This is completely true for melee, because they have to get to someone before they can do any damage, giving you time to react. But casters and other ranged attackers can hit anyone that happens to be in there range, which is likely the entire party. And even melees have a tendency to change targets frequently, only hiting each once or twice. Watch what they're looking at. That's who they're targeting. It's your teams' fault if they're bunching up and you can't tell who the real target it. Occasionally, PvE monsters will twitch and change targets, then go back to what they're doing, but for the most part, they tend to stay on their target until circumstances change.

An even better guide is how much their health bar moves up when you use a spell on them. You know exactly how much it heals for and how much their bar moved. Or when they start degenning from a known source, bleeding, poison, disease, Conjure Phantasm, Life Siphon, etc. It doesn't take too much practice to be able to guess someone's health total to within about 50 from watching the bar move.

Bleh, LoD might still be good, but [wiki]protective was kaolai[/wiki] blows it away imho. I have been testing with that one in tombs and it's awesome there with all the AoE damage you have to chew on. I really noticed a big difference when running LoD and I'm most definitely not going to run it anymore.

In PvE you can also stick HP on an off-monk character, necro's have energy to burn anyways, so LoD is right out. Monks have bigger fish to fry then throwing around mediocre 2 sec cast spells.

But why were you spamming it if it was having no effect as no one was under 80%?

What I found in using it is that if my prots were going well LoD never did anything, and if my prots were failing LoD wasn't enough to cover the difference. Its value in spamming was purely psychological - to make me think I was doing something.

The new LoD doesn't have the 80% bar, so it can be spammed, but it still leaves you without any solution against a spike. And as far as a party wide minor heal, it does little more than just spamming Prots alone will do. In a healing bar, I'd want an elite that could cover for a spike, in a hybrid bar, I'd probably want the same thing, and in a Prot bar, I might as well just use ZB.

My thoughts on LoD well I liked the old LoD but this is not to bad in PvE with real ppl useing it however with heros it is not good.It would be best if they used HP with GoLE.I would still like 1 sec. casting time but I can live with 2 sec. I just won't rely on it heavily it would be nice to see heal for more and with a devine favour bonus HP is like this why not LoD.I really like word now can now compete head to head with ZB.It would seem to me the 2 best Monk Elites Night fall are not as great as they once where.

The Difference is in the energy used and recharge.

To Sum this all up you can't build a build centered on LoD alone as with the a build is suppose to be centered around the elite skill.LoD in PvP forget it use HP much better for a party wide heal.
