Well...it's actually Base damage + 38% + Sundering + Strength (varies). Which can add up to a LOT.

Considering req8/9+sundering+fortitude was most desired before greens ever existed, I think you're wrong.

Yes. Also, sundering = +25% damage only works if you assume they have 60 AL.

3. This still leaves vampiric on top though? Just...the gap closes a bit.
Vampiric is on top if all you care about is DPS.

vampiric is better DPS-wise by a tiny margin. it really comes down to personal preference most of the time. both mods are effective, they just give you slightly different results.

"Pre-nerf" is incorrect. It's pre-buff.

I remember the good old days in '05 when a 10%/10% sundering mod was worth 75k+. In PvE, I believe people like durability and big numbers on their weapons which is why sundering is favoured. Sundering is +damage to everything without great drawbacks and, today, is found as 19%/20% or 20%/20% which means a perfect mod is slightly rarer. Elemental mods can be found on blue, purple or gold weapons but perfect sundering is only found on gold weapons. There's [around] a 50% chance that it is 19% too which increases it's rarity.

Rarity equates to superiority in many minds.

all i have to say, is when people are selling like "Fiery 15^50 Chaos Axe of Enchanting (PERFECT)" it makes me pretty mad

but i'd have to say vamp out-performs sundering in almost every logical situation, and furious is better than sundering about 60% of the time.

Erm why?

Fiery is more useful then 10/10, 20/20, -1/1 or 3/-1 in some situations, same goes for 20% enchants.

Actually, I tested my vamp and sundering axes on the Master of Damage. Sundering eeked it out by an average 5 DPS. Hmm.*

Yea i personally fought on the sundering side a year back lol. Since then ive reprimanded my ways and see that vampiric have a more consistent amount of damage, while sundering is more based on luck. While it is theoretically possible to get more then two critical hits, during the 5 total hits, thus making sundering more powerful in that scenario, its basically just luck. And you could end up getting no hits at all during the 5 hits.

Personally, i use vampiric and icy on my war, switching between them. Sundering/zealous on my derv, and zealous/vampiric on my ranger. I am however in no way experienced with the ranger class...

The other issue of +30 vs. +5 AR is a more difficult one to answer. While 5 AR is useful, armor has diminishing effects and on my war i use sentinals giving out a 100 AL combined with the shield totaling 116 AL. So health is more useful in that scenerio. Spellcasters is probably where armor is better since they have low AL, but they are usually lodged up in the back, so i also like health there.

Finally, with the original message of this thread... perfect is just maxed out, not neccesarily req 9 sundering 20/20 and fort +30.

Well if you actually get down here...*starts clapping* :-P
