Haha, oh god. I don't even KNOW how many of those -50 HP cestas I merched before I found out people were paying ~6k for them.
I merched dye, but never had the pleasure of merching a black one.
My first major character was a healbot. Up until somewhere in Kryta, I carried Bane Sig -- my only non-heal spell -- and sunk all these points into Smite for that one damn skill.
Running builds that were pure attack with no health replenishment or energy management.
But THE dumbest was when my friend and I were both pretty new at the game. I'd gotten a ferry to the consulate docks, but she hadn't. We both had male paragons, so in a moment of brillance we decided I'd buy us BOTH armor! And yes, I really did. I didn't even notice the "customized for..." thing until after I'd made two sets and returned to Kamadan. I still can't figure out why we thought it'd work.

At one point or another, I ran these on my warrior:
Mending
Vigorous Spirit
Balthazar's Spirit
Strength of Honor
Retribution
Live Vicariously
At one point I was running two maintained enchants; that was a stoke of brilliance. Strength of Honor made me do more damage, and Balthazar's spirit gave me more adrenaline. It gave me energy too so I didn't have to worry about running out.

Painting my roughspun hadwraps black.
Hell, it was the first bottle of dye that ever dropped for me, and it was in pre...
Mmmm...seems to be one of the more popular messups.

2 Years ago when i started i have my ele running around with a Pre Axe dyed green and her secondary for the good portion for the game as a ele/ necro... needless to say back then i was really great at minion/aoe.

I salvaged a 15^50 storm bow for a fortitude mod.. it broke.
Jongo River
Deleted a toon with a Kuunavang in his inventory.
I wasn't even that new, but I'd been away while mini-pets were introduced and didn't know they had any value. I'd also only played one toon in Prophecies and not for very long, so I didn't realise the Xunlai box was shared and could be used to save items, before deleting characters...

Deleted a rarely used character recently without stripping their Heros of runes and weapons ~ Epic Fail ~ that was pretty recent too, although I was half asleep at the time.
Death By Ketchup

I love this thread
PvE thing 1: I was terrified of the presearing worms that surrounded me whilst trying to recover Gwen's flute.
PvE thing 2: Trying to solo a hulking stone with my hammer and smite skills around level 5 (I didn't know about henchmen). ...did I mention that I was a Mo/E? yeah... :/
...and I gave a black dye in presearing. Black dye blunders are quintessential evidently.
PvP thing: I thought it would be genius to use my W/me as a heavily armored caster using ether lord for energy management. Not even droks armor in Ascalon arena got that to work.

billy brute
Black dye -> merchant, ecto -> merchant. Peoples usuals
Meat Axe
Surprisingly, I didn't do many terribly noob things when I first started playing. I did run an E/R with a melandru's stalker and spammed flare (I mean, each one did close to 100 damage, and it was spammable! Why not?)
The worst thing I did was a few months ago. I created a monk, since I'd never played one before and I wanted to make one character for each profession. I made my way through Nightfall Tutorial and the first mission to Kamadan, opened storage, and pretty much immediately moved some items on to her so I had some room in storage.
A couple of hours later, I was on the login screen, and I realised I didn't really like the colour of her hair. So, without thinking, I deleted the character. As I hit delete after typing in the name, I realised I had 3 sets of 15k armour stored on her, as well as a couple thousand charr carvings saved up for wintersday. I will never make that mistake again, I can tell you. This was after I heard about the HoM too (it was a month or so before the release of EotN).

Back when it was first launched I gave black dye to my Ex >< Cause I believed him when he said they were useless but it was the color he was looking for D: Infact because I believed him I gave many many Dyes to random people. And all I ever got was black and silver D: I'm still kicking my self for this years later D:
Mitchel
Probably putting Flare on my bar....for 1 week.
oknar
asking to be officer, alot!
Zil
Deleted my (first character) Necromancer, who finished all 3 campaigns, Elite Kurzick, had 93k on her etc. I thought she was my PvP Necromancer...
I never played a Necromancer ever since.
I never played a Necromancer ever since.
Ranger Rog
Exploiting every corpse I could using putrid explosion and bone horrors on my R/N (with no points in any Necro attribute) and wondering why all the Necro's I would party with got annoyed at me.
I once paid 9k for a non max white Stormbow (which I sold for 9k again a couple of weeks later )
Wondering why the text on white and blue weapons didn't change to purple when I dyed then that colour

Dumbest thing I've done is probably running around with heal area on my bar(I'm a warrior). Mostly tanking in SF, I kept wondering how those dwarves managed to live that long until someone told me I was the fool keeping them alive
Mahanaxar
When I first arrived at Yak's Bend with my warrior.
They just introduced the whole Balthazar Factions thing (2 factions per kill, woho), so I went for some PvP in the lev 15 arena.
A couple hours later I ended with 700 factions, thinking it was something really impressive. I was like "I'm gonna unlock so many things with all these points".
Not so excited anymore when I checked the priest, finding that 1000 faction points was the minimum to buy anything.

Equipping 3 Sup-Fire runes on my ele... <_<

i have done loads of noobish stuff, but you learn from your mistakes.
stuff like making a w/n and then dying at the necro mission in pre becuase you werent paying attention and the flame grizler things set off.
making a derv/ele for nightfall.... and setting it to sf nuker.
getting conned so blatently at times. like selling a storm bow for 45g instead of 45k
selling black dye to merchant
salvaging rare materials
deleting a failed survivor char in rage then realised i forgot to remove all her stuff and hero stuff (cost me about 300k that mistake!)
selling high end weapons for low end prices, i still do that now as its so hard to sell anything mediocre now ingame.

Queenie
I remember one of my old Christie's (I've had like 3 now!)
When I was getting her through Prophecies I had this +15hp shield from pre. Had it all the way though the game (even ascension) twas funny ._.

oh and a mate of mine managed to finish hells pricipe with his starter armor (he was a monk at the time)
RiKio
Bought the Thorgall Bludgeonhammer for 14k
themickman
As a w/mo, i beat the entire prophecies campaign with more smiting skills on my bar than any other attribute . . .
Mordakai
I've had bad luck with Black Dye (and this is back when it was actually worth something)
Selling my first Black Dye drop to a merchant (what do you mean it's worth over 10k??)
Much later, got scammed selling 4 black dye (the old "Plat to Gold" switch, with me hitting accept too eagerly)
Dumbest thing I've done skill wise: I kept casting Illusionary Weakness on my high-death penalty Mesmer, and couldn't figure out why she was dying!

Everything I do is the dumbest thing I do.
I just get progressively worse.
So umm, I'd say Trying to sell ecto for 8k each.
Fortunately someone bought it >.>

I was pretty noob >.<
1) I was scared of going outside pre-sear ascalon because i thought the wurms would kill me.
2) Sold black dye/ecto to the merch.
3) Making a wamo -_- (12 swords, 9 smite, 9 heal)
4) trying to sell a 4-6 dmg sword in post-sear ascalon
5) thinking pre-sear was the whole game, imagine how surprised i was when i got to post sear
That's about all I can remember for now...

I was a good n00b and read the first GW manuscripts before playing: "Need one more player in your party? Hire a henchman" (106). I didn't use hench for a week b/c I thought I'd have to pay for them to join me.
Kahlindra
I rage-turned-off my PC the first time I died because I thought I would be crap compared to everyone else because I had -15% health and energy.
AWWWW I adore myself!!
