Feedback on a Minor UI Change (Dimmer names/objects)
ValaOfTheFens
I don't like it in cases where mobs are close together b/c its impossible to see who is in what mob. Otherwise its good for targeting. Its a waste in towns. The other day I couldn't find a guildie of mine in a town(we were in the same dist too) b/c when I pressed CTRL he was too far away to see. I'm in favor of toggle in explorable areas and off in towns.
Snow Bunny
I don't understand why this was implemented, to be honest.
[Tab] wasn't enough?
All this does is disorient me, honestly.

I havent noticed any differences yet so it can't be that much of a problem.
(I've been farming for absinthe all day so trust me, I've been around.)

Thank you so much for the feedback. We'll include this in the Community Summary this week so that the designers can see how you feel about this, and note the suggestions that you've offered.

The problem with far away team mates is that the light blue becomes almost light grey, which makes them look dead.
troyismyname
i honestly thought this was implemented only for the halloween event to make things... more ghostly? lol
Sweet Mystery
Yeah this change really sucks tbh.... there was nothing wrong before any surely people can see onscreen what is far away without needing the lettering on the names to be a duller colour....
I am one for its removal or at least be able to be turned off....

I do like the idea of being able to tell distances, but this implementation does confuse things somewhat. A couple of suggestions.
1. The closer the object, the larger the text size.
2. Make NPC's and players immune from it.
3. Switch it off in towns
4. Make it optional.
In addition, since we are talking UI changes. How about making people on your flist's tag be a different color(green maybe)?

I've got used to this now, and much prefer it.
But optional would please everyone.

I hate this dimming thing. It needs to be a toggle option or removed completely. Its just sooo stupid. -_-

The change does not fix anything that was broken, so there should be something about it that makes the game or the gaming experience better. The ostensible reason for it was that it would show players graphically how far away an enemy or an object was. Unfortunately, it does not do that. Names of enemies and objects are only at full brightness when they are within your aggro bubble. When an enemy is even slightly outside the aggro bubble, its name is dimmed. If it moves further away, it may dim ever so slightly more, but the change in dimming is so small that there is no way to judge accurately *without looking at the mini-map* how far away an enemy is simply by how dim the name is. So, effectively, the dimming tells you only that an enemy is outside your aggro bubble. But that is useless information because, if the enemy were inside your aggro bubble, it would be attacking you.
If you want accurate information on how far away an enemy is, you still need to look at the mini-map, which is what we all had to do before the change anyway. So the dimming feature does not accomplish the goal that it seeks to accomplish. At best, it provides imprecise and unreliable information about how far away an enemy is.
Further, it provides potentially misleading information about the distance of enemies. Some enemies (including certain bosses, Mallyx, Aatxes, etc.) often have an aggro range that exceeds your aggro bubble, sometimes by a great margin. So with the new change, if you attempt to estimate the distance of an enemy by the dimmed name alone, *without looking at the mini-map,* you might think that you are safe, but you could find yourself suddenly being attacked by an Aatxe (for example) and quickly dead. If you want accurate information on the distance of enemies, you still need to look at the mini-map - like we had to do before the change.
So in the end, all that the new change does is show dimmer names, which causes eye strain. Staring at a computer screen for hours on end is bad enough on the eyes. Squinting to see dim names is even worse. Someone said it above: squinting at the screen ftl.
Thanks for a great game and a lot of good updates. This one, though, I believe needs to be reconsidered. Please change it back or at least toggle it.

Totally hate the dimming feature especially when you can't tell the difference between your loot and someone else's or can't even find NPCs anymore without squinting to death.
Miss Puddles
it's almost impossible to tell what drops off in the distance are yours or not. ran into this problem doing glint's challenge today. all the drops on the other side of the map looked like they didn't belong to me, even though some did.
it's just annoying. toggle please.
