Tyrian Tour Guide! (Cartographer Tips and Questions thread)
Meow Ren
It's worth a shot to try and unfog it from one of the missions but per this post (see post #15 and 16) on the Tyrian Tour Guide, the consensus was that it might be un-mappable.
If you can't unfog it...as previous posters have pointed out there is quite a bit of leeway in Prophecies carto-ing, you don't need a spot that small for 100% if you're careful in other places.
GL though!

I was unable to unfog this square, and I tried it from both sides multiple times.
That said, I basically had a whole zone I hadn't touched when I hit 100% with Tyrian cartography, so you really have a lot of leeway on it.

As I suspected this morning, that square isn't mappable. Usually when there are just little chunks like that they'll go entirely gray after you get everything else around it. You can still see some of the blackness underneath if you look carefully. Here's a screenshot of my Rit's map, which has none of it uncovered:

I can't seem to fill in this tiny little gap in Old Ascalon. I looked at the tour guide and it didn't help. I also tried getting there in Regent Valley and couldn't do it. Any help?

You really don't need to get those super hard-to-reach spots. Tyria provides so much leeway, you can leave plenty of tiny spots unmapped. I never finished scraping the Drok's run (Mainly upper Snake Dance), Iron Horse Mine, Ruins of Surmia, or Ring of Fire, plus plenty of tiny corners. If I remember correctly, you get about Sanctum Cay's worth of leeway.

I am currently stuck at 97.5% on Tyria for Legendary and am this close to throwing the whole thing through the wall , would anyone be willing to do a comparison to a 100% for me please , I used the advice earlier on in the thread but I am none the wiser , call it age or n00bness
Snograt
2.5% is a heck of a lot not to be noticeable with Texmod, Ghengis.
Bet you've missed stuff in the desert, though. I always had problems there. What about the sneaky bits like running past the Charr in Great Northern Wall (plus their little side road on the run back,) the big lump in the Dunes of Despair bonus area and "Rurick's path" in Frost Gate?

I think it's my eyes , there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between covered/uncovered when using texmod , pass me my white stick will you please youngster?
Edit -did the north wall thingydoofer again and got upto 97.6%

How do I get this little corner in the north west of Divinity Coast? I've hugged the walls so much up and down that area well away from the corner trying to get it. If I hug it anymore a blood hound would think I'd turned into the wall. Any suggestions?

I don't have that spot on my Warrior either and I always try to get it every time I go up to do the Wanted quest. Never any luck. Honestly you should simply ignore any super difficult spots like that that drive you crazy. You don't actually need every little bit for 100%, especially not in Prophecies as it has a ton of leeway. I saw a screenshot where someone had 100% but had half of Talus Chute unmapped (and if you're not familiar with that area, it's probably a bit bigger than Divinity Coast). My best advice would simply be to forget that bit and move on - it's probably some really obscure little nook you need to wedge yourself into. No need to distress yourself if you don't have to.

I scraped that area to death and never did manage to get it either

spent ~ 2 hrs scraping/turning/running into walls trying to get this 1 small piece uncovered and no luck.... any suggestions? i've tried from majesty's rest as well...
http://boonce.org/up/map.JPG http://boonce.org/up/zoom.JPG ilr's guide has been pretty helpful for attaining the annoying nooks, but there was no mention of this being a trouble spot. i realize i don't need it for 100% but it's gonna really bug me |

Hey guys, I'm really close to finishing my tyria grandmaster cartographer but there a few places in particular I just can't get at. Any help would be much appreciated
This section appears just below 'The Frost Gate' Mission ^^
The bit at the bottom is just slightly south east of the frost gate start, and the bit in the middle appears in iron horse mine ^^
This is in the Dunes of despair, just can't find a way to get there because there is a closed bridge when I went
Thanks in advance =]

Youll need something like necrotic traversal to map those frost gate spots (google the mission and it will explain how and where to use it.
The second part appears to be the end of the previous missions map (Borliss Pass) you should be able to map it by scraping corners right at the end where the 3 big beacons are blustered (obviously before lighting the last beacon).
As far as the southeast and southwest portions of dunes of despair, once you get to where the bonus bosses are (either by necrotic traversal method or the normal brute force method)...and presumably after youve dispatched the bosses...a must if you dont use necrotic traversal)...you can actually walk "across" both bridges even though they both appear to be up...according to the official wiki misdion page (scroll all the way to the bottom when they talk about "Anomaly".

That Dunes of Despair section was one of the last parts when I did the cart title as well. I just started the countdown and left 2 guys with the ghost and ran off with the rest of my party to that area (2 runs as I got the other side doing the same thing another time). I was able to get most of the area mapped in the 6ish minutes I had before the mission times out.

thanks guys i got it done =]

Got up to 97.7% ,trying to get this done before I start on GW2 , anyone prepared to map compare to help an old infirm man?
Marty Silverblade
If you're having trouble distinguishing the TexModded areas from the mapped areas you could try posting a bunch of zoomed in screenshots of your map (with TexMod enabled) and I'd be happy to draw big red circles around the uncovered bits, if that would help. 2.3% is a ton of unmapped area (not to mention the leeway, which is probably half that again). I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you have missed entire areas.
Ghengis Kwell
Her's a couple to start with :-) is it easier for me to use a hosting site and get more up there? appreciate the help .
Marty Silverblade
When did you download your copy of the carto texture? Perhaps it's just that I'm not at my usual PC and the monitor setup may be different but that is genuinely difficult to see. I recall mine being much clearer than that (especially in the desert, which uses a blue tone rather than the prohibitive brown from that screenshot). Try downloading the most recent version of the texture from the official wiki. Hopefully that should clear up some of the vision issues.
PS: Your main priority is the above but if that doesn't help you're missing:
-three bits along the right side of the thirsty river mission
-one spot in the lower left hand corner of hero's audience
-three slivers along the sides of iron mines of moladune
-three slivers along the right side of spearhead peak
-one bit on the left side of tasca's demise, just outside the entrance area (might be in granite citadel)
Collectively those would probably get you to 98%... I still suspect you've missed an entire area or something.

That map texture looks like you're using a no-fog mod alongside the carto mod. I've never made a transparent version of the mod, so it's either a mod conflict, or you downloaded someones custom version.

Ok so I'm now using the "cartography made easy" to get my cart title. (third time so I'm doing it the easy way now :P) and for some reason I can't seem to open this small area between the Great northern Wall and Piken Square. Any ideas on how to open this?
Hoping I posted this in the right place

It's been several years since having done the cartographer titles, so I'm a little rusty.
Anyway, no offense if you have, but have you mapped all around inside the mission itself?

Ok, so the only place I can think that would include that area is the Great Northern Wall mission. Here's what you do:
- Bring both running and survival skills. Obviously, survival is easier if you're lvl 20 and doing the mission in NM.
- Do the mission up until the cutscene, after which you have to run from the advancing Charr army. You can just run past everything.
- Start running along the path back to Capt Calhaan (as per the normal mission path). Use as many speed boosts as you can to both avoid the enemies and to buy yourself time for later.
- You'll cross one long bridge, and then enter a little "mountain" pass (or "hill" pass, really).
- On the other side of the pass, there's another bridge. At the other side of this bridge is a large gate and the Wall. Don't go across the bridge!
- Instead, turn right. You should see a medium-large group of Charrs running towards you (it's there to kill any players that are too slow in getting to the end of the mission).
- Run past the Charrs, down the dirt ramp they're standing on, and just start exploring that area. Be sure to hit the tan-colored area to the south of that ramp.
- Be aware that this needs to be done quickly, as the timer is still running while you do this, and the mission will fail when the timer reaches 0.

if memory serves.
it is part of the mission
you have to go right before the last bridge to get to it....there is a hoard of char coming that way (so I brought some heroes to give me time to get around)....and the screen shows where to stand to hit it.

I managed to get it. It was partly in the mission like others stated (thank you) and the other part was actually just outside old ascalon up the stairs near the gargoyles lol. Sometimes it's the simplest of things you overlook.
Thanks again everyone for the help.

get to the Falls area? Seems I must have died during the mission, and missed the whole area, while team-mates ran to the cutscene... And now I can't get to it, neither repeat the quest, so now I miss a big chunk of area.
Marty Silverblade
The Falls isn't a mission. Perhaps you're getting confused with The Wilds? In any case, missions can be repeated as many times as you want. Just go back to the outpost and click the Enter Mission button. You don't need to redo the quests that lead up to it (in fact, you don't need to do them at all). Generally speaking, you can't cut yourself off from exploring certain areas. Only the low level arenas and the tutorial area of Nightfall has limited access.
