Couldnt agree with you more. This report function will never be used by me. Im' not going to do the job that anets name filters are to crappy to do. If the name filter doesnt catch it then chances are that any negative meaning is going to be given by the reader. Not the actual definition of the word.... and that's what should matter. You can argue that Azz should be reported, but a name with SEGA in it? COMEON! I have 2 Sega's in my living room, and I play with them all the time.

And by the way. Anet. I find the word Yakslapper to be very offensive. Could you tell me how to report anet for offensive language?

IIRC, from the previous posts, it's an offensive word in Italian. Don't know what would be the equivalent in English though.

i just got temp ban for "I Stole Joras Cherry"... no idea, i like fruit... yet "Zhed Has A Big Xxxx" is fine.... yes it means wand... no i have no idea what anet is doing.... that is my 4th name violation now... one char was 28 months old at time "name found offensive" do they have nothing better to do now then dig up old dirt no one even care about anymore? how bout they focus on fixing the things ppl care about, and leave names alone...

we are letting others decide our names, i have written to ncsoft / anet about name violations i received, including my latest... their reply "we don't argue / have conversations about a character name. if someone reported it as offensive, then they must find it offensive, therefore you must change it." that my friends, is a load of crap! you cannot defend your actions? just as people are seeing / experiencing with the moving money between accounts, anet / ncsoft doesn't care to hear why, just take your ban and live with it, that is the support they are offering now...

guilty till proven innocent? with no defense aloud... so you are just found guilty on reasons of someone doesn't like you?

hey, where in the EULA does it say i am responsible for what others think? nowhere exactly.... it doesnt say "put your mind in the gutter..." no it doesnt... you know there are many children / younger players who saw my cherry name, and had no idea it was dirty at all... that is my point... i am not responsible for what ppl have run threw their minds... my name was 100% not offensive... people take things the wrong way and i get in trouble...

well, Gaile Gray is offenive... Gale = loud / strong outburst, Gray = old... is the game for only loud old ppl.... well maybe that is why people stopped buying the game, cause they felt insulted by the spokes person for the game...

my point is anything and everything could be offensive, and since you cannot defend yourself, i would expect everyone to get some ban at some point... maybe i should log in now and just report everyone everywhere...

If you disagree with this decision and point the EULA, you should probably sue Anet!

You may not be responsible for how others perceive this name, but you should be responsible for understanding that the statement "my name was 100% not offensive" is plain wrong. It's like the above comment on "Sega", look at the link I provided.

In Azagoth's defense, he is from the UK, and might not understand the sexual meaning of the term "I Stole Joras Cherry" as a name. But anybody living in the US not still being bottle fed would probably take bets on when a name like that will end up getting the user a suspension.

Well, I'm neither 18-28 nor am I from the US and as such don't have a clue what's offensive about the word "cherry"! So, does this mean that if I use the word, given that I'm based on Euro servers, I can get banned too? Or is it a case of ANet thinking that the entire World is encased within 50 States?

For instance, let's say I used the word "Cherry" in a name and get banned for it, is that fair considering I have absolutely no idea as how it can be construed as offensive? To me it's nothing more than a drupe!

First of all when in game does Jora have cherries that you would associate that term with her? It was meant to be sexual in nature.

Secondaly Gaile said it doesn't matter if its offensive or not in your language, if its offensive in someone else's language. You might not be aware of this at the time but when its brought to your attention the proper thing to do is change the name.

As for the popping / stealing cherry phrase, I left school over 20 years ago, I live in the UK and it was in common use even then. It's not restricted to the US.

People are way too offended by sex. If max says his character humped Jora (even though, she probably done way before max came in (lol)) then I think it should be totally allowed.

Since you weren't the first one max you should have made the name.. I Poked Jora or Jora Got Done By Me.

Personally I find the terms "poke" and "done" childish and disrespectful, but I'm not going to /report someone based on my subjective opinion of a term that doesn't stretch the word filter.

However it is disingenuous to make a name that is obviously designed to circumvent the word filter and then cry "why????" about it when it gets banned.

I was going to make a Paragon with a name directly referencing the Aasimar subrace from a certain roleplaying game mythos, but I was afraid of getting a slap on the wrist about copyright infringement or somesuch...

Para looked spot-on like an Aasimar though.

Yeah those words are but this game is a childish game made for children (obviously) and you can't use words like sex. Make love maybe, but that's kind of too big. Same with copulate/fornicate etc. I Fornicated With Jora might work but it sounds really odd.

One thing really bugs me about this whole 'workaround the filter' business. Every time somebody says 'WTF' or 'OMFG' in game we all know exactly what they are saying. So according to Anet's own rules they should all be banned.

DOH! No players left to move on to GW2, maybe I should get myself into LOTRO or WOW now. Anet seem determined to shoot themselves in the foot and alienate 90% of their player base, without whom their game wouldn't have reached the stage of rolling out to all these other countries,

Yes, but thankfully A.net's staff isn't a bunch of damn robots, and they understand players and give them some leeway on things like this. They're all internet users/gamers too, after all... and hypocrisy doesn't go over well with playerbases.
