Tyrian Tour Guide! (Cartographer Tips and Questions thread)

Yeah the last percentages can be difficult. if your worried about viruses with texmod(which probably wont happen) then do it the old fashioned way..hug every wall on every map. Though u wont get 100% this way i think its safe to say that u missed areas in Sanctum Cay mission, Aurora Glade outpost(there is a lil path in the town that no one seems to see), The Great Northern wall mission(when running away from the charr explore where the mobs come from..make take several tries due to time issues), and probably other various areas i cant think of.
If ur going for vanquisher/defender titles just vanquish the area then map 2 birds with 1 stone kinda thing
I have legendary cartographer without using texmod for phrophocies so im just suggesting areas i was missing at the end.
Also, bring some good friends..it makes grinding up on walls fun

bajjen,
at the top of the Prophecies Explorer’s League is this sticky.
It contans all information you would need, somewhere on page 3 I even posted the U-map screens (posting 54 and 55).
Those are far more detailed than a compare of your screen (which is at a very low resolution, which makes it a pain to compare).
Furtermore, while you may think you are stuck at 94%, believe me, everything below 99.5% is relatively easy to spot.
I'm not going to promote Texmod, I like exploration the old-facioned way.
Good luck exploring!

i have question about the wilds(mission) in wiki say that u need to use nercotic travel/consume corp on evenia after u do all that trick to kill her and then to reach in this spot http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Imag...ilds_Cheat.jpg well does it work with a shadow step skill? for example ebon escape
Snograt
I don't think it would - if I remember correctly, shadow-stepping only allows you to "step" to a place that you could otherwise walk to. It's not a true teleportation like [[necrotic traversal] or [[consume corpse].
the_jos
It doesn't. The difference between teleport skills and shadow step is that there must be a real path to the person you step to. It's just a shortcut. Teleports gets you to a corpse, regardless of availability of a path.
Killerminds
Im at 99.6% right now. Is this Fort Koga, and thus not accessible any more?
the_jos
As far as I know it's not explorable anymore, I think it's the old arena indeed.
Good luck with the final .4%.
If you need reference, the U-maps in #54 and #55 (page 3) are about as clean as you can get them on a lvl20 character (no old arena's, no low-level arena's) but I think they don't include the arena at Droknar's which is accessible again by beating the game.

Folks:
What's the best method of scraping? I am currently using mouse and my arrow buttons...or the "R" or "W" buttons. Is another, more effective way? I'm at exactly 99% and have done every area by following the sticky at the beginning of this thread (was at about 95% on my own, so did make it to Master level...) - is there a trick to getting that little bit of shadow right on the edge of the map to clear?
Thanks for the input.

Mouse and WASD for me. The trick is to be really thorough. If there's a shadowy bit that you feel certain can be unfogged from where you are, persist in running into the wall until it clears. Sit there a couple of minutes - try it from all possible angles, just keep trying until it clears or until you're certain that you can't do it from there after all.
ELTQ
Thanks. This is frustrating...I have a feeling that of all the titles I go for, this will be the most difficult...
Snograt
Yes, it's a real pain in the Yakkington.
But oh, so satisfying when you finally hit 100%

Well...up to 99.3% after a few hours of fun today - finally got a last little bit in Dunes, and picked up another .1 in the Ring of Fire Mish. There's still a little spot that's clouded on RoF, so I'm going back in (got killed b/c paying too much attention to mapping...duh!).
After that, I have no idea - I printed up each of the maps and am using them...nothing stands out...guh. Can't wait til this is done...not much fun.

99.6%...found a spot in the upper northeast corner behind Hablion in Bloodstone Fen.
Another spot just after entering The Falls along the southeast wall - a lot of bad stuff to kill, do that first, then go back and map.
.4 to go...

ELTQ,
Good luck with your final .4%.
Are you using Texmod? Any other reference? Or just exploring everything you've not been yet?

Actually - just hit 100% this morning...FINALLY!!!
My Ranger - Eterna Rionne.
What I did was use the list on the first page here and went through step by step...that took me from about 93% up to 99.6%...then I used the maps in posts 53 & 54 on this thread and compared side by side. Ironically that got me to 99.9%. The last two areas I cleared was a mountain at the very south of Arid Sea (east side - you have to be in the corner), and the First path to the right of Abaddon's Mouth - DON'T go to the fortress to attack, take the path to the right when in the mission.
Today is Wednesday - it took me a week of steady playing to get from 93% to the title...
And you're right - I am stoked. Thanks for your assistance!

Drag teh eastern cliff face in Anvil Rock...that will clear out the majority of that area.

I would like to thank everyone who took the time to share there cartography tips in these posts as I just completed my Legendary Cartography title without the use of Texmod. I found the lists of frequently missed locations to be an invaluable tool in helping me find the last 4.1% I needed. I found the majority of it in the missions.
Once again thank you and good luck all.

Congratulations on your achievement.
And it's a pleasure to help, even though the original posting of frequently missed spots is over two years old now

got my 100% tyria few days ago and was very surprised how much left id got to map. this is bang on 100% and look at how much left there is! more forgiving than cantha and nightfall.
so dont be too worried about not managing to get a paticular bit on the map, you'll have plenty over.

Prophecies has a huge amount of leeway. If you get everything as you play through the first time, you'll reach 100% before you reach Hell's Precipice. And that's not counting for us old-timers that hit the pvp arenas before they were shut down just before Factions came out.
Jareth the Cursed
I just got my 100% tyrian cartographer title and I must admit I would've never gotten it if not for texmod, the program is a little messy with my graphics, but sometimes if I minimize the screen and open back up it is fine again.
There are way too many glitched locations that I wouldn't have known about without it where you are walking on mountains that you wouldn't think you could all the way out to the point where the graphics stop.
Few bits of advice, read notes sections on wiki for each area, they can be useful, such as in Frost Gate mish, you need to pull a siege golem to the bridge so he attacks the guys standing with Rurik, then Consume Corpse to get down on his path. Also wiki explains (in the bonus description) that in Aurora Glade mish, you can kill a warthog behind the gate and bypass the gate leaving only the demagogue spawned. Using consume corpse in this way, you can complete exploration, bonus and mission.
Good Luck to all!!!!

I am trying to work out a method to determine which areas I haven't explored. This forum suggests doing a image difference between finished maps and ones own, but I can't seem to find any finished maps. I tried the ones on post 55, but they are scaled differently than my u-maps, and I can't imagine how to scale to fit accurately enough for a usable image comparison.
I'm pretty sure with a map imagemagick can produce a very informative image with the command
compare -metric rmse Ascalon.jpg umap.png results.png
But everything on my u-map is about 10% bigger than the post 55 maps. I've tried changing the working resolution of GW, but this doesn't affect the u-map screenshots (other than making them cover a smaller area).
Could someone point me toward a good map(s) for Tyria?

Instead of changing the resolution, change the interface size. That should bring your maps in line with the size of the existing 100% maps.
Or you can just use texmod, which does it all for you.

I have a small triangle piece to uncover...I tried both abbadons mouth and hells precicpe with no luck of being able to map this..I tried both in the towns and and missions....can someone please help me find this area?
Crystal Lake
Have you tried the outpost in hell's precipice? It could be some little nook there. Otherwise you don't need that for the title.
sykoone
In most cases, those large heavily colored areas are actually pieces that cannot be uncovered, but due to the way the fog reacts, you are unable to see through it. That particular triangle cannot be uncovered.
griffinz
Hi, on the 100% uncovered map I have, the border along Ice Caves of Sorrow and Witman's folly is fully uncovered (no fog). But I've scraped the border from both zones, yet there is still a substantial amount of blur and fog on mine. Why is that?
Snograt
There is fog all over the place, even after 100% exploration. You can never get rid of all of it. Don't know where you saw a fully unfogged map. Look at my 100%+ map...

Maybe they used that mod or another like it.

As I'm not answering to questions or asking one myself, I know I should not post here. but I think this is wirth saying, so please mods be merciful.
I finished my tyrian cartographer today (in reality I hit 99,9% some months ago but couldn't really find the rest) without never ever using texmod. I know with the program it's easier but it's really something doing it all by yourself, the effort is greatly rewarded by pride. And I wanted to say thanks for this guide, some of the most frequently missed spots really helped me.
GL to everyone who still has to complete it and never be discouraged.

Congrats. Anyone who can get 100% without texmod has much more patience than I ever did.

how do I uncover the cutscene area for sanctum cay? this area here in question::
as marked by the yellow arrow. before you say watch the cutscene, i've done that as the leader of the party about four times and it still doesn't move. any thoughts? uncovering that should add some % to the tyrian cartographer title. i'm currently at 99.3% tyrian cartographer title mapped.

Marty Silverblade
You've mapped that area already. The yellow line indicates which part you need to watch the cutscene for.
emptyvoid
no i ment that uncovered area that i pointed at, how i uncover that!?
Marty Silverblade
As I said, you've already uncovered that part. The light grey line is pressed up against the dark grey chunk. If there was stuff to uncover there would be a shaded area like there is for all other unmapped areas. The purpose of the yellow line is to indicate the difference between what can be mapped in the mission and what needs to be mapped by the cutscene.

Sadly I don't know how to help, as the cutscene was watched already...I have no other solution in mind.

thanks Mintha Syl thats what i meant. sadly i'm stuck at: 99.5% with no more unshaded land chucks in sight to find :<
~sigh~ i'm never going to finish. factions was easier with that Eredon Terrace end map trick. does tyria have something like that? i've already tried most of the portal jump areas that could be done with no results.

There is a fair bit of stuff in the Frost Gate mission that you can only access by using teleportation skills of some kind to access an otherwise unreachable path. There is heaps of leeway in Prophecies though, with TexMod you really shouldn't be struggling or having to abuse bugs to get 100%. Just scrape out the bits you haven't done already.
Krazas
Anyone know how map this piece in red circle:
Thx for help.
