I currently have 10 charicters. But since the addition of titles, I only use 1 of those for almost everything. (I love my little necro). The rest are mainly used as storage.( I have too much crap).

I have nine character slots. Five pve (male warrior, necro, ele, ranger, female warrior). Finished all three campaigns with all five, but only my male warrior and my necro has finish GWEN. The rest are looking like they're gonna be mules in this GWEN era. And frankly I'm not bothering to grind through GWEN with my necro either. I just use her to farm nowadays, so I guess the only real active character is my male warrior in pve.
Three are pvp slots. Two pretty much permanent warrior and necro slots (since I don't have to reroll anymore when I change secondaries or runes) and a spare random pvp slot. And one slot as a mule.

full proph, factions, NF and one extra slot. two are mules, two are new and may become mules if I get tired of them...which isn't likely because I'm enjoying the self-sufficiency of a Dervish and Paragon is just so damn fun to play.

Hmmm, I have one of each profession + 1 extra ranger + several mules.
My Elementalist and Monk are the only characters who ever see much sustained play any more. Ele is working through Hard Mode and Monk sees a lot of use in Alliance Battles.
I love my Ritualist and Mesmer, but never seem to find much time to use them.

Have to say like my Mesmer and he and my Necro are played the most
I have often deleted a char and made another just for the storylines and to have some fun starting over on a char
I do agree with all the Gwen items it sure takes up some room
will have to try to pass a lot to a 2nd account as have 4 there use for a mule at times

With 20 different characters, i would have to do it also only 20 times ...
With your math logic this would mean, that I would play through with each of my characters everythign twice XD
but the fact is, i would do everything "only" 20 times *g* ..ehm theoretically if i would really plan to do this so often and don't crwate characters simple just only for fun ^^

I have 7/8 used. 6 PvE and 1 PvP. And no you won't necessarily get bored with just one. Some people really like to devote themselves to one character and work on improving them for fun, but everyone is different so if ya do get bored be sure to experiment with other professions and find the one ya like most!

I play all of them a little but my first character, the mesmer, is the only one I've finished the stories with and done all the stuffz. My second main, the rit is the second farthest. He is halfway through each campaign.
I basically spend more time learning skills on those two and making builds than actually running around. lol

10 level 20 PvE characters, one of each profession, all equipped with the proper gear to play most any PvP build. I don't see the point in a PvP only character. My PvE characters do it just fine.

every mule has full storage ability (45 + 0 to 4 as equipped stuff)
the main reason I need so much room is because I collect green items
I have already all tyrian and canthan greens, plus a bunch of elonian and gwen greens, I'm at around 380 greens out of the 660 I counted (I don't count end game greens, otherwise that's 190 more ...)
good thing is I will get lots of minis

i got 11 slots, 1 empty for pvp the rest are pve, 2 under level 20 the rest 20 and i play most of them at one time or another, just depends. myy assassin is my main character followed by my monk.
