I'm up to 12 characters currently, I've cleared every campaign with most of them, some of them twice, and a couple three times over. I'm never satisfied with any of them, so I constantly end up deleting them and recreating them anew shortly after I consider them finished. Sometimes same class, sometimes different. Sometimes my motivation is something incredibly petty, like the hair, or the height, or the face, and sometimes I just would rather have that name on another class. Because of this I've salvaged more obsidian and elite armors, as well as customized golds than I'd like to admit. I actually deleted my main Warrior the first time shortly after getting my first FoW set ever and deciding that it just didn't fly with the hairstyle he had at the time. His name currently belongs to my third Elementalist.

I have 4 retired PvE Chars, My first proph warrior, my first proph ranger, a factions ranger, and a nightfall ele. Not deleting them because you don't have a first again(and I want the minipets =P) I have a ranger that I am working on legendary survivor then after that work on KOABD. Then I have an RA pvp monk, my PvP mesmer, and just a pvp slot to reroll anything.

I tend to get attached to characters. I originally only wanted to be able to have one character of each class to mess around with, then I wanted a slot open for PvP, which eventually turned into a PvE character (as all my PvP slots tend to do for some reason that I cannot quite explain) ... and now I have 15. I play 4 or so consistently, but all of my PvE characters get their time. The rest are mules or PvP slots.

11, one for each profession plus one free slot for miscellaneous activities (PvP, build testing, newb farming). I have one main character (E) concentrating on accomplishments and the rest support her by farming and storing stuff, or join an alliance party when a specific profession is needed. Farming is less tedious when you have 10 different characters with their own farming places each, so a quick run between more wholesome activities is hardly a chore and keeps the money flowing for those insanely expensive titles
