A letter to Anet and everyone else: Guild Wars is dying in my eyes.

Man, if I had a dollar for every thread I've seen like this I'd be filthy rich.
OP, if it sucks that bad then quit, but spare us your goodbye thread.
(Twenty bucks says you buy GW:EN and play it.)

Dupers, modders, la la la.
You know, compared to some online games I have played, Anet pounced on the duping exploit and took a hard stance and banned the offenders, removing the exploit. If only some of the other online companies had taken as quick and hard a stance I might not have quit them.
Granted, you'd think their system somehow would have noted the creation of all the new items in some sort of log and kicked off a red flag. Were things an ideal world the crackdown would have been initiated by Anet before it got out of hand. Turns out Anet was tipped off to it by posts on the forums and then acted quickly. At least they acted. It really is more than I can say of some other companies. Anet deserves a little credit for that.
And modders? It honestly has very little effect on anyone. It doesnt actually change the mechanics of any part of the game and adds a bit of fun to a game nearing the end of its cycle. I like the fact that Anet gave the unofficial thumbs up to this as well. A little something extra to do and have fun with "in game."
Reality is, threads like this arise more from fatigue with the game, on some level. Reach that point and anyone can point to any one thing and find something to complain about - some nerf, some skill balance, etc etc. Mine for example is simply I have gotten bored with the level cap and max items. Its just become about skills and titles, which to me, is worse than grinding for levels and character improvement, as its grinding for really no meaning at all. Shrugs. It does not mean I am unhappy with Guild Wars per se. I had my fun and a lot of it I might add.

And the point of this thread is? Spare us the goodbye we couldn't care less. We post on this forum because most of us enjoy guild wars. Please leave the game as fast as you can and stop spoiling for those who want to enjoy it oh and stop insulting Arenanet; why don't you code us a new game mate!

I can't believe there is even an insinuation that modders are in the same pot as people who cheat. User created content is overwhelmingly a good thing. Apart from the fact that third party modding kept games like Half Life and Counter-Strike and Morrowind vastly popular for many years after they should have died a quiet death its not hard to see how the modding community can benefit ANET if they work out some kind of outlet to let modders do their thing in order to help make the game more enjoyable. Bi-yearly skinning/modelling contests where the top 3 entries can become limited festival drops like candy canes and so on. Just to name but one example.
Although perhaps not too relevant to Guild Wars per se, I've been toying with the idea of non combat professions in online games. An example would be to license a stripped down derivative of a product like paint shop pro or photoshop elements and integrate it into the game so that it is possible to make an earning within the game by creating and buying and selling pictures that players paint themselves for each other. I could definitely see myself playing a game like that for a long time - mainly doing the painting. OP - you like having some unique, rare item that nobody else has? You should get into modding or texture art or modelling because then you really can have something truly unique. That nobody else has. Your own custom skinned sword as a texture replacement for say, a Long Sword.
I have also felt for a long time that making games can be as much fun as, if not more fun than playing the games themselves. I do not see why the developers would want to prevent players from having that kind of fun in a game they also enjoy playing. There is great satisfaction in making your own mods.
Theres really only one thing to do when all is said and done. If you find yourself disliking the game you either:
1) Shut up and quit. Do something you actually enjoy doing.
or...
2) Keep on playing the game but come to the realisation that you are addicted to the things you hate.

I do not agree with the OP about the pve part. I think it's cool for ppl to mod their armor skin and whatever else.
But what the OP said about the pvp bit is true tho. I spent so much time learning the animation and the sound effect of many important skill e.g. aegis, NR, EoE, frenzy, res, so i can spot someone is using those skills and be a better pvp player. But now modders can see some1 is frenzing miles away or a monk is using aegis on the other side of the screen, that's just not fair. So if there's a better programmer i guess they can mod it so that an interrupt ranger can automatically use distracting shot when a monk uses aegis? Which turns GW into a RTS game.

NOTE
if you gave the OP a refund of the difference between the price now and when he bought it earlier he would be happy.
he had an earlier post in a different thread claiming fraud demanding a refund of the gold he paid as what he has now is not the same item he paid for.
stats are the same
no change in function
looks the same to me
you missed the sale so what?

Gimme Money Plzkthx
Guildwars IS dieing, but the only reason correctly listed in this thread is the recent item duping, and that really didn't have that much effect as the economy is already long dead from lootscaling and hard mode.

In comes dupe 100K +55E ish to about 20 to 50K. That's what. Gaile stated herself that people buying 1 or 2 of these din't involve getting a ban. So this fair to the players who worked for their ambraces how? I know the prices are luckily back to a about normal but still.
While pugging through Gwen.
player a: Nice torment Shield
player b: Yeah took me quit a while to get the money (gems) to get it
player c: Quote Nelson: ha HA. Got a shield and a sword for 50K
I know people shouldn't whine about it because happened is happened, still it's not really cool

i think that is the most important part.
the reason for that is Anet banned the dupers as well as their stacks of duped items.
they literally followed the stacks of duped items banning and locking the duped stacks as well
a very small increase actually got out in small numbers probably less than from a double drop weekend.
i missed getting in on the great trader reset when they made prices worldwide and not rolled back by literally less than 15 minutes but thems the breaks
would i have bought every ecto/black/rare mat i could?
sure i would have and i had 600+plat in storage on a mule to do it.
i missed it and others got rich.
it didnt spoil my fun though

When I left 1.5 years ago I merched 2 denravi swords . The one remaining one I had was customised long ago. I came back last month with 2 superior absorptions and a bunch of other superior runes. Back when I left super absorps were 100k at the trader. When I returned they were 210g. What can I say? You win some. You lose some. Theres no point getting hung up about it and I dont begrudge anyone their right to feel like they got a good deal. I felt like I got a good deal back in the day when I got my denravi sword. Its worthless now but who cares? I customised it anyway and what else would I do with the money? Horde it? Ebay it and get promptly banned? Spend it on pointless rare skinned items that work just as good as collector items?
If you get hung up so bad over how much your toys are worth, how do you ever get around to enjoying the game? Or is your enjoyment of the game solely comprised of feeling loads better about the stuff you've got than everyone else?

As soon as you're born, you start dying,
So you might as well have a good time.

To be Honest i dont see HOW Guild Wars is diying What is there to die in the first place
Duplication stopped People banned its a blow but not a fatal 1 i dont think its possible to get bored unless you play 24/7 which this game is not meant. For weekend somehting new< Allience battles always diferent same maps DIFFERENT people there is no way to predict what that person will do. And then Hero battles there ya go another load of time to spend. Go se the weakness of your build in the Augury Rock mission instead of taking some 1 elses and passing it. Create more builds with different weapons. I dont see you die from that. Go 1 vs 1 try diferent build for gods sake, boom another month of gametime to perfect the build, make mini games, game is only as good as YOU make it.
For example for entire 3 month my guild was in both physical and oral War with another guild 3 month thast 90 days thast at least 200 hours just of Speach and GvG righ there.
Its imposible to get bored there is always something to do always If you dont know all aspects of the game, if you have no imaginative force to make the game experince to the fullest and make some of your own minigames. Form a guild that fits you, create YOUR BUILDS not ASK OTHERS for it . Just by painitng your armors diferent colous of dyes themself take time to perfect im not even starting of setting goals for yourself ingame. And to do all of this you dont have to be online for 24 hours a day 7 days a week 364 days a year, 2 hours is enaugh 1.5 hours is enaugh too.
The only reason Guild Wars can "die" in near fuiture is YOU and your Ignorance to all aspects of the game
Thank you

Items worth less over an extended time period makes sense. Items worthless because somebody duped them, and needed the quick sale of 10 to 20K not that cool.
As said the tormented weapons are back up to price worth about 10Ecto's less then before the dupe. I'm fine with all that. I'm not fine how ever that i had to farm for an extend of time to get gems / money to pay for an item, what another person have had the oppertunity to buy at 5% of the original price.
I think it was still in the best option to do a rollback to where the dupe thread started. (Which would be around 6 to 10 hours when i posted it in the original thread). Roll back to when dupers had still a lot of stacks. Freeze game. Find all the big stacks of ambraces, auto ban. None of these cheap ambraces would have polluted the market, because all the dupers would have them again.
Oh well GG to the people getting an ambrace on the cheap, and not being banned for it

you are talking of erasing literally over a million cumulative player hours for that?
it is not going to happen just to restore the hurt epeen of a few players being a tiny bit less elite.

No more *unique* armors or items. You can have anything you want!
I've been saving for a long time to get myself a Tormented shield. Part of the appeal was that once I would get it, there would still be about 70% of GW players that don't have it. Well lucky me.. In between dupers and modders that's all negated now. |
What makes games like this fun is being the Hero who slays the Demon/Dragon/Villain. What makes games like this fun is decent art and role play while you do it. What destroys fun in games like this is eternal grind as if you are some kind of machine with no imagination, no family, no chores, no job, etc. If grind is all it is about then grind away on an assembly line and make money instead of points.
The amount of grind that exists is something I resent and detest. Twenty Million Points (2 Million Kills that count for normal players) for Faction Titles is absolutely ridiculous. Three thousand three hundred and thirtyfour kills plus 30 to 50 ecto to buy One thing is ridiculous. If the point to GW is to teach people they cannot express themselves as they wish but must be subjugated to the whims of others then they need not bother - that game was already invented by God and it is called life.

If I could mod skins right now, I can see myself quickly getting bored with this game. I'm perfectly aware it's just on the client side, but that is all I really need. After getting myself every rare skin and playing around with them, there's hardly anything left aside from me PvPing, since I beat all of PvE. Nothing to strive for. Nothing to desire. |
Quote:
Someone might say - No one is MAKING you mod stuff. Well when something is there, one cant help but try it. The very idea of me playing casually, while others are turning this game inside out makes me sick. Not because I cant to the same, but because of the "fact" itself. |
What I do mind is the excessive grind to get anything I would want. I spend most of the game playing with things that I dont want or that are substitutes for something I would rather have. I will never be able to afford what I want, and I do resent that. Many times the only reason I use what I do is because it allows me to assist and support others. Is the one second "Great I finally found something decent" worth the 1,000 hours of waiting for it? No it isn't. It does not give me a feeling of good work, achievement, nothing. It is a random freaking accident in the middle of a grind fest aimed at preventing me from getting what I want to express my characters in the persona I can see for them.
Quote:
Why would I even want to buy GWEN now? I wanted it so much.. Partially because of the new cool items, and skins. But now... What is left? Just new quests and games? Forget that... All that was cool when together with the rest. By itself, it's not enough. |
Quote:
The downfall of this game already begun when purple items became worthless and golds became so common some were/are worth 3-5k. Why are purples even still in the game I ask you? Especially the noninscriptable ones? |
Class Primary - super is -75 Health.
Class Primary - major is -35 Health.
Class Primary - minor is - 0 Health.
Class Secondary - super -100 Health.
Class Secondary - major is -60 Health.
Class Secondary - minor is -20 Health.
Then the value of purple runes would change. When I started playing 22 months ago, purples were of no value. Golds were of little to no value. If it wasn't green, IDS, or Chaos Axe then no one wanted it for more than a k. Although Celestial Sigils and Super of Absorption were usually over 75k if not near 100k.
Quote:
I know many will say: You don't like what's going on? To hell with ye! Well fine... I'll go pay another game then, instead of GW. And to think that GW was THE ONLY game I was playing and was going to play for a long time to come... |

|
Your attack getting blocked half of the time is ALREADY too late, what i mean is to interrupt the aegis BEFORE it goes off so your attacks dont get blocked. As an interrupt ranger you are not supposed to lock on one target all the time (depends on the build) you are supposed to read the game and interrupt the important skill. The point of knowing the animation is so that you can lock on one target while still know what another character is doing.
With the sound on you can tell someone is behind you (not in your screen) using QZ. I bet you don't know that's a special sound effect for soul barb when it twiggers, so you know when the ghostly hero/guild lord/archer/knight has soul barb on.
And therefore being able to mod the animation makes it not fair.
