Well after a brake of around 2-3weeks from gw due to vacations i returned and started playing again. Dunno y but it came to me to go buy a tormented shield. So i go to kamadan eu2 and ask at local chat what's the price range of ambrace of truth atm. Next thing i know a guy pm's me and starts swearing at my mom, like "stick your *** up ya mum". I replied that im gonne report him without swearing or anything and he said "do you *** your mommy" so i asked a friend what i must do. He said take screenshots of the event the timezone and send an email to anet. Well thats what i did, i went to the support site and searched what i must do to report someone. I think it said you needed a screenshot, time+timezone, location. So i sent an email with every single detail even my char name at that time etc etc. The next day anet replies that they gonne forward the ticket: "we are transferring your ticket to our in-game/technical support staff who will make contact as soon as possible." CONTANT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Thats about 3days for anet without any contant until my ticket expires bc if i dont reply within 72hours my ticket expires. Anyways i replied to anet asking what's going on and why noone contacted me. The answer was that they Thank me (Wouhou!) for reporting. Well guess what the guy that i reported who kept swearing without any reason is still playing...I even pm'ed 1.5week after the incident and he was laughing.

p.s. i think next time i should be the one using vulgar language, and scamming since support team is on vacations or something.

Reporting does work with proper proof. depending on the violation the player only gets a mark on their account and marks can be removed after a time.
if anet banned for everything, no one would play it. the cost wouldnt be worth the risk.
also if you use profanity and start scamming, you are no better than they are and deserve their fate.
i would like to offer my understanding on this issue, i support the BanHammer and Reporting. People who dont wanna follow the rules shouldnt be allowed to play. its unfair to those of us who do follow the rules.
i would suggest Not trading with players at all unless you can find a very hard to find item for a very good price. dont buy farmable items, you can get them yourself. only buy unfarmable items Mini Grawl 20k, yes please. Tormented items for 100k+, LoL no thanks.

They don't ban permanently. Temporarily is the usual case. Anyways, why would it matter? Banning someone ($100 US roughly) for swearing a little bit? In a private message? Similarly, can you ticket someone for texting swears to you?

Support doesn't tell you if they ban (temporarily or otherwise) the guy or not.
He may very well have been banned; it's just that as a policy, they don't tell you whether or not they did anything. One and a half weeks after the ticket was sent, he would be off his ban by then anyway. Especially if it was just for foul language; that's about a 3-day ban at most.

Seriously, there are features in game, namely the Ignore feature, that helps you ignore people.

All games, like real life, will be full of bums. I personally find the GW community extremely mature compared to those of other MMORPGs, though (especially RuneScape).
The chat filter isn't good either. It'd censor some NPC dialog. Anyone remember when Rurik says "Balthazar be damned"? How would that work out?

eventhough i don't play GW anymore and this doesn't affect me but i always report rude/racist ppl on my server in WoW. I'm sure other ppl in my server does it as well and let me tell you the general environment/mood on my server is very nice. Ppl are nice and helpful to one another. Ppl discuss things in a nice and polite manner. Wouldn't you want that in GW? So lets fight the good fight as Kane OG mentioned above and remind ppl who are being rude that it is not welcomed on GW.

Second, foul language is NOT a bannable offense for any reason - there is a chat filter. However, abuse (which seems may have been your case), can qualify for a potential flag/temp ban - although I would simply recommend using your ignore list.

I like the unlimited ignore list idea. My is full all the time, so I can't ignore put on it anyone that is using strange language in Local, while I talk with few people. Or I can't place a complaining/self-centered idiot on it, because it's full ALL THE TIME. Why A.Net thinks that we should have 6 times more friends than ,,ignored'' people? I think it should be opposite - 60 friends, 360 ignored. At least.

Chat Filter is pointless for us, anyone over the age of eight knows that **** means that the person who spoke said something most of us would rather not hear directed to oneself. Im also quite sure that anyone over the age of eight can think of 5 words that could be ****, thus redundancy.
Ignore on the other hand is more useful. Ive only every needed it once, twice if you count my RL friend who I have to block every 2nd week on every program he can communicate with me at all.
