I don't think it's really fair to criticize builds, yours or other peoples, which were used prior to, say, LA. Skill selection is just too poor in those areas to really come up with much of a good build.

I can't remember the build exactly and for some unknown reason I deleted the screenshots, but here are the stories.
First one takes place in Unwaking Waters, Luxon side. Normally, I'd just H/H this, but nooo, I just had to decide to help out a pug. Ranger1 pings build along the lines of [skill]Apply Poison[/skill] [skill]Charm Animal[/skill] [skill]Revive Animal[/skill] [skill]Meteor[/skill] [skill]Fire Storm[/skill] [skill]Meteor Shower[/skill] [skill]Conjure Flame[/skill] and one other skill, it wasn't an elite and it wasn't a res. Believe it could have been [skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill] At least he had some kind of energy management cause his expertise was about 2, 12 in Fire Magic and the Rest in BM for his level ten pet.
Ranger2 pinged almost the exact same bar except he had [skill]Barrage[/skill] to replace Conjure and [skill]Comfort Animal[/skill] in the place of MS. Still with no res and Att points were similar. No Marks, with Barrage as his elite. Excellent! I quickly checked to see if they were in the same guild, but they weren't.
Got a Necro next. Said he was MM and pinged his build. [skill]Healing Breeze[/skill] [skill]Heal Party[/skill] [skill]Heal Area[/skill] [skill]Animate Bone Fiend[/skill] [skill]Animate Bone Horror[/skill] [skill]Animate Bone Minions[/skill] [skill]Animate Shambling Horror[/skill]
And guess what that incredible elite was.... You got it, [skill]Blood is Power[/skill] Points were something like 12 Healing Prayers, 10 Death Magic and the rest in Blood. I quickly left that group and apologized profusely to my H/H for ever leaving them.
Next encounter was trying to get my ranger through Raisu Palace or whatever it's called. Again, I was rendered temporarily retarded and decided to pug. The group wasn't half bad and they listened when offering build advice. All we needed was a healer. A monk soon joins and pings her bar. [skill]Distracting Blow[/skill] [skill]Sever Artery[/skill] [skill]Healing Breeze[/skill] [skill]Mending[/skill] [skill]Bane Signet[/skill] [skill]Signet of Judgment[/skill] [skill]Resurrection Chant[/skill] [skill]Mend Condition[/skill] All of her points were piled into Strength and Tactics (with no Tactics skills). The rest were divided into Protection Prayers and Smiting Prayers with maybe three in Healing Prayers. She saw nothing wrong with it, in fact she thought it was great cause she could interrupt the monks. Oh, yeah. That would have been mad fun.
At least you carried a res?

Well, this is not a bad build but I dialog I had with a level 20 Ranger in the late 2005 I think.
I was with one of my characters in Droknar's and a Ranger started to ask in the local chat:
(R) Now that I've done Dragon's Lair, what do I have to do here?
(me) You need to take the primary quest, you can get max armor, and also do the quests for 30 attribute points
(R) Who gives the quests?
(me) The primary here (I showed the NPC) the attribute points in the desert
(R) Could you explain me what are attribute points?
(me) :O the points you put on the skills ...
(R) Where do I see them?
(me) press K
pause
(me) do you see them?
(R) wow I have a lot of them!
(me) you have to put them on marksmanship, expertise and so on to improve you skills
(R) nice never noticed this before!
I remember perfectly that he said he arrived there doing Dragon's Lair, still don't understand how he could do the ascension ...

I've been jumped for having barrage and a preparation on the same skillbar. I just explain that you don't use them together -- it all depends on what you are going up against and when. Some people still don't get it though.

Im alright now but seriously getting to droks that way in the game and not knowing how to use attributes makes me feel sorry for that guys team the most o_0 was my reaction to him. The flesh golem thing is hilarious
just remembered how ages ago when i was a total noob. I didn't have max armor when i got to last prophecies missions. I had bad rune setup as i never understood them and i dont beleve at that time i understood wat divine favour was. This led to a shortage of energy. especially because in the mission my healing monk had no elites on his bar and would waste 5 energy casting banish.
I would hear crys from the team saying "??? was that smiting?" "Banish WTF?"...my replies would be either "its not me...." or "I had room on my skill bar"....
the first excuse makes me laugh especially because u can see what skilsl people cast. I also recall for a long time having the spell (cant remember its name) that is like fire showers. lol it used to take forever to cast and used 15 energy back then

I forget the rest, but the necromancer refused to change, insisting Demonic was required for BiP.
Don't bother asking about the axe... I don't think he had any skills for it either.

No idea where he gets his energy from...
This was somewhere on the ring of fire, and I guess he had prophecies only.

wamo #1: WoH, Sprint, Rush, Orison, Sever artery, Gash, Breeze, Res
wamo #2: HH, Sprint, Rush, Seed, Kiss, Sever Artery, Gash, Res
The guys were from the same guild and doing Ring of Fire bonus for the 5th time as a guildie and I joined them. I was helping the guildie with the bonus and thought "what the hell, I'll invite the wamos for old times sake". Their story was that of four previous failures because the ghost girl kept running into the Mursaat and getting killed. So, this time they decided to keep up with her and keep heer alive.
I was speechless.

So I was taking my new crit/barrage assasin to the temple, and joined a group, saw another a/r, i thought cool this will be fast. I asked him if he was crit/barrage, he said uh, i dunno, so i assked him to ping his build, he said i concentrate on dagger mastery and marksmanship...... and he pinged this:

LOL..help them out then?

Thanks guys you're really making me paranoid. I'll be stressing over my build for weeks now. Luckily I'm the antisocial type so no one's ever seen them.
As for not spending attribute points that's only happened to me once. Late night, levelled up, went to bed, did missions a couple of days later, levelled up again and was bemused as to why I had gained twice as many points for that level.
Maybe he was just screwing around with you? I mean when you level up for the first time the attribute screen pops up. And there's always a spend attribute points tool tip. You'd have to be blind.

Seriously. There's constructive criticism and just calling you a noob. No matter which one you use on some people, the end result is the same. It's quite rare for some one to listen to advice of others in a PUG.

I was trying to do Dunes bonus as well, it's so annoying when you feel like you have to PUG it. I finally got it with a bonder hero, but then it died so I had to redo mission. (Off topic, can someone PM me a way to do it H/H without the necrotic/consume bug?)

I know. And it's not just Guild Wars it happens in. I was playing another game, forget the name, and there was a newbie. He politely asked my help. So I thought, fair enough. I'll help. 3 hours later, I taught him everything. Then it began. He was fighting other newbies and killed them. He started with racist remarks and being outright immature.
Thankfully for the people around me, I NEVER teach anyone every single secret. It's something you learn in martial arts. A teacher must always keep a secret hidden incase of your student turning on you. So needless to say, I crushed his ego and he left.
After that, I'm very selective with who I help like that again.

Well damn I should have taken a screenie, but I'll share the laugh anyway.
PuG-ed Dragon's Lair last night with my guildie. He monked, I played war. 3 wars, 2 rangers, 1 Necro (curses and water magic), and 2 Monks. The second monk was prot, no divine, summoning minions. Fiend, and bone minions, blood of the master. His heal? Take aggro and use reversal. He left after capping shield of regen (thank goodness). The good news, we still completed mission and bonus!
