World of Warcraft vs Guild Wars

They're different. I'll say that.
I've played both, although I have a month of GW then a month of WoW.
Wow is a slow progressing game, you work your way up levels slowly gathering items and skills. You really need a good group of friends to really enjoy it, but it's great fun when you get a group group and achieve legendary things! On the other hand you often get into situations where you simply cannot win (like a level 1 taking on glint on their own) because you've got to level up. It's not so skill based as GW but more time based. Luckily you'll never run out of anything to do.
I'd say get a WoW trial and play it. If you like the first 10 levels then you'll like the rest of the game. Trust me
I'd say get a trial of wow and play if.

I played WoW for a month, and quitted because IMO it took way too long to level up. Up to 5 days to get from level 25 to 26, I can't even imagine 60+
That's the main reason I stick with Guild Wars.

It will be interesting to see this argument in one or two years when WoW has 1-2 more expansions and GW2 is out.
I'm curious to see if GW2 will be able to trump WoW in both PvE and PvP content or what direction it will take exactly (maybe more of a DAoC approach). Course there's always they chance that a new Blizzard MMO will be announced as well but I only see this argument heating up as Anet and Blizzard perfect their games and strengthen each of thier weaknesses

guild wars pvp sucks (or it did when i quit)
wow will definately take up more time, but only really if you raid and do endgame pve. if you just pvp in wow you can moderate it very easily.
wow > guild wars, no question about it

I would stay with GW, and concentrate on yer grades young man!
And save yer money for boooooze.

since you bought a Mac, IMHO you should support Blizzard for making a cross-platform game.
ArenaNet seems like it doesn't want to put any effort in cross-os support, and prefer to keep developing in that closed DirectX shit, helping M$ to preserve their monopoly.

While I could go into a large, long rant about how WoW is so mediocre to Guild Wars I won't. Instead, I'll say a word and some sentences.
Word: Mesmer.
Sentences: Monk's take another step from the original "lul hael me plzz" format seen in many similar MMO's / RPG's. You get a choice to protect your target, and escape from the chance that your party member may die. And you get to heal as well! Priest in WoW is just "lol clik "greeter hael wen he r take dmg!!!", which is EXTREMELY boring, and stupid.
And don't even get me started into the gear = effectiveness debate.

Even tho I "hate" WoW, I would go with that.. Much more to do.. But there is a lot of grinding and bad graphics.. I don't know if EotN can save GW for me, but you should buy that first before you make a decision.. (sorry, bad English)

I already explained this in another thread, and other issue's but I will just say this in some easy steps. I'm not going to go at it, like I did in the other thread. So yeah.
1. 9 million is a whole wide world of players
2. You are in regions. Europe, US, Asia ect, so its broken down
3. The population is further broken down into servers. U.S region is broken into 100+ servers
4. You got BOT as well like you mentioned

IS Wows PVP worth the grind to get good pvp gear and the 15 dollars a month to use it? Not imo but as said play both see what you think.

Whatever you do, don't play on one of those PvP-gimped servers. Play on the real-world PvP servers. The most fun I had on there was when the level grind was broken up by people trying to gank me. Hunter and shaman pwnt by my lower-level pally! Ill never play WoW again though.

Back on question: If you love good PvP then there is no better than Guild Wars. But PvE in WoW is bigger, but that doesnt make it better. You see, Guild Wars has more intresting quests. It is not like: Kill tan rats and bring their tails or something in WoW. Plus EotN is coming out soon and it will provide you some great fun in PvE. So many new quests, armors and weapons. Plus you are student, so GW should be your choice. Why? Guild Wars is friendly to casual players plus it has no monthly fee.
Someone that played WoW more than me (i played 3 months and then i tried GW) should give you some good advices about WoW advantages.

The Wand is a lv. 70 green, and the only "upgrade" (actually a sidegrade) is a lv. 67 Blue. Color isn't everything.
The only update to that trinket requires 41 Heroic Badges. Right. It's kinda impossible to get a PuG since there's a tank and healer shortage (one of the things that I like GW is the Henchman system...)

More $$$ to just do content within the game, with the pay per month as well.

But jackie was likely countering the "all Priests do is spam one heal." Healing is actually quite difficult during the 4-6 simotaneous enemy pulls in the WoW instance end-game and on boss fights where bosses can kill casters in one hit (imagine Underworld without Protective Spirit)

WoW has lots of things you will enjoy, and others you will loathe. These skill updates and class balances you're used to in guild wars. If a class is broken you can expect blizzard to fix it, but they will fix it in 4 months maybe more. The best part is that they don't actually fix the problem they just make a few bogus changes and call it fixed.
The game is all real time, except for the 5man, 10man, 25man, and 40man instances. Most of your item upgrades will come from these instances and you're required to do them multiple times to get the drops you want.
Your items make who your character is, if you have bad items you will be labeled as a bad player, you won't be able to beat anyone with the higher end items, so expect to put a lot of work into your character.
Leveling is not so much of a problem as people make it out to be, with putting in about 4 hours a day of your time you can level to 70 in about 3 months, so I wouldn't really worry about this.
If you're playing on a pvp server you will soon learn that ganks happen and camps happen. I've been camped by people for over an hour while leveling the factions like to grief each other to no end.
As someone who played in a high end content raiding guild I can tell you that you will be mediocre in WoW unless you put a lot of time into it. The best gear you can get comes from raids. You can also pick up the arena and pvp sets which are good too but will take you a very long time to get. You can expect to put four hours or more into raiding every night, the game becomes monotonous and starts to feel more like a job then a game. Sure it can be fun it has its strong points and also its weak points but my advice to you is unless you're ready to put in a lot of time into WoW at the end of the day you will just feel no sense of accomplishment.
If you have any questions about what to expect in WoW I'll gladly answer them to help make your decision, I know how it feels to be caught in between these two games.
Might as well throw in my armory: http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Mug'thol&n=Sakray
I respec'd into ret from holy before I quit and my ret gear isn't that great but still. :P

Sorry for going off-topic:
Yeah, I meant my previous post as a counter.
I'm just fed up with this exaggeration ''WoW = Grind, Most of the quests = kill x number of y objects, players divided into small servers thus making communication difficult'' etc.
People not willing to read reviews, wowwiki, fanforums, watch youtube videos about the game or actually play it past the tutorial areas? I've seen quite shallow negative comments about WoW so far.
I'm not trying to be Blizzard fan here but it seems bit like some are seeing red-light whenever WoW is mentioned, guess you can expect that in GW Forum but still, keeping things in realistic proportions would be nice.
Back on topic:
Choose the one that is most fun to play. I'm a student, play both games and still have time for work, friends & hobbies. You can really play WoW casually as well.

I have played LOTRO about one month and somewhere nearly level 34 it became monster grinding because so many quests needed grouping to be done. What makes Guild Wars so awesome that it is not like WoW/LOTRO game where players just play mainly for leveling and then quit when get max level and got own epic set.

I played GW trough all three campaigns and switched to WoW in January. Been played WoW every since. I have 1 Lvl 70 and a few Alts. It is a really fun PvE game but last night I played GW because I plan on playing GWEN. Boy I really missed this game. It took me some time to re adjust but once I did I remember why I loved this game. Now I'm not giving up WoW all together but I will playing GW again. Now just to build my guild up again lol.
Both games have a lot to offer. I just can't wait till GW2 comes and hopefully get the best of both worlds and not pay monthly for it.

LOL HI DREAMRUNNER!
And that means no GMs, no Auction Houses, no monthly content....No lots of stuff.
...So, your guild won't let you roll on loot, or something? Find another guild?
Then get into that arena and work your ass off, son! Find a SP and go pwnface. And there're plenty o' upgrades to go for, not sure what you're talkin' bout.
Why're you looking for PUGs? PUGs = formula to disaster. Just like in GW, if you want to progress through the game, you'll need reliable people to do so. PUGs are not reliable.
And keep in mind, the reason there *are* henchmen in the game is because the game can't be soloed. You need party members for every area, and there are just not enough real people for that. I'm sure if the explorable areas were able to be soloed, that there wouldn't be any henchmen or heroes.
Shadow Priests are awesome in 2v2 with a Warlock, and still very solid in instances. Moreso in raids.

Hmm I think has been the most mature Guild Wars vs WoW thread so far. However sadly that isn't saying much.
Personally I think the best arguement so far is that WoW = PvE and Guild Wars = PvP because well when my guildies don't have enough for GvG they often play Wow. However as soon as we get 8 on vent we automatically get a GvG set up.

It's good to see people not slagging off WoW as much here. There's nothing wrong with disliking it but doing so just because you play GW is pretty stupid. I have a feeling these people are the same ones that ally themselves with a particular console and flame the rest, while the grownups just go out and buy all of them.
Just because I play GW doesn't mean I have to turn in my Blizzard fanboy card.

Solas
tbh GW is better once you WoW is alot of fun until you hit around lv.38 then it is constant grinding with the odd quests that help.
you have amybe 3 months to get to lv.70 until the game begins and then another 2 months roughly to get to lv.80 (next exp.)
so around 5 months to get a char lv.80, then start grinding for your armour.
but thb gw missions takea around 30 min avg. instances take around 2-3 hours.
in WoW there always at least 1.30 min so you need a proper party.

Nope. What you kill by yourself is what you get. Some people solo low-level instances for massive loot. |
and you can gather money by opening chests and farming goldies fdss and such
in gw: what you kill by yourself is whaty you get. but you dont get as much as in team and in team you get 1/8 so its fair (its still easy to make money)
and zinger do u enjoy saying shit things to gw in a gw fanforum? go play wow and pay much money for it (and yes im your mother)

In term of PVE Gameplay and fun, WoW > GW. But GW has its good points too. If you prefer a game that you can play at your own time, GW is the game to go. It is like many said already, awfully casual. But if you are the type that want to talk to people and prefer the social aspect of MMO over gameplay, then WoW is the better choice, but that's also where you will get sucked in. e.g Just to help a buddy, you will spend a bit more time in the game and boom! You've just spent more time than you ever planned to already.
And about PvP, I would not recommend any of those 2 games for PvP. I can tell you that I have been playing GW PvP a lot, and tell you that it gets awfully stale after a while. I'd suggest another game like Gears of war or a DoD , or even DoTA for PvP fun TBH. Faster and much more fun IMO. But that's only my preference.
Try the Preview weekend for GWEN, then decide for yourself which one is better suited for you, and your time-table.

Yes the animation is a bit "cartoonish" but once you start playing you see past it.
Ridiculous enemies? nah raids are huge fun, the wait however isn't.
Grind - yea there is grind, but as WoW's 9million subscriptions points out..people like grind. I liked the level cap also. I'm a 1 char kind of person. I can't roll out char after char like some people. WoW let me play one char and not get bored doing it.
Meh anyway..I reinstalled EVE..there goes my free time just waiting for some skills to level then I'm good to go.

Nay. They are there just because Blizzard and because many others are there.
Once they start palying, the feel like they can't leave.
You can leave GW for ages and come back later and you'll still love this. And you'll need to pay no fines.
