Hate it, hate it, hate it!

So damn annoying. If its not broke, don't fix it! They need to get rid of this daft GUI update or make it a toggle!

In towns - Totally unnecessary
Outside of town - Toggle on/off

Personally, I think it was an extremely stupid thing to incorporate in towns, out of towns it isnt so bad tho. Helps prevent noobs from calling thier target that is halfway across the radar

We need a toggle option.

All UI changes nowadays are pointless.

The skills were best on their own, attributes were best in the Hero window, and the Prophecies interface looked medieval whilst now we have some stupid abstract thing.

wow. id hate to be the guy who programmed that.

i think if any lesson has been learnt from this is --> put in a toggle feature before u go changing something that affects us directly/visually.

Never hated another 'cosmetic' change as much as this, would cheer and jump if it were to be removed or toggled.

Reminds me of why I stopped playing counter strike. They made a really bad update on the friends system, and made it mandatory. It made everyone lag, and there was nothing wrong with the old one.

This is no different, there was nothing wrong with the old one, but the new doesn't rlly bother me.

Doesn't bother me too much, except in LA and Kamadan. It's HORRIBLE - the background is already dark, and the dimmed names are REALLY hard to see.

A toggle on this would be much appreciated.

Gailes answer : (blah blah blah)..."nor do I see us investing considerable time to develop a whole new design which may be met with as many subjective concerns as was this one."

so they spent considerable time doing this as well huh. GOOD ideas get shafted because they lack the time and are "busy with GW2", BAD half baked in-house ideas are implemented because...junior programmer had 5 min spare at lunch last week?

seriously. GRAY = Confuse with other party member drops. (play your own game sometime?)

I gave it a chance before posting here, but after a day of quite intensive play, I've only come to resent it more.

There's something to be said for more dim monster names if they're at a further distance. In busy areas, I can now more easily tell which names belong to the nearby group and which belong to the group at the horizon. I'm assuming that was the point of this change.

However...

The dim names are very annoying in town, and pointless too. I couldn't care less how far away things are when I'm in an outpost. Nothing is going to sneak up on me and kick my ass. The only thing accomplished is me going squinty-eyed looking for the Xunlai chest or the merchant.

And don't get me started about the loot. It turns into all kinds of odd tints with increasing distance, I'm having a hard time figuring out what it all means. Not helpful at all, rather the opposite.

It is kind of annoying in towns, but I like it outside of towns because so many times when you want to looks ahead at group configurations on the next mob it is hard to distinguish, "ok, this guy is in this group, this guy is in that group" when one group is close and your line of sight has another group across the map in front of you.

Yes I thought something was different. I like the idea but in reality it is harder on my eyes and causes more eye strain than before.

Hmm, we have only 3 colors in GW (outside outposts). Green, red and yellow. I like the idea, but it could be done better IMO. At first: enabling this in outposts and on players wasn't good. I'd say Anet implemented this feature just to help players who target ctrl-clicking method to avoid accidentaly selecting mobs from distance - and then luring whole rooms

The solution? Keep this idea, but instead of alpha make whole new color. Let's say grey for mobs which AREN'T aggroed. Those who would be aggroed would be marked red as usual. And of course add option to disable this feature, since there are still people who target with c and tab....

I like it, outside of towns. I agree that inside it can be a pain in the rear.

Don't mind having this option either way.

But if the distance is readily available, I hope anet can also add a draw-distance option when intown, so to get rid of all other players who are far away... (ie. not display them)

This can help a lot during these Halloween and Wintersday 1~2 fps scenarios.

I think the feature is really useful. Anyway, it can be improved. Oh! and the toggle on/off option is always good (for every feature in game, not just this one)

I don't understand why video game companies (not just Anet, but in General) leave simple options out, such as this. The recent console games I've been playing have left even simple things like being able to completely customize your button layout. Do the companies themselves think that their way is superior and if someone has a problem with it, tough titty? Is it really hard to realize that everyone enjoys options? Is a toggle to turn off autotarget and now fading text so demanding on manpower that it simply isn't possible to add to the already existing Options menu? What happened to, "We don't have the resources to dedicate any more updates to Guild Wars 1, since our current focus is 100% Guild Wars 2?" You tell us these things, and then you roll out completely unnecessary UI changes such as this, but leave things like a very poorly designed Search feature alone.

Years of Human-Computer Interaction research tells otherwise. The more options a UI has, the worse it generally is from a usability perspective. Cf. almost any software Apple makes.

(Not saying this necessarily applies in this specific instance.)

change it back... the grayed/dimmed out historically meant dead, and so when I see these dimmed chars I keep wondering why everyone's dead

I love the change. I love knowing how many of those monster are actually close up, and how many are actually farther away when their names are all bunched up on the screen.
