wooot for a traditional RPG with freedom of play.

I would actually believe that to be the third worst idea after:

1) Imbalanced HM
2) Armour Cap
3) Loot Scaling

1)I think the PvE game play is fine, maybe a little stale ATM if you've done most things, but GW:EN is round the corner to fix that.

2)The Armour stacking nerf was a much needed nerf for PvP, the game is balanced for PvP not PvE, the Armour balances effect very little in PvE to be honest and any smart players will just come up with new ways of doing things.

uhm, not going anywhere....have 12 toons moving thru all the chapters now and hope to get some of them to the ends before gwen. Though I will say that gwen will probably be the end for me. Gw2 doesnt sound very good for a person who gets sick watching some of the other games online (this one did it when I first started as well)....so I will stick in gw1 until I have finished my 14 toons (have 2 starters---one in pre and a para) thru all the chapters as well as sf and such, should take me another 2 years or so.
Its something to do, dont really care about the loot scaling and such----its still just a game in the end.

I'm fine with Guild Wars for now, but it definitely is not as fun as it used to be. After I get tired of GW:EN I don't know what I'll do, but Aion looks like it'd be an interesting game. I'll probably try that. And the big three Wii games coming out at the end of the year, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros.:Brawl. Especially Brawl.

Hmm...I never ever thought I'd consider anything other than GW once it tore me away from Morrowind, but I'm considering going back to Elderscrolls where "I" can play the role of ANET, lol. The only reason I haven't gotten Oblivion thus far was because of Factions and Nightfall coming out so quickly, and the hero system gave me a renewed interest in missions I hated doing before with PuGs.

But as of now when I think about playing GW I have no desire whatsoever to finish Nightfall, and I am burnt out on farming (Unless they give me inscriptions in Factions and Tyria, then I might go back for some items, lol.)

Currently, instead of playing GW, I've been enjoying RL. Playing real games with my 2 daughters. I found out I acutally like to read and have blown through Narnia, LotR, some cheesy books, and just finished Eragon today and am already a 1/4 through Eldest. Oh and yeah...coming here to see what everyone is mad about "today", lol.

All in all I still like GW, I mean for as long as everyone has been playing GW and it's releases. Add up what some of you people would have paid playing some of the other subscription games. You still come out ahead, wether price is an issue or not. The only other game that gave me that much bang for my buck was Morrowind. MMMM....Oblivion.

X.x I'm not going anywhere either...

The game needs to be fixed. GW 2 is Anet's last hope. Hope they don't screw it up.

GW is still ok, but it used to be epic. Now it's a struggling, sick game. Not dying, but sick. RA and HA are the only things active in PvP. TA died before Factions came out, and HA died in october of 2006. Great, fun, PUGs sadly died around NF with heroes.

Recently, I've seen some rebirth in the Prophecies Campaign, and NF is decently active. It's still a bad situation though. GW was so much better before. Anet sort of lost sight of where they heading. I see why people have left.

Good thing I can still find something good to do in GW. Guilds are the only thing keeping the game together. Guildless people are in the worst situation.

P.S. Oblivion FTW. That game never gets broken Without it I'd be as depreesed as the rest of the whiners here on GW Guru. Game-wise, that is.

Definately Starcraft 2. And maybe if one of the many MMO's comming out catches my interest, I'll look into that. But I'm not so much into computer games now as I used to be.

Im re-doing the whole SC campaign now to get familiar with the story/units again in preparation for SC2.

Oh Noes! The 'burbs!

I'm keeping an eye on Tabula Rasa and Starcraft 2. I'm also interested in the upcoming Spore, and, believe it or not, have moved back to Sims 2 in a small way. Apart from games, I've been far busier IRL lately, and simply haven't had as much time as I used to to play GW. My guild has dwindled recently, and the people who are left don't log on as much either.

My necro used to be my "go to" character, but since SR was initially changed, she's seen almost no action. Frankly, this game just isn't very much fun anymore.

I'm still waiting for Hellgate: London so I can possibly have something to play with my gf.

Looking for games after GW, I ended up playing EvE which she doesn't like and she's playing WoW which I hate.
I'm also doing all the (PS2) GTA "Stories" sequels.

Quake Wars sounds great so will be giving that a try too.

I’ve tried to leave GW, but always seem to come back.

Played & Finished

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion plus expansions
HL2 and all its counter parts
C&C 3
NWN2
Civilization 4 + Expansions
Hitman: Blood Money
Prey
RCT 3 + expansions
FEAR + expansion
Supreme Commander

I think I am done with FPS games they seem to have lost there rhythm of late. Even Bioshock looks like Doom 3 tacked on graphics, it does not warrant the scariness like Clive Barkers: Undying. Don’t even get me started on Halo 3; I just don’t care anymore after the last one. Even some of the MMO’s that I have gone through of late, including (I actually tried) WoW: The Burning Crusade, and still nothing. Of course I defiantly not feeling any SOE MMO’s games; I think they are starting to hit rock bottom.

I might be interested in the following in no particular order:

The new Alien RPG by Obsidian & Sega
Quake Wars: Enemy territory – The Wolfenstein version never let me down.
Indiana Jones: Lucasarts
The Witcher
Star Wars: Force Unleashed
GW: Eye of the North
Finally I would like to dedicate this space to Knight of the Old Republic 3; whenever you get done I will be waiting.

I can't say "quitting" is the right word. Of all the things people complain about and rage quit over you will not find another single MMO that does it better. In fact, unless you are a hardcore player you get screwed over MUCH worse - if they nerf your build in GW it takes a whole few minutes to change to another even if you have to go unlock skills. Other MMO's you sometimes flat out loose the character (no re-rolls) or it rolls back months and months of work as a casul/semi-hardcore player, let alone when work has me where I can do nothing more than casual. About 2-3 months after the release of each chapter the "I'm leaving" threads and discussions in game always start up.

Mostly I've done nearly everything I want to do and have nearly everything I want. I probably have about 3 or 4 more hours to max the sunspear and Lightbringer ranks, I think I lack capping around 100 skills for a full skill hunter title, and I finally crossed the 300k in the bank mark - but there is no incentive to have either title done before GW2 (because of the monument system) and that's probably enough money for whatever armor I want to purchase from GWEN. I figure even at the rate I'm currently playing that I should have three protector titles on top of the others.

I've been playing quite a bit of Oblivion and am looking at some dungeon crawlers (older ones - I'm cheap unless it is a really good game). I had, umm, "tested" Titan Quest some time ago and it's priced right now, Dungeon siege 2 is in the same class. When Starcraft 2 comes out that should be good enough to spring full price for. And finally I still fire up some of the older games I enjoyed in my younger days (the Wizardry series, Betrayal at Krondor, and the last three Ultima's). Hmm, it has also been a while since I played any of the DnD games - may bring one of them back out.

Edit: I'll probably have another go with GW with the PvE only skills - we will see tomorrow.

I'm not quite done yet. I still enjoy the company of the people I've been playing with for the last 2+ years, and GvG still satisfies my cravings for competition, to some extent. But I just log in to play with friends now, as the gameplay itself isn't novel anymore. PvE being a once through, that's fine, I'm used to that, but the PvP going stale is really sad. Every once in a while you play one of the other teams who still has a clue and cares, but 95% of your matches are against virtually identical teams using one of a small subset of the same limited gimmicks, with the same predictable gameplay - there's no dynamic strategy anymore, if they're any good it's the same as playing against a bot, otherwise you just roll over someone who can't even push the buttons in order. I've been jumped by a Shadow Prison 'sin a thousand times now. It's never any different, and I feel like I know their moves before they do a lot of the time. What's there to be excited about?

The other game options being presented aren't terribly exciting. The MMO scene is just refining the carrot-on-a-stick model, and while I can be a sucker for those free virtual slot machines just as anyone else can, they get so tediously boring once I figure out how the game works, and all that's left is putting in the hours of grinding out an avatar that I ultimately don't value at all. I'll likely pick up Starcraft 2, and Unreal Tournament 3 when they come out, but those aren't the kinds of games I can really dive into - all practice and subconscious learning, without the analysis and preparation that can keep me up at night. These days I'm a lot more interested in Settlers than anything on a computer screen, or in chewing through puzzles rather than mobs or players.

Where am I moving to? I'm not sure at all right now, and it's scary as much as liberating. There are a couple of Ridley/Dawkins inspired economics articles I've been working on that I'm not sure what I want to do with yet. Do I want to self-publish those on some sort of Sirlin-inspired vanity site? Should I try to get 'em published? Things have gotten ugly in the USA in the last few years and I'm finding myself drawn back into politics, as I was during college. Maybe it's time to start thinking of some solutions and getting those into practice? Or, the tech sector has largely recovered in those last years as well, maybe it's a good time to jump into industry and see what interesting projects people are working on these days. I guess the real answer is to get involved in everything and see what takes hold. Whatever ends up grabbing me, I know I'm stuck getting sucked into for the next 2-3 years.

My apologies for turning this into more of a self-absorbed blog entry than a straight reply - but I think it's relevant. For a lot of people, sure, Guild Wars was just a game and they'll be happy to move on to the next distraction. But if you're a bit more astute, take your dissatisfaction as a good reason for introspection, and hopefully find some clues as to what you're really after.

Peace,
-CxE

Gaming wise I'm waiting for Hellgate: London to release although I'll get GW:EN, but when I get completely bored with that I'll play HG:L heavily. Also getting Fury to fill PvP needs even though there will be PvP in HG:L, Fury seems more interesting.

Other games in consideration:
Exteel (fun game during closed beta)
Aion
Warhammer Online (check out the podcasts on info about the game here, exciting stuff)
SystemHolic Online Rohan (Yeah weird name)

Oh and I'll definitely be there when GW2 is in it's beta testing stage.

Now I just log on to GW to chat with my guild, as everything else has become dull. There are certain areas I have never been, like the UW or fighting Urgoz, and things I have never done, like GvG, or to a certain extent, HA, and I have little hope of doing any of those.
So, as for me, I'm back to being an MMO nomad until Overlord comes out, which I will obsess over for a week, then I'll become nomadic again. Although I do have those Warhammer, and Warmachine figures still waiting to be built.

Waiting for Spellborn to be released ... otherwise, hmm.

Problem is that guildwars spoiled me with convenient features that most MMO devs for some reason hate to implement (accessible map travel, respecing of builds, grinding for looks, not for stats, etc ....)

I have tried dozens of MMOs, they die fast for me when couple of 1st quests are kill 10 rats with glorious followup of bring me 10 rat tails. Other die when i realize these is nothign creative to do with skills/powers in there.

Most of MMOs have very shallow player development - because there is nothing to develop, you have working skillsets that everyone uses and you do not put brains into it at all. And character development is laughable - i dont covet increasing number besides my character name, nor do I enjoy stuff like raid grinds.

I hear ya on this. I can't even play grind-based games anymore. I tried picking up diablo 2 again, but got pissed when I couldn't change my build up about halfway through. I ended up cheating for max gear, because dammit, I don't want to do the same thing over and over, I want to make new builds and try them out. EVE was completely killed for me when I learned that dying carries an EXTREMELY heavy financial penalty, enough so that no one really ever risks dying.

Lately I've been poking around with my old school favorites, like BG2, and Fallout:Tactics. Maybe I'll join a couple more soccer leagues so I can work off my Guild Wars paunch a bit . Maybe I should start looking for a job, since I have to go out into the real world in about six months.....

While there is a lot of the usual post-rebalancing raging going on, lately there actually have been a lot of people quietly leaving the game. From this thread, it doesn't look like a hatred of the game, more like all the old players have suddenly decided "well, that's enough of that for now".

For me I play from time to time as I'm finding it harder and harder to want to play with the Loot Scaling and Soul Reaping nerf and all the others that focus on restricting the players rather than expanding their possibilities. Hard mode was very cheaply designed with little to no though put into it and well the PvE is lacking greatly and I've played games like Resident Evil 2 doing each scenario 50 times each every month for years.

For me, I'm waiting on the latest installments of the Resident Evil series and Final Fantasy series.

Sad but true. Though out of curiousity, I'm interested in you opinion on that. Why is it you think the game has degraded into mostly the same skill sets being used? Is it because of the poorly done and painfully slow 'balancing' that kills decent skills rather than bringing it in par with the rest? Is it the disregard to what the majority see wrong with the game and instead focus on the wrong parts or focus more on silly events that will be forgotten in a week? Is it the forced limitations that get imposed on PvE and PvP rather than the adding of more possiblities? Or is it something else in entirely?

wtf no Shadowrun???????

My previous online competitive game was Tribes 2. Shadowrun is a little similar to that and it's a lot of fun to pub. But due to the way they programmed it, I don't think dedicated clans will ever form. Even if they do I don't know that I want to go back to a game where twitch skill is at such a premium. It sucks to boot good friends from your clan because they don't twitch well enough. In the meantime I'm playing both Shadowrun and GW, though only for GvGs and nothing else.

GW PvP is the perfect junction between strategy and skill, in my opinion, and it sucks to see the competitive side dry up due to mismanagement. Yet they still bill it as the e-sport game of the fuchar and give prizes out for monthly tourneys. They should take the money for prizes and hire another game balancer since Izzy is clearly busy with GW2 and/or WoW.

But just this week i finally bought Dungeon Siege (it was dirt cheap and i really loved the "free" version so i thought i might as well support them) and NWN2. I loved NWN - was happily playing my druid so I made a new one i 2 - and boy does it feel different.
GW spoiled me with its pretty low system reqs, insanely good visuals, and the online thingy.
And the druid sucks there! The pets are ugly and it seems to me that Animal Empathy is gone - which was one of the reasons why i LOVED the druid in the first place.
So i guess I'll be sticking around a bit more - planning on making a new ele today.

I'm still playing guild wars, but now only with friends/guildies, and mainly for farming or doing elite missions with them.
I've already finished the three chapters with 4 characters, and nightfall with my parangon. I still have to play with my ele and dervish...but I begin to fell bored about doing the whole storyline again ^^

I've tried a lot of mmo's, and I really don't like all these kind of quests (kill 50 rabbits, then kill 100more etc etc). When you're used to the gameplay mechanic of guild wars, it's hard to play another mmo ^^

Right now I'm waiting for Bioshock and Crysis (well I'll certainly change several components of my computer to make it run correctly), while playing tomb raider anniversary (hey, it's a fun game )
