5-6 time in HM i had 2xelite RT, Elite monk, 2x Gothic dual axe and Dragon scythes drops all crap tho but one +30hp and i sad OMG and buy 50 lockpicks and than, rest was crap

Think i'm up to 7 elite ranger tomes and 3 elite paragon tomes now... *sigh*

I was doing runs in NM, but got sick of the purples that were starting to drop in increasing amounts, so went back to HM.

I guess now that the weekend is over the droprate will be worse than before and i'll be back to a reasonable rate of golds. But hey aslong as the 15^50s keep rolling in i'm not complaining, got about 15-20 of em now.

Do regular tomes count as a rare drop? I haven't had a single purple chest drop this weekend so it's boosted my wisdom title some. I was mainly doing the Deep NM HM, Raisu NM, Jade Sea and Echovald HM NM. This weekend was mainly concentrated on boosting my treasure and wisdom title. Total net loss is about 10k. I got a few nice skins with high requirement but I don't care cause who'd know anyway.

I have horrible luck with lockpick retention, 5 out of 30 something. I'm still miffed about it being based on the lucky [and treasure] title.

We made an Urgoz run in Hard Mode at Saturday and from the 4 Locked Chests we reached on the way I received 3 golden items (complete merchant fodder, not even one single somehow useful upgrade) and a white (!) Elementalist Tome.

During 2 hours of "something" at Sunday (elite capping, Sunspear Point farming from r3 to r5, etc.) I received 2 Lockpicks - that was "over average" from my viewpoint.

I might only be a "casual" player anymore (ok, Urgoz took 6 hours, that's not casual anymore...) and did some other activities the weekend but personally I can not speak about "lavish loot" at all.

Seems I have to try to convince myself that there is no "uber loot finding" in Guild Wars - except you go farming-your-butt-of. Which ain't much of a problem anyway because stat-wise Guild Wars is no item-centric game (collectors for the win).

To be honest I try'll not choose my activities based on the announced special weekends - it simply doesn't pay out. I should do what I consider most fun... what a computer game is all about in the end anyway...

I didn't do any chest run at all, just go out and farm LB point in the desolation area in HM. Open the locked chest along the way, there were a lot of nice drop, desolation Sword, ancient Axe, both req 12 and a bunch of staffs, butterfly mirror etc. I was after that sword skin for sometime and now i got it, inscriptable ftw.

All in all it was a good weekend, both in game and the weather outside.

Not too much here, just an Urgoz normal mode run and some tombs hard mode runs. Never saw an non-gold drop from a chest in any of the runs for all the players! Couple of elite tome chest drops for people in the tombs runs (monk and warrior).

Yeah, I'm not 100% on this weekend ey...

Rare drops did indeed drop, but not in the form of rare items (Sept for every kind of Plagueborn weapon and a few Celestials). what I did notice was the mods were indeed rare... I got 2 20/20 for sword, 3 for bow, perfect vamp strings and TONS of 15^50's!!!

So i dunno hey, still trying to decide...

31 Chests => 4 Golds. All rubbish golds at that and all lockpicks broken - every single one...I gave up after 31 chests...didnt see the point in wasting more money when I seem to get more golds for my money at times other than this "special weekend".

Double chance of golds? umm....lol? I'm sorry, I know I'm unlucky...but THAT unlucky? I know people who claim to have had near to nothing BUT golds all weekend...strings of purples on a "special" weekend is just poor. My account just seems cursed sometimes.

a good weekend for my wisdom and unlucky titles (got lotsa gold drops) a terrible weekend for my purse, out of 50 gold items had 3 useful insignias, 0 good mods, 1 goodish rune. Lost all my lockpicks pretty much 1st time, except 1 that worked twice

and over the entire weekend only had 1 lockpick drop! like huh? 1 lockpick in 20ish hours of play? i must have done atleast 9 HM missions over the weekend and still only 1 lockpick drops and no keys in the normal mode missions i did either. U sure it wasnt half chance for them to drop

? I did note alot of scrolls seemed to drop in both modes.

Not that im complaining atleast it was a boost for my wisdom and Unlucky

if they have another event like that remind me not to spend it in tryia though hehe

75k-ish spent on lockpicks 11k earned back (including money from missions etc.)

Eh, I did nothing but hard mode chest running - between my wife and I we opened around 40 chests - every one of them gold except for 3 normal tomes. Then again, when we play hard mode, we usually get something like 80-90% golds, so nothing much new there. Got some decent stuff, lots of elite tomes. Nothing to write home about.

I got some intersting drops from this weekend.Thou I want the gold shadow bow.But chests wont spawn on the shadow army groups that much.

I am not complaining. Even on Non-special Weekends I can never seem to get lucky with drops, except maybe 1 or 2 times a month, its all good, I just love playing the game, and would like to have a little luck a little more often. but as I said it's all good, and I am not going to stop playing just because my luck in on the unlucky side.

Well, I'm not here to whine about the bad drops or anything like that. Yes, I did get quite the odd number of bad golds from HM chests. But I got golds out of EVERY chest I opened, which advanced my Wisdom title track. If I do say so my self, that's pretty awesome.

Did anyone notice, a few times, getting an odd number of gold drops from mobs? I took a few trips with my ranger out to trap the Stygian vale, and seemed a gold dropped from every group for like 4 or 5 runs. Sure only 1 or 2 where worth anything, but seemed pretty awesome. And a few times, a gold dropped for my ele while she was out with heros/henchies doing chest runs/sunspear point farming in the desolation from random undead mobs. Was pretty decent.

This totally make me trust HM chests more, because the last time I went chest hunting in the desolation, I got grape drops out of chests. I was pretty angry.

I spent 1500 gold for this non max damage high req grape? Bollocks!

But anyhoo, after opening maybe 15 chests (quite small, I know.) I didn't get 1 elemental sword. D: The one sword besides the IDS, that I want? Man.

But the event was pretty sweet. Hit Wisdom #2.

And even closer to teasure title #2.

very odd. throughout the weekend i didnt get a single good chest drop, nor did I see a single lockpick or key drop...
but then shortly after the weekend ended I got a gold twin hammer from a chest, white dye, black dye, decent purple salient sword, and a lockpick O.O (over the course of a tombs run and a couple hardmode plains of jarin spider-killer runs)

Pretty sweet weekend, i atually had trouble running trough my lockpicks

Had a 53% retain rate but i used 40 keys and opend 120 chests with them ^^ best i got was probaly a perfect rightious maul (Wich i totally forgot that they even existed

what chests are you opening? opening 31 ascalon chests wont get you much in the way of drops

Since I usually have abyssmal luck with chest drops, I didn't even bother. But I did go out questing quite a bit and noticed a higher percentage (for me) of dye drops (no black or white, tho

) and amount of gold bits, runes/insignias and a few keys including a miner's key. In the chests I found during the quests, golds dropped more often than not - a decided improvement for me!

I also romped to a few of the 'free' treasure chests in Elona (normally forget all about them - and didn't even get to the higher ones, I was so busy elsewhere). Out of those, I put some extra 17K back into storage not counting the costs of incidentals (bought a few keys and armor, etc.) and pulled all gold items, some very interesting/nice.

One of my favorite drops/rewards was a +30hp, +5egy (no penalty) gold bow

. Several *nice* staves, couple winged axes, couple bows - most went to the merchant but a few are saved into storage for later use or on heroes who desperately needed new weapons.

All in all, a highly rewarding weekend. Besides, I don't login in to farm; I login to play the game. Profit is pure gravy.

The only explanation for lack of golds is you were running the wrong place in NM...

100% gold drops in HM RoT. ~75% gold drops in NM RoT.

And thats over at least 100 lockpicks. Probably nearer 200.

Well, just had enough time to vanquish two areas in the Desolation. I don't think I saw a single grape from any chests, and had some fairly decent drops.

Including:
3 lockpicks fell (I was rather pleased... I never pass up a chest...)
2 req 9 Skull Flatbows (these any good?)
1 req 12 (bleh) Ripper Blade (first I'd ever had dropped, pity it's not popular...)
2 Elite Tomes
4 - 5 Gold armors, no superior runes worth freaking out over
3 Radiant insignias... but some were from critter drops I believe.

Come to think of it... in lieu of grapes, I did get two regular tomes from chests.

Consider that I didn't have to change my normal gameplay to benefit from the weekend, I have to say that it was a great event for me.

I got a lot of golds from chests this weekend; it went pretty well actually.

I really wanted a jade sword though and didn't manage to acquire one for my warrior (sniff), but lots of staffs that will be great for my heroes or that have decent mods. And 1 sup vigor rune.

(oddly enough, also 3 greens yesterday, playing with a full party of heroes/hench)

A nice event. Vanquished 3 areas and got about 8 picks. I also created a Legendary survivor in 16 hours 10 min, and in doing so picked up about 10 picks.
Did a little chest running in NM and HM with a decent amount of rares.

I hope we could keep the increased lockpick drop rate as the norm.

I was reallying looking forward to this event as I like chests (OooO) and gold drops even if they are crappy. But this one was not so great for me and I actually spent at least 10 hours playing this weekend. Sure, I got a couple jade key drops and probably more than normal golds from chests, but was expecting more really. Got a lot of grapes from chests; so much that I doubled checked to make sure it was still a promo weekend on chest drops.
Not really complaining so much as just commenting. Not as exciting for me as when they made FoW and UW open -- that was a marathon of a weekend.

I did a whole mess of stuff this weekend (50/50 hard mode), not one grape from a chest. I *did* use far more keys/lockpicks than what dropped, but all in all a good weekend. Hooray for the better end-loot in the deep/urgoz making people actually play there again too.

Spent the weekend farming and opening chests - 100% golds - so IMHO the weekend was great. I hope it is repeated. Made a nice chunk of cash from elite tomes, a sup vigor or two, and a couple of decent golds (anyone want to buy req 10 15>50 chromium shards?

I'm dreading going back to regular farming now that it's over, and breaking all my lockpicks for crappy purples...

One Gold Sephis Axe Req 12 (But at least is had a Stance bonus) Got one earlier REQ 9 with nothing at all
2 gold armors (Beast master and Post nerfed Divine Runes) Awesome

I liked the increase in lock pick and keys dropping. Got 4
I hope they keep the chest percentage the same on Locked chests just because it is kind of tacky spending 1500 gold on a GRAPE. It is way too frustrating.
And also Solo Vanquished an Area which was good fun
Ok weekend though found a great new place to farm
