Where Did All The "Shiny" Weapons Go?
korcan
im not complaining per se. just a little curious is all.
with the release of gwen, runic blades, stygian reavers, and crystallines have taken huge nose dives in price for various reasons. some of the reasons being gwens introduction of new greens with the same skins or inscribable purples when it comes to the crystalline. the new elite destroyer weapons are relatively cheap atm and will only get cheaper as time goes buy.
so my question to you is...
are 100k + xxx or xxxx ectos weapons now a thing of the past? are the only items that will fetch/cost a cagillion ectos solely a handful of asian minis?

Prepare your flame retardant suit.
GW is truly casual player friendly now, no more "shiny" stuff to be had.
Only things left, for those that wish to have "shiny" stuff is low req Tyrian stuff and old school Crystallines.

Shiny weapons were a thing of the past since Nightfall.

hehe... blunt but to the point Malice.
Yeah... RIP valuable items.
Granted, the market was already dead thanks to NF... GW:EN just tied up the loose ends (crystalines and dwarven axes).

Market is dead to some, just waking up to others. All depends on your cash flow.
To the average Joe NF was a dream come true, to people like me it was a bitch. However, I actually play now, where as all I use to do was chat and buy/sell.

It isn't hard to get wealthy in GW, if you PvP. It only takes a low req Crystalline/Stygian to drop and you have a few hundred ecto right there. PvE only players get screwed over in the long run.

Crap like that is bought with the ton of 'ebayed' gold floating around in High End sell these days.
The truly rich only surface when there is something worth buying.

To answer OP, yea no longer will we see items like that. Do I actually miss it? Well, tbh the course that this game takes is rather irrelevant to me now, there is only so much effort into something you can put in.
GloryFox
ANet made "shiny" weapons pointless because of the Hall of Monuments. Only Destroyer weapons count, and they are far from "shiny".
You can't see me
Shiney is all in opinion.
To someone, an item like a req 9 perfect "Insert cheap skin here" could be shiney.
To someone else, a req 7 perfect Crystalline Sword would be shiney.
Again, it all depends on where you are in this game. The Elitists got thrown off thier soapboxes and the casual players got everything they whined for. The only thing left to do is throw an inscription on every weapon in the game to end the elitist way of life.
Aside from putting FoW armors on all your characters, or going after weapons and minipets that will be in actual play, useless to you, there's no point to save large amounts of money.
The shiney weapons went down with the casual players wave. It's when a game changes to suit casual players a lot more than the "Elitists". I've seen every game I've played do it. Guild Wars is just heading down the path of the life of an MMO.
However, this doesn't mean it's over. I've still got titles and items to obtain. (Inclduing 10 sets of FoW, that I will probably not get done in a lifetime of play.) You can say the sky is falling because casual players can now have some older shiney items, but I choose not to let it ruin my gaming experience, and continue on toward my goals. I would suggest that anyone else do the same, if they still have goals they want to achieve.

I think the reason for more of the same skins is because they re-used a lot of stuff (throwing old things into the drop tables) from previous campaigns. That, in effect, is good for the casual player in regards to dropped item skins, but the rest appears more a response to the non-casual (as was mentioned in another thread - though that thread talked about the entire process of change). You can find her comments on the change in mentality in the 'enough is enough' thread.

Necessities (runes, basic weapons): Gold goes further because it's harder to get than it used to be, relative to these necessities.
Mid-range (rare skin q9 inscribable-type stuff, a few green weapons, gold/green 2nd year minis, bone dragon, kuuna): Here your gold goes a little further due to increased supply of most of this stuff. EotN slashed the rarity of a lot of the rare skins (I took a 200 ecto bath on my customized q9 Runic, thanks ever so much ANet), which led to substantial price declines on a few items.
High-range (q8 15^50/+5 inherent rare skins, Tormented, mini Mallyx, etc.): Here your money goes just about as far as it did before; the dupe did cut Tormented prices some. But basically you're paying the same price for this sort of stuff, because supply isn't rising faster than demand (and with the q8s it isn't rising period).
Ultra-high-range (q7 15^50s, the odd super-rare q8 [Crystalline, a few others], unconditional weapons, the extremely rare minipets): Here your money goes nowhere near as far as it did. This results from the fact that supplies are so low that sellers can basically charge whatever the wealthiest people in the economy are capable of paying. The capacity of the wealthiest players has gone up dramatically in the last six months. Back in April, if you'd found a Kanaxai for sale it would have gone for, oh, 1500-2500 ecto. Good luck finding one for a fifth of that price, if one ever hits the market.
There's a lot of reasons for the increase in capacity. The armbrace dupe is the most popular explanation (and there's truth to the explanation). Another explanation is that during the last six months it became very possible to make a LOT of money in a very short period of time in certain places. This had the net effect of turning a fair number of players with 2-3 million gold into players with 10-15 million gold.
Basically, it's not as though the "shiny" stuff is gone. The problem is that there's nowhere near enough of it to support a market these days. Too many of the wealthiest players have left for greener pastures; a lot of hyper-valuable stuff lies dormant on accounts as a result. Also, the set of items that can legitimately be called "shiny" has contracted with time. GW:EN added little hyper-rare stuff that's desirable, and reduced the rarity of a lot of items.
The problem with all of this is that the payoffs from hanging out in trade districts have become sufficiently low that markets for a lot of the rarest stuff simply don't exist in-game anymore. It isn't worth a player's time to purchase items and spend time advertising it in the market, as the low profits mean that (skilled) farming is generally more profitable.
Thus, what little you see of the "shiny" stuff typically shows up in the high-end forum. However, that merchandise is generally drowned out by the findings of the farmers running around GW:EN, who are trying to farm and sell those items before they become oversupplied and the prices collapse.
Upshot is that it looks like nothing good is ever for sale, and the REALLY good stuff is totally out of the reach of most players. All this is somewhat true, but is also an oversimplification of the actual dynamics.
I MP I
Most of the shiny weapons are on inactive/banned account which haven't been seen since prophecies/factions Some were people I knew. Wish I could've had some of their stuff before they quit/got banned. Then again I'd have less space then I do now

I don't know why people fuss over the really rare crap so much. I think they're just too focused on social influence. I use what is pretty... and more often than not what is pretty isn't all that rare or difficult to get.
Fissure of Woe armour is hideous for the most part (apart from Ritualist and Dervish, so I found). Crystalline Swords are fugly. Dwarven Axes are boring. Elemental Swords are absolutely revolting. Mini Kanaxai and Mallyx are both ugly IMHO....
*Shrugs*
Gimme Celestial Weapons, Ancient Armor and a Mini-Pig any day.

Does anyone know do Stygian Reavers drop in PvE? I saw on wiki that it is comfirmed that it drops in Darkrime Delves dungeon but... I couldn't find any proof.

AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you make me laugh. You seriously cant be thinking that because if you buy a cool skin now, because its not super expensive you think you wont look as 1337 so theres no point in playing??????????????? Or is it more along the lines of "Oh no a NOOB can get cool weapons now. I dont want to be on the same level as a NOOB!!!"
If that is what your thinking you have a very skewed idea of what this game was created for.
Seriously dude, whatever logic you had behind your statement is rediculous and laughable.

crystallines and reavers dropped in the weekend preview but was made hoh only again with the release of gwen.

Iff he thinks the items make the man he is on the wrong side of the road.
Couse all that high end stuff doesn't show his skills.
Only that he whas crazy enough to spent alot of money to get it and be one of those people who size there skill to ingame status.

Rare weapons I think were intended for people who enjoy grind. Yes the game caters to individuals that are casual but what about people who are in it more than a casual player? Yeah that's right asshat there's more than 1 type of gamer that plays this game and rare weapons catered to more hardcore players. Getting rare weapons and a vast money supply (I'm talking more than maxing storage) took loads of time power selling and farming. Some people fuss, so what it's their game let them play how it satisfies them.
I'm going to take a breath now.
Fitz Rinley
Well, I have played in GWEN and I have not seen one crystalline anything. I have not seen a single skin that I personally want. I cannot put anything I would like to in the HoM becaue it requires I gold sink for weapons I only want to throw away so I wont be wasting valuable storage space on something I dont want to ever be seen with. Things I do want do not drop or cannot drop there. And if my entry into Frostmaw this morning is anything like what the rest of the dungeons are now like - then there is no reason to bother. (Half of us were killed between recognition of load and being able to use the keys by a group of Chromatics that were standing in the LZ; then we only had 2 more groups, a siege wurm, a frost wurm, and 4 avalanches a half circle away.) I personally felt the thing was horrid enough durring preview, and for no reason. It certainly didn't provide any treasure that was useful or profittable.

Boooya dont bother, most people on this forum just can't fathom that some people like to 'grind' or powersell for shiny weopons and will just ridicule you out of arrogance or jelousy.
Sure GW wasn't designed to be orientated round loot, but they put 'shiny weopons' in for a reason and its a shame they seem to be being phased out.

I think Wild needs the cold hard truth.
Some players, including me want to see our time/effort manifested in wealth. This is also common in the real world - you wouldn't work overtime for no extra pay would you ?
Please stop whining that you can't afford the luxuries when your not prepared to put in the work.
"Oh no a NOOB can get cool weapons now. I dont want to be on the same level as a NOOB!!!"
Is one of my 'illogical' reasons for farming and if you dont like it you can... err mind your own business :P.
