Whats the point of any discussion or poll, everyone knows gw2 is just gonna be a cheap imitation of WoW with pretty much only PvE and barely any PvP which no one will ever do. 90% of players of GW now are probably PvE-only or close to it so Anet only care about pleasing the majority, and dont listen to the PvP'ers minority and leave them in the dust.

I think I speak for all PvP'ers when I vote for 6.
Only good post of the thread so far. I vote 6 as well.

It has been proven throughout the history of video games that you can't pack 2 gametypes into 1 game without both sides suffering horribly. If you mix PvE and PvP, both will be worse than they should have been.

So I vote for 6...not buying. BUT...I will hear what other people have to say about the PvP of GW2 and if I hear good things I will try it. I just don't see that happening at the moment.

2) PvP + PvE, but without separation (=Open PvP).
In GW2 I'd like to actually see players create and destroy empires themselves, and battle over resources in PvE areas with PvP allowed, or otherwise I might have to change my answer to 6 by the time GW2 comes out.

how bout an option for it to be how it is now....duh that might have been a smart idea, besides that why not just make 2 separate entity's besides world pvp make the hardcore pvp of today have its own balance for the skills.

Also btw, for those of you who bash hero battles for how much I hate it sometimes i have a feeling that a majority of people who say here it sucks probably suck at it horribly and gave up. Other then that in Anet's eyes its regarded as high end pvp and you cannot argue that.

2 & 3, basically how it is now is fine with me. As long as the PvE and casual PvP are combined, and the hardcore is kept separate. Basically have hardcore, high level PvP be how it is now, except more options and a lot more balance. While PvE and casual PvP share the same world and characters. That way the hardcore can have their PvP sport, and everyone else gets their RPG (including some PvP).

" PVE"...all the way!!! Personally I "DON"T care for PvP!!! It's pretty obvious that the percentage of most players don't either. There must be a very good reason that there 's such a SMALL percentage of people that play PvP!

I also choose option 2.
Also I think you forgot to take into account that they said world pvp was going to be a type of pvp in GW2.

Anywhere but Guild Wars now, sadly.

It's a shame, this game had so much potential, but is ruined due to stale gameplay and lame updates

Option 3 for me.

Im a fan of PvE, casual PvP and hardcore PvP, and that is why I play Guild Wars. ANet had a very good idea by combining PvE and PvP, and though it is not perfect, for the most part it was tremendously succesful. I enjoy RA, TA and AB, as well as HA and GvG and to take out one of these things would ruin the game for me. To take out GvG would just be ridicoulus, it is Guild Wars is it not?

Of course, there will always be whiners and complainers with anything ANet does.

I find it funny how people choose option 6, yet still play Guild Wars and are on the Guild Wars forums. Don't you guys want to learn a little more about GW2 before judging whether or not you will buy it? Hell, we dont even know when the game will come out yet.

EDIT: One thing I would like to see removed in GW2 would be heroes.

GW2 will become more MMO style like GW1, the larger instances already suggest that.

GW failed as a PvP game. The huge majority of players is PvE, and those PvP players who not already left need to realize that they got next to nothing in all those years, while PvE got all the new content and stuff.

My theory - works better for MMOs than action-oriented whatever MMOs like GW:

Create a proper PvE world and add some basic pvp elements, and casual PvP comes from alone.

So I vote 1. Option 2 would give a skewed impression of what I want to say. I say a PvE world with PvP options creates enough PvP without needing own game modes and balancing. Interestingly it does not work half as good to balance around PvP and create a PvE world around it. One could assume it works better, but it does not.

GW2 will offer NOT MUCH to PvPers, face it. They better go and play games that are focused on competitive gameplay, it does not work in RPG-style MMO environments.

"Fury" is held in high regard, maybe this is the alternative to GW.

The makers of GW already shifted towards PvE, as did their fanbase. Now they need to get rid of this old parole "GW PvP is great" and call it a failed concept.

Either make a PvE game or a PvP game. Make a clear statement what GW2 is going to be. Please not something that pleases everyone and nobody at the same time.

It is easier to add pleasant "casual PvP" elements to a PvE world than to add "casual PvE" to a PvP balanced game.

If the poll is asking for what i want, and not what i think is fair, or just, or whathaveyou, i choose PVE and casual pvp. The team at a-net puts a fair amount of effort into STORY, and i really don't think that PvP has anything to do with story (maybe about as much story as a boxing match - but not quite as much as "professional wrestling").

I don't think it would be possible for me to agree more. If i understand what you are saying, it would be a world with mostly PvE, but in the world you might come across some "gladiator arena" type things. Possibly like that boxing thing that's hinted at for GWEN.

thats what I want. That's what guild wars seemed to be at first. A PvE storyline game with PvP available on the side. But then the tournaments started, and with it, excessive balance worries... PvP should be more of a mini-game. It should be what you do when you are in between PvE missions, waiting for allies to catch up, or when you only have a short time to play... PvE game with Consensual Duels and Scattered Arenas ftw.

Those group names really bring a wrong impression with them: it's as if someone farming over 20K faction on a dayly basis is just a casual player, while someone occasionally doing GvG twice a month is a hardcore player. The real meaning of casual and hardcore actually refers to the time and effort put into the job.
Casual and hardcore PvPers can be found in every PvP discipline.

To better prevent confusion, these 2 groups would be better named:
Unranked* PvP: Random Arena, Team Arena, Ft Aspenwood, Jade Quarry, Alliance Battle
Ranked* PvP: Guild Battle [GvG], Heroes' Ascent, Hero Battle

* Unranked and ranked were originally used by Arenanet themselves as differentiators for PvP, as I recall.

Thanks to everyone who voted. I changed "hardcore" and "casual" to "ranked" and "unranked" respectively as per Bazompora's suggestion.

First update on the polling results thus far.

Total votes: 65

1 - 11
2 - 29
3 - 15.5
4 - 7.5
5 - 0
6 - 2

If you said, "2 or 3" I awarded a half-vote to each of those choices. If you said something like, "4, but if they can't do it right, then 6", I took that as a whole vote for 4, since that's your preference.

I ran a similar poll at GWO and I'll post those results a little later.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say that the kind of video game player drawn to PvP plays games like SOCOM, HALO and Unreal Tournament. Fantasy gaming geeks tend to get themselves immersed in setting (graphics) and story and such. Not much more to PvP than kill them before they kill you (well no, there is some strategy to) but it's not epic. GuildWars pushes towards epic with large maps and stunning scenery.

I play for PvE. I've done PvP for fun when I didn't have enough time to invest in doing a quest or mission. To each their own. I'm sure there will be plenty of new PvP styled games out there for the PvP players who "leave" guildwars. Just hope they don't charge a monthly fee.

The truth of the matter is, the majority of the computer gaming population prefer playing with AI to other humans, in co-operative and competitive game modes. Guild Wars, as a game which tries to provide for both PvE and PvP, clearly shows this: PvE players massively outweigh PvP. And then look at how players took to the introduction of heroes.

People who mostly play PvE will largely prefer unranked/casual PvP, if they PvP at all, to ranked/hardcore PvP. Since PvE holds the majority, I think 2 is the best option. As long as the professional ranked PvP part of the game is maintained, there is a constant need for 'balancing', which in turn affects the other parts of the game (unless PvE and PvP become completely separate). Remove it, and there will be two positive results: 1. The game developers will be able to put more time and effort into other things, and 2. PvE players will be far happier.

QFT. Finish what you've started ANet, it's the road to greater success and you know it.

That said, I enjoy casual PvP greatly. In fact, I've liked hardcore PvP on the occasions that I've played it, but that doesn't stop me from saying it has to go.

To clarify, for the poll: option 2.

I can totally go with that. That would be exactly what I want, as long as the pvp isn't heavily unbalanced by gear.

Some of the crap I had to deal with in WoW PvP was ridiculous because of the gear. Because I never liked to go on those high level 40-man raids (I don't like dealing with that many idiots at one time), I was forced to have sub-par gear. Which in turn made my characters suck at pvp -- my only saving grace was that there were ways to up your critical chance. I took those upgrades, and I could hold my own, luckily.

HA is not only ruining all-PvP but its dragging PvE with it too.
