After spending too much quality time with Cyndr, my Paragon gave up on defeating the wurm with heroes and henchmen. I tried all the recommended solutions (SS & SV Necros, touch rangers, WoH monks, and flagging), but it boiled down to one simple solution, do this mission with real people.

I put my name on the mission search window with lfg in HoS and folks joined up. That statement screams noob - lol. I had my doubts about the assembled PUG because there was not a Necro or Ranger on the list.

We had 2 Warriors, 2 Paragons, 1 Deverish, 1 Ele, and 2 monk heroes.

Yasmin the Paragon used a Cautery Signet build and my Paragon used Focused Anger build with the Ranger poison signet.

Cyndr went down on the first try.

My thanks to the team, it was a pleasure.

Did I miss something? Barbs and some physicals + pets are all I need to kill Cyndr, and yeas for heaven's sake USE FLAGS to spread you heroes in a circle around cyndr, else everything will fail faster then a rabbit gets f*cked

I stand by my "hide behind a wall and poison him with arrows" strategy. It's not failed me yet.

Always Asking [Why]

Well, i read all the stuff related to Cyndr and still can't achieve to beat this big, full of flesh and armor, wurm. I tried several builds and they all failed. Micromanagement is not part of my best skills though. I can flag my heroes but as I play an Ele tank i can't stop moving to flag my heroes.

My question is, simply ,where do you advertise for this quest ? Eye of the North ? Olafstead ?

I got lucky with the whole hide behind the wall strategy. Other then that i kept recurring a -60 dp and kept getting one shotted. Its just not easy with henchmen or heroes.

I went as an ele and my friend went as a warrior. We both took 3 heros each. I took 2 monks, a prot and a healer, and I took a ranger interrupter. He took Koss, Olias as a life stealing and zhed as a snare I think.

We postioned the heros like someone said, created a circle of heros, and as they were keeping him away from me, I was able to use the barrels and take him down pretty quickly. This was only my 2nd time.

My friend, although couldn't hurt him until I disabled it, was tanking to throw him off as well. Only 2 of our heros died once. The monks stayed alive as my ranger interrupt the other 2 skills.

Solo guide

Take all 3 hero rangers set them to touchies

[Vampiric touch] [vampiric bite] [grenths balance] [whirling defense] [throw dirt] only skills needed

Equip with any staff or wand/off hand anything to boost energy

Max expertise
Max blood

Takes a little longer to get there but the final boss is a quick "how do you do"

Take both healer hench
Warrior hench
Cynn

Call target after touching the anvil and bum rush him
If you can set yourself to blood life steal it will speed up the fun

I had serious problems with him a few days ago, best way is to just get like 2 decent healers, a touch ranger, and ALL out "Player Only" bombard him with bombs, and he goes down very fast.

I found it extremely difficult and a waste of time to do this with henchmen and heroes.

I'm sorry to say but trying this with h/h is just waste of time. If you have touch rangers you are lucky but else just forget it. I finished it yesterday with 4 other people and we did it in less than 10 seconds by dropping kegs only. If you are masochist then go with h/h. Most of suggestions here don't work because Arena removed them long time ago.

I just did it again last night with my new necro. I tried getting cute and setting up a dual monk protection setup, with a battery necro to protect me while I ran the keg but that was a joke. Just going back to the old old standby of life stealing skills was surprisingly effortless on my second try. Here's my setup:

Pyre Fierceshot - Superior Expertise Rune (necessary!), Totem Axe (any melee weapon would work fine), Blood Focus (no other runes, since I never use him) - Touch Ranger

Livia, Olias and Myself (necro) - Removed any unneeded superior runes, maxed blood magic and took about 4 life stealing skills (Blood drinker, Jaundiced Gaze, Vamp gaze, and Angorodon gaze I think, Barbed Signet, offering of Blood elite but probably not necessary). I also spec'd a few points into death and took rotting flesh too. If I had Order of Vampire or Grenth's Balance unlocked, I bet that would work well too.

Henchies were Eve, both monks, and an archer (I think)

Basically you just attack Cyndr right off the bat and not worry about the keg at all. He went down in a few seconds since his health really isn't that high to begin with. Life stealing skills go right through the carapace.

The challenge is mainly keeping your team alive to get there since it isn't exactly the best PvE team. Be sure to hug the right hand wall on the first level to avoid as many Wizards as you can and be wary of those magma blisters and flame elementals right before Cyndr.

I did it with just Livia and myself (ele) loaded up with life-stealing skills, and the rest of the team balanced. It was no trouble getting to Cyndr, and it didn't take long for the two of us to get the beastie down without keg running. I had so much fun with it that I've put rolling a necro char on my to-do list.

Does anyone know if [Ray of Judgment] hits through the carapace?

Not unless you know of a skill that changes Holy Damage to life stealing...

This mission does not require any special builds or tricks. Just like someone said, flag your heroes out, trigger the boss, and run the kegs. Works in both NM/HM, H/H.

Special builds does make it easier / faster for some people, but just following the basics can ensure you that you can kill the boss with just 1 caraspace down in HM, H/H (done it plenty of times).

Basics = flagging, team setup of hero/hench as well as team build synergy.

tips for a survivor war when killing Cyndr?

thinking 3 touchers + 2 monk hench + optional x2
and just flag them to cyndr and let them spam away whilst I am at a safe distance?

any other methods or would that be the best bet?

Ok I can't figure out how to train Vampiric Bite for my R/N hero. Did web search for an hour and couldn't find it. Thanks!

BrettM, that would be true if I was training for myself but I'm E/Me. I need the skill for my R/N *HERO*.

I figured out I can unlock it from a Balthazar priest using 1000 Bathazar faction. Thanks for the replies though!

You do know that you can change your secondary to /N and just buy the skill, right? Anything "you" learn is also learnt by your heroes...

Cyndr was for me the most hard boss to resist the damage on EotN, now I know why, playing Guild Wars about 2 months i didn't knew the armor importance, so Cyndr hit's me by 700+ damage, I was without my head armor(lol).
Me and H/H all -60%, my life was about 160+-, 4AM more than 50 tries...
My skills Ravenouz Gaze, Angorodon's Gaze, Vampiric Gaze N/Me
My heroes and henchs Ogden, Olias with SV, and Pyre Touch Ranger, earth mehnlo, lina and eve.
Usually it was 10s wipe to res and rinse again, no matter where the H/H was flagged, generally we was wiped in the entrance, but the miracle happened... Cyndr spawned besides the entrance, flagged the H/H behind the wall, mehnlo , i don't know why stepped outside, so H/H wipe... it was just me and Cyndr with a reestructured carapace and full life bar, I positioned behind the wall too , cynd couldn't hit me in this way, so I got her down in - 3minutes! Ravenouz Gaze, Angorodon's Gaze and Vampiric Gaze did the work, just these tree skills. If you don't have money to buy armor like me, I think that 2 blood heroes or touch rangers and 1 E/N with Ward Against Harm can beat her easily without break the carapace and flag. Setup blood bond on the necros to help devona or talon make more damage and Good lucky.

Here Comes Trouble [HUGS]

to Mark Nevermiss and all for their contributions to this thread.

I had problems even getting close to defeating Cyndr with my relatively new Mesmer and after reading this thread, loaded Jin and Pyre with following "touch Ranger builds" and Livia with her own "touch necro build", went with one protection and one healing Monk, Jora and Melonni (regular builds) and tried again.

I concentrated on getting the blackpowder kegs to Cyndr and wasn't paying attention but I managed to get two kegs on her and died twice in the process.

When the smoke was clear, Cyndr was dead with one third of her hard carapace still in place on the first try.

Oh, I also gave the Rangers wands as recommended and locked all attackers on Cyndr.

Thanks again.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who posted helpful advice on this thread. This was not an fun or well-designed encounter and I was ready to toss GW1 into the attic (again) but thanks to the GW1 community, I was able to get through. Hats off to you all.

I used 2 Touch Rangers, Livia as a touch necro (builds in ambergris' thread above), a minion bomber necro, Gwen and a Rit.

Perhaps I just ran into a fortunate bug but my group wiped just as I put down the last keg to take out his armor (I had not arranged my heroes in proper order and I wasn't able to position them correctly d'oh). Then as the group resurrects Budger is giving congratulations for killing it. I'll take it and I have NO interest in running this thing again to see if was a reproducible bug or not.

Last time I used an Avatar of Grenth Dervish and that worked great. Next time I will try all rangers, dervishes and a healer.

5. Target the Dwarf.
6. Press Space.
7. Press your "Drop Item" button.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 10 times per second until Cyndr is dead (should take around 6 seconds or so). This doesn't work. I can only get a key every 4 seconds. So I assume it was fixed.

I guess it's time to give up now. Can't make sense of half the suggestion posted here anyway.
I already spent like 10 hours with this quest and got nowhere. It takes like 2 hours to have a decent chance of having him appear next to that dwarf because I get one hitted every time by those homing fireballs and that usually like 1 second before I can place a keg. So getting that Carapace down already takes like 10 minutes each.

And the Henchmen/Heroes are good for nothing but distraction. At least for the 10 seconds they last, even when you spread them all across the room.
And when that Carapace finally get destroyed I can barely get 1/4 of the health down, which quickly recovers of course. Of course the Henchmen could help but they are mostly lying on the ground already.

I can't even find better equipment anywhere. I still use that Flameforged stuff I bought like right when I started playing. You'd think after dozens of hours of playing some NPC would have something better but nooo.

What a colossal waste of time.

If anyone still need this quest I'm happy to help. (IGN Tomoko Mori)
In any case this has worked well for me:
1. Spirit Spammer with Spiritleech Aura, this will bypass Cyndr's armor.
2. Shelter can help reduce damage while running towards Cyndr.
3. More importantly, spread out around him.

heres some helpful hero info:
e/rt vekk = amazing SoS if u make half channeling half restore
xandra can go ST to reduce stuff
Olias & livia can make amazing bloodcaster heros
Another idea is to have a prot hero out as bait for cyndr and have the hero cast prot spirit on u as u keg, then as last keg unflag out of hallway
Or if all else fails theres alwaying hiring a runner. (like myself ;D)
