Chromatic Drakes

To put it lightly.... and shortly.... they are overpowered.
I mean... they're only level 20 and yet they're easily more dangerous than a group of level 28 Torment Creatures.
I can't even get near them without getting splashed with every kind of elemental damage imaginable, knocked down by Mind Blast, pinned in place by Mind Freeze and then wailed to death with Sliver Armor and Fire Storm.
A group of 6 of them just wiped out my entire herohench party (same party I went through the whole of Nightfall with, sans trouble) without even breaking sweat.....
... And yet all the other creatures in the Battledepths are a walk in the park!
I'm strongly recommending to A-Net that the creatures be made more balanced.... as things are rather ridiculous as is.
[On the other hand, I don't recall encountering any Enchant removal in there (though I could be wrong)... Maybe this is a job for a 55 Monk, if she can avoid the knockdowns.]

hmm, I really havent had much trouble against those guys (except when they use sliver armor and insta-pwn me...I play warrior >.> )
Edit: I DO have some trouble against those giants (forget their name). They must have some crazy defense. -_-

my guess is that if the second poster is right, them using sliver armor is wiping out your party. I'm not there so I don't know, but check that and if that's the case then a new strategy would be required. it's probably payback for all the e/a and a/e's using sliver to solo bosses lol...
Sasuke The Betrayer
I really have no idea what you're talking about @ Op. I haven't been having problems, but those giants with huge staves/maces and stuff.... God... they have ALOT of damage ALOT of health ALOT of defense. Jesus -_-.
Stormlord Alex
To be honest?
None of the enemies I've encountered in GW:EN have been at all challenging.
The Drakes I just mop the floor with, using a lot of Savannah Heat (pretty much... my strategy for everything and anything)
I actually quite like them, the element-changing thing is fairly interesting.
Best advice? Either kill 'em fast with mass AoE, or use a lot of Protection Prayers.

Fair enough. I suppose if you're an elementalist yourself with superior spells then it shouldn't be a problem to deal with them. Can't say the same for my 2 elementalist heroes and 2 elementalist henchies though. They manage just fine to beat a team of nine of the drakes.... then wipe on a team of 6. ¬_¬
My character that I happen to be in the Far Shiverpeaks right now with is an Assassin however.... and those drakes are NOT assassin-friendly. I can't particularly imagine that most other classes would be too fond of them either though. As I said... they can switch between elementalisms at will, cause knockdown, reduce speed by 90%, set us on fire, make themselves nigh-on invincible .... and then of course there is Sliver Armor....
Getting near them is suicide.
I haven't even come across the giants yet.... but if they happen to be melee fighters then I doubt I'll have any problem at all with them. I have the build that can solo Shiro on my side.

Ok....
NOW I have seen the giants...
And they're really no trouble at all.
Any of them.
They're nothing compared to the Chromatic Drakes.... at least for me. o_0;
I mean they die a bit slowly... but they definitely do die, and without heaps of elemental damage, knockdowns and speed reductions.
[Sorry for the double-post but I figured someone else would have posted here inbetween. Guess I was wrong.]

I think they can be handle like shiroken elementalist. KD them and have a Shatter enchantment.
The problem is heores and hench man AI doesn't not aganist AoE or any return damage stuff and end up killing them self a lot.

You don't think these are overpowered? A mob of 3 of these attacked a mob of 3 Destroyers...... LEVEL 28 DESTROYERS and won! They may be defeatable in NM... but how the hell do you think they'll be in HM? A full blast of Mind Freeze, Mind Burn, Mind Shock, throw in some Firestorm, Incendiary Bonds and Arc Lightning... that would wipe an entire team with ease.
LONGA, they have 4 choices of elites, thats the main problem. Mind Freeze, Shock and Burn. And as if that isn't enough, they get Obsidian Flesh! They can have up at any 1 time Obsidian Flesh, Frigid Armour and Stoneflesh Aura. They should have 1 elite... an Energy Storage based elite. For example... Elemental Attunement! Why does a foe that can change between all 4 elements not have that and somehow never runs out of energy?

Everyone cries "nerf nerf nerf" when their cookie cutter build won't cut the mustard.
It's called evolution. Change your bar, go back out there, and "pwn some face". Period.

I can see mind shock, mind freeze a trouble some stuff.Maybe you can Put a spell breaker on your tank on your tank and aggro them first. They will likely to spam the spell on your tank.Ai arn't smart enough to deal with exhausting spell.
I used this trick in Domain of Fear(The one before the tone down) and work grate.
Unless like Evilsod said enemy cheat with energy.

How exactly do you suggest you counter eles that can block physical attacks, gain 40 armour, gain lots of damage reduction, become immune to spells and load up with a variety of elemental spells, along with ones that cause blind and 'miss'. Well obviously you can... but how exactly do you intend to combat everything else that you come across effectively? You can't even Power Block them
Incandecree
Interrupts.
I used a smite/interrupt build and I usually bring a mesmer. It used to be Norgu but I have switched to Gwen. I have no problem shutting most of it down. Yes they hit hard at the start.

i've only met them once, and i managed to beat them. granted, i was under the spirit of the raven at the time, which made me mostly invincible.
i also have gwen loaded with interrupts and warmonger's weapon/splinter weapon (and shatter enchant. that one really hurts). that with me + 3 melee heros/henchies, i just waltz in and lay down the big hurt.

Choking Gas ranger?
Arkantos
PvE monsters...overpowered?! I've never heard that before.
Sasuke The Betrayer
TBh, the only nerf I want is the Destroyers xD. I was battling a boss in the dungeon... omfg... he has like 250 armor does 250 damage and has 2500 health. Lol. Cracked Armor and I still did 4 damage to him on my normal attack. (Warrior here)
tuna-fish_sushi
I also believe they are overpowered I saw one go use obsidiand flesh + stoneflesh + ward of melee add in Mind Shock + Mind Freeze + Mind Burn +Firestorm
Although they are takin out pretty fast and theres no way you can interrupt a group of 6 of them.
Also, Never heard of Overpowered Monsters look at argo in the boreas seabed mission Instant casting Meteor shower and Double the damage = 300 damage Meteor show + 400 damage Fireball.
That is in Normal Mode, wouldnt dare fight him in hard.

Hexum
Didn't have any problems with the drakes at all. But then again I had 3 protection monks with me.
vergerefosh
They are quite powerful. I find myself struggling to beat them, and with 60% DP, not fun. Though those big things are too
Ic Zero
IMO the final boss in Sepulchre of Dragrimmar is overpowered, my hench team keeps getting pwned by his ice collapse thing, i must've spent like 45 mins trying kill him with 60 dp, lucky i brought PS on ogden so i can tank his deep freeze and ice spikes, and all i got from the chest after beating him was a req12 wooden buckler
Arkantos
They're difficult, but I don't see a problem with that. When GWEN is released we'll have access to all the PvE only skills, which will really help.
Evilsod
I do interrupt them... sadly i can't interrupt priority skills like Stoneflesh or Obsidian Flesh ON SIX OF THEM! Contrary to popular believe among the idiots who just read a skill list instead of thinking of realistic counters, choking gas doesn't have a range of Area. I'm not having that many problems with them... but this isn't Hard Mode. And in Hard Mode they are going to be ridiculously overpowered when they can spam extremely long snares, high damage AoE, knockdowns and put a large amount of defence up. Theres a significant difference between hard and just plain overpowered, remember DoA?
natuxatu
Never had a problem with the Chromatic Drakes.. everything seems fine.. they aren't exactly EASY but that's a good thing. They are beatable... and not how DoA was orginally (was that ever nerfed?) But yeah no problem.. I would agree with the person who said the giants are more difficult.. especially the group of lvl 28 in the Burrow dungeon.. at least they where for me and my henchies all with 60dp
Wings of Fury
Havent seen these 'drakes'yet i think but i believe you can kill just about anything with aggro control ... its pretty much an observation how the ai reacts when you aggro them and force them to hang onto a formation. From there on you can spike or defend with enchants, wards, additional armour, damage reducement and so on and so on ... so basicly in pve nothing is overpowered
Astro Pubes
I've had no problems with them what so ever.
Broad Head Arrow + Apply Poison + Epidemic
and also Bring Zho (Interupt Henchman)
As well as a Minion Master, just shut one or two down and there's no problems at all.
So far from everything that I've seen in the preview nothing's over powered and I've been Hero/Henching the entire preview using my basic Vanquishing team build and have pretty much steam rolled everything without any problems.
BTW, the heroes I run are a Prot Monk, Spiteful Spirit Necro w/ Aegis and Holy Veil and a MM w/ Aegis and Holy Veil have yet to have any problems.

When you guys say they're hard, how big are the groups you're fighting?

I think you need to chill out a bit. No need to call people idiots for making suggestions. Maybe you should push off from the keyboard for a bit and get some air?
Fr_3_aK
QQ less please, there's nothing wrong with the difficulty of EOTN PVE, you just need to L2P.
You're spoilt by the piss weak PVE in all other campaigns.
Get over it and L2P as good as you QQ.

i play as a ss necro in gwen...they arent a problem, so far i cleared 3 dungeons and all the quests, and my team never got killed once. even that i said to some friends that they should increase monster lvl a bit so we can get better loot and for the love of god fix the chest problem, where 95% of the time purple items drop

Spread out so the area effect spells don't whip the entire party.
Concentrate on one at a time.
Bring interrupt skills and attack more than one at a time with them. (yes, I know - somewhat contradictory
Called judgement call.

I didn't even notice these guys doing much of anything. I guess in retrospect my skills weren't doing full damage, but everything dies in about 3 seconds anyway to splinter weapon. If you're really hurting, I guess broadhead arrow/epidemic is the way to go.
Destroyers can be nasty if you're not ready for them, but they have very little self defense, so they pop pretty quickly if you focus fire.
I'd have to say the mandragors are the most irritating enemy thus far. They don't kill you, but after you wipe the mob you have to stand around and wait for the 30 conditions on everyone to wear off.

These guys are bad. Only time I had trouble was when running by them to a door and getting mind freezed. They on ocassion spike, but never too badly. Fun group IMO. I am digging the mobs so far, as the way they work together. Well outside the Destroyers. But they tend to just come in waves, so that is cool.
As for Hard Mode, this is all HIGH LEVEl content. It is supposed to be challenging on normal, and HARD on hard. As for Argo BHA works wonders against him. If he gets the MS off, move out of it. Not that hard.
He pwns me with his noob build in the Norn tournament though. Damn E/D RA loser.
Mandragors I think are awesome, as I love their combo. They are nothing though compared to the Dyders. Degen and FoC hurts a lot.

Oh? did I tell you? They didnt have any other damage skill except Glowing Gaze... And... the Destroyers are immune to burning so it was hell

I loved fighting those guys. I really enjoyed facing a mob for the first time in ages. They aren't that hard to fight, just very tough. They feel like fighting 6 eles (which has 'never' been easy). It was funny watching them 'destroy' the Destroyers, but then they are effectively feel like fighting 6 foes instead of 3 and the Destroyers are kinda wuss-like if you ask me (I'll reserve my judgement till I face 8+ mobs though).
I ran a basic build. Earth ele using the lovely over-poweredness of Energy Blast + Magnetic Surge as my main damage (use these all you can, I feel the nerf-bat sizing them up), Unsteady+Eruption and GoI + GoLE and a random test slot.
An LoD/Prot Tahlkora (the same build I use on monk), and a B. Light Dunkoro with a few of the new monk spells to test out. A Koss running Crip Slash (I don't even know if bleeding works on em) and Knee Cutter with some other crap. Then full hench (Herta is much better now she uses Magnetic Surge + Melee ward btw). Didn't even use the SS/Enfeeble necro I used to use in Hard Mode.
I have had to repeat nothing so far. Gwen is very enjoyable and I'm really liking the mobs this time around...
EDIT: I love the fact that dull as fuh' SF doesn't work on these guys (Destroyers). GG Anet ^_^...

Different people have different issues apparently.
No matter what though, no single monster is supposed to be good at everything, and for what it is worth those Chromatic Drakes ARE. That is why there don't need to be any more different types.
The giants could be souped up to level 30 for all I care.... but the chromatic drakes need both a level or so up.... and a lot less skills. Make 'em more like the Graven Monoliths in Nightfall. That'd do nicely.
The point here is that Arena-Net like cheating their enemies up.... and I'd just about got used to them consistantly doing it by level... but now we're getting wailed on by level 20 monsters with 4 Elites and maxed points in no less than 4 attributes.
It is demeaning.
If I'm going to be wiped out by a bunch of drakes, I'd at least consider it justifiable to make their level indicate their threat-level.

I didn't have a problem with him but then again Teinai's Heat, Searing Heat and Meteor Shower x2 = dead mob ;P.
I went in to the Frost Maw dungeon and this dungeon has alot of them and I didn't have a single problem and I was using the cookie cutter sp assassin build to see if it was possible. With 2 monks 4 eles a minion master and myself a sin I finished it at 34% dp at 40 something minutes.
