8 slots with 6 pve chars, all lvl 20+completed tyria/cantha/nightfall, and 2 pvp chars.
Rothen Kithkanan
got 8 slots, Used to have 5 chars, but recently deleted the lot and am now starting fresh with a tyrian ranger.
Aera Lure
Nine. All classes but an assassin. I primarily play my monk now though, as I've run out of space and storage became an issue. Each of the other 8 have their things on them, and then the other spaces are used for storage.
Jetdoc
Five...to make sure that all 10 classes are represented by either a primary or a secondary.
Mordakai
I've got 12....
Oddly enough, no Assassin. I have 2 Rangers (ones a Mule) and 2 Necros though.. (I made the second Necro just for Halloween).
Couple are in pre-sear. (I wouldn't call them perma-pres, as I eventually would like them to get Legendary Defender and get them out, but at this rate, they might as well be perm-pre!)

Olim Chill
One main character. I'll create the occasional experimental and delete it after my curiosity is satisfied.
blood4blood
22 characters across 3 accounts, plus a re-roll slot, almost all mules, I think 13 are level 20's right now (and I've deleted tons of low-level characters and a few 20's over the last couple years).
tyche7
I have one account
16 players - all PVE and/or mules
I have 1 of each profession at level 20 with all nightfall heroes and all 3 campaigns completed on each of those.
and my mules are just the opposite gender of some of those professions (-:

I used to have 2 accs. But when additional slots became avaliable, I decided to buy a few and forfeit the 2nd acc..
Now I got 8, lvl 20, PVE Chars, 1 mule and 1 slot for PVP.

I have other chars, but my Ranger is the big time primary and my monk (which used to get all the playing time) now is a slave to the grind!

8 Slots - One character from each campaign all at level 20 - W/Mo from Prophecies, R/Mo from Factions and (my favourite) E/Mo from Nightfall. Also have a level 6 Necromancer I just started in Prophecies.

1 of each profession for both pve and pvp (I know, but having the pvp's premade still saves time), a mule, and a permanent presear character.

8 level 20's ,although I only play 3 on regular bassis.

I have just one PvE char, along with a mule or two (don't ask why, i have loads of storage space ) and PvP chars. I don't think you will get bored of just the one PvE char. It depends how much you love the campaign(s). I can't stand going through all the missions, etc, AGAIN, so i just work on titles.
But with 1 PvE char you'll need alot of builds to give you variation and keep it interesting

I've had 1 PvE character for awhile, none of them get to level 20 because I've yet to find my perfect class... Even after one and a half years of playing.
PvP chars vary from 1 to 7. <_<

All but monk
No I did not buy a extra slot I got a factions bonus key for free from a friend which got me a extra one.
All got good builds with good armor/weapon set ups, Paragon is main now so others will be used when I want a change.

I have 9 PvE characters on my main account, 3 on my secondary account (which, like most people with multiple accounts, I purchased before it was possible to buy character slots). Nowadays I use my secondary account for mule purposes only, mostly because my secondary account has relatively few unlocked skills for hero/pvp builds and I like my account wide achievements to be on my main account.
Generally I play all my characters equal amounts. When I first started playing I was curious about how it felt to play as a particular profession. Now I enjoy having multiple characters because of greater opportunities for differing my style of gameplay. Also, having multiple characters is handy for flexibility in farming or for easily getting into groups for elite missions.
I'll typically tire of the types of skillbars I play on one profession and so I'll starting playing on a different character. Sometimes my boredom of one character/profession will go away after playing another for an hour, but other times it takes days, weeks, or months before I come back to it. I never abandon a profession permanently because I eventually miss playing with that character or gameplay type, or I find a way of farming which that profession is most effective with.
Of course, having so many characters gives me numerous competing priorities in-game. This is the basic disadvantage of creating many characters. However, in general I'd recommend that anyone create as many characters as they'd like. As long as you're enjoying yourself your'e spending your in-game time well.

wakefield
7 PVE (elem, warrior, monk, ranger, necro, mesmer, rit) and 2 PVP (dervish, sin)
erfweiss
11 PvE slots.
All 10 professions (all lvl 20). My Sin tends to be my least used char, currently a mule.
The 11th is a presear char (lvl 5), but that one could be wiped to use a PvP slot.
