Are immature kids hurting the game?

All in all, funny thread. It sucks that people "make" the game miserable for otheres, but it also sucks that the others (not the ones from LOST) allow themselves to become miserable through the actions of others.
Seriously, has no one heard of 100% Responsibility. It really is amazing how many things actually are our responsibility. Not that I am saying that I have the responsibility to clean up the chat in GW, I don't. But people do have the responsibility, even if they shirk it, to act appropriately. In turn, I have the responsibility to turn off the chat/game when I can't handle the abuse any longer.
I have actually never been offended in the game. Even though I was called spineless when my character's name is clearly No Spine, oh well

Immature idiots making excessively obnoxious comments, kids or otherwise, hurt every currently popular online game. They pretty much come with the territory, unfortunately. When it gets particularly bad, feel free to report them, since truely obnoxious or offensive chat is against the rules.

As an older gamer myself -yes I was young but I was not a rude, filthy minded/mouth person either.
Obviously those that I get so so tired of listening to have had a bad upbringing or a good one which they disregard online.
Keep off local chat head for an instance as soon as possible that's all you can do.
Oh and some of the above smart mouth responses. I would guess you will grow up to be rude, unlikeable people.

29 here, by the by. Young people are statistically and biologically more likely to be immature - yes, you can toss up those rare examples of the opposite, but those are just anecdotes from people community-minded enough to read and post to forums, of any age. While you'll more often find older gamers playing different sorts of mindgames - guild politics, epeen contests - the kidlets are usually spamming up chat for attention and kicks. As I've stated elsewhere, it takes both kinds to ruin a game - but the kids' antics are more visible and prevalent.
Edit - I will also add, in ten years of online gaming, I've quit games exactly three times over people. All three times, they were adults playing headgames within guilds and communities (slander, lies, forum games, guild disruption, etc). Childish spam doesn't run me out of the internets.

I see people of all ages (but yes mostly around my age) swearing, making dirty comments and insulting others. I myself am in an incredibly vulgar guild (in really only in it for one of my friends) Ive known the guys for a while now and chat on vent with them. One of my guildies is quite sensitive and he got insulted once after the guild made some comments on him. I had to mediate between them, but in the end, all that insulting and swearing is done because it has replaced their vocabulary.
Words only mean what you think they mean.
To them," OMFG! Bill why didnt you use f*ckin EH? Thats the reason you are here"
Could also mean:
"Great Scot! Billy why didst thou not useth thine expel hexes? Tis the reason thou art hither."
Ok, really bad english but my point is that older some people may find what is said offensive because it means something different to them. Some people swear out of habit like my volleyball teacher. Soon it loses its meaning. But for those of us who keep its meaning, it does hurt.
Another observation. Insecure people will use the internet as a means of catharsis. (in the end catharsis doesnt work no matter now much the media tells you so) Because they think no one can stop them, they swear and shout insults trying to provoke people. In Freudian terms it's their Id poking through.
many of my guildies have been banned for this kind of behavior. In the end, they dont learn, they have multiple accounts, and they feel that they beat ANET by using another one. To sum up, insulting, swearing, and vulgar comments do hurt the game, (not just from kids) but you just have to deal with it. Hope that they will grow up to be a contribution to the society some day.

Apparently some of the same people who offend in game come to the forums. I tried to have a serious discussion and for the most part got some constructive answers. Thank you for those who can participate in thoughtful communication.
I'm sorry if my little joke offended, next time I will make an old people joke to balance things out.

If you dont want to deal with the immature, play a game with mods (who have banning power) and monthly fees.
The cheaper it is to harass and grief people, the more griefing that will occur... especially on the internet where there is potentially no penalty for doing so.
