Very true, but it also makes a big difference how they tell you.

Scenario 1:
Me: I'm using Flare against shadow beast.

Leet Player: OMFG!!!!! YOU BRAINLESS MORON!!!!!! FLARE SUKS U IDEOT!!! %#@$^ WHY DON'T YOU JUST SLIT YOUR WRISTS NOW!!!!! U'R WORTHLESS!!!!

Me: geez, what an elite jerk. He doesn't know what he's talking about.

Scenario 2:
Me: I'm using Flare against Glint

Leet Player: Hey, don't use Flare here. It's a really bad fire skill. Do you have Fireball or Liquid Flame?

Me: Really? Ok, I have fireball but not liquid flame. Where can I get that?

Group dynamics are group dynamics. Being on a computer doesn't turn you into a robot...even if you keep good control of your emotions/reactions, they are still human.

Yes, me too. Very much so. But I think that helpfulness is a sign of a good attitude. How much can you learn from somebody who is inarticulate, rude, and consistently negative? If you ask me, a lot of the time people who have a bad attitude don't want you to do better because it would get in the way of feeling like they're better than everyone else.

Obviously a combination of good attitude and aptitude is ideal. But that's not really on the table here.
