Wintersday 2007 Hats
* Here's a special opportunity to get this year's Wintersday hats! Simply log into Guild Wars, visit a Festival Hat NPC, and ask him to make you either or both of the 2007 hats: the Wreath Crown and the Ice Crown. Once you've done that, the Festival Hat NPC will record your new possessions, and you can retrieve your crowns at any time. You can take advantage of this offer through Noon Pacific (-8 GMT) on Tuesday, January 8, 2008.

I stayed up late on the last day of my holiday vacation, only to find out now all these NOOBS can get hats and act like they were part of a major event in GW history, when they're just freeloading off ANet?

Although I don't really care or felt "like I wasted time" by being AFk (I mean you guys, seriously?), but I would like to know the reason behind it, only for my curiosity.
Seems kinda random, and without purpose to me. Even the dragon festival requires the jade thingys to trade in for one. Just curious thats all, is there something I missed?

sigh, well at least they did TRY to do something nice for the people that got messed up with the lag and stuff-----so good effort anet....but for those of us who stayed up/got up every 3 hours just to get lagged off/skipped x to do this....

It is a nice gesture. I understand the reasons for not giving out hats from previous years, but last years wintersday was also affected by earthquakes so maybe adding 2006 hats would have been nice to do also.

Like I said though, this is a very weird thing to me, as I haven't had a single problem during the event, and I played through it? I didn't experience a rollback nor did I have lag...

Now I wanna know why THE HELL I could not have hats like the first wintersday ones (because I visited LA on the 31 and not on the First, my mistake) and the second Halloween ones (witch hat...how could I loose that). I want them. Now!
I't totally unfair, why did I waste time on the First when I could just get them by talking to a NPC any time of the day? THIS is the worst thing they could do.

Stop QQing people (hopefully a lot of those that lost their hat in the "Lag Festival where your net connection is frozen" will now be happy and I'm ahppy for them!), it's starting to get really annoying to hear people being so exclusive. And don't start on the "effort" thing, it took NO effort to get the hat, just had to be there.

I dislike this update because they appear to have removed all the npc's at the same time, without giving any notice or warning to us.
It is a nice gesture to get the hats for free, but frankly, who cares? They were fugly anyway, i'd much rather have hats from other events.

This thread bothers me, though. I attended the event twice to get both hats, and it doesn't hurt me in the least. (One of them was at 3 AM!) My hats aren't cheapened or lose value because some active players that were unable to, or lost their hats for whatever reason, can get them in a short time span after the fact.
Let's remember the "Wintersday Spirit" (Dwayna-oriented). You could always be Grenth-oriented, but somehow, I doubt Grenth would be having Wintersday festivals at all if he had the opportunity.
That is, the entire event is a gesture of goodwill to the community, and acting like something was taken from you over Anet performing another act of goodwill towards others is completely nonsensical.

it's ok. it'll be like the razah quest. at that time you spent gems to get him, and they refunded them back afterwards. with this one they'll give you a 10 minute quest to get back the time you spent standing there waiting for a hat. You'll soon see your time played in the game decrease, don't worry.

I'd have less of a problem with what their doing if it wasn't for the fact that I can imagine the person at ANet who came up with this idea sitting around smugly thinking "What a job well done" when the hats were far from the only issue in the event. Plus the removal of NPCs. What is this?

To QQers: it's so unfair to blame Anet while Gaile explained on this forum that the problem was probably not due to them but to a network provider near their LA center.

Then I took ten minutes to AFK my char in on hat, then three hours later I spent 5 minutes setting up another character, and for fun instructing everyone they must jump to win. Oh how I like messin with people.

That seems to be a very negative attitude you got there. You got your hats, be grateful that you have them. Some people mightn't have had the oppertunity to get them on wintersday finale, so now they have a second chance, and if someone didn't bother getting one and gets it from the hat trader? So what? Let them. This is a game, don't take it so seriously.

I think this a great idea personally, a lotta ppl lagged out before they got the hat, i even missed out on the wintersday gifts to get one . Its different this year because not everyone got a fair chance to get a hat.

Because this time there were a lot of people who attended the event, who were there but thanks to a foul-up on Anet's side did not get their hats.
This isn't about people who missed the event being able to get the hats, but to make sure that those who were there, who took the time to go online on jan 1st. gets them (if they want them.)
Guess that making them available to anyone - even those that weren't there, is just the fastest and easiest way to achive that.

Don't see what people are fussing about, there were some massive lag problems in certain districts, particularly in Europe causing people to lose everything that happened during that event when they reconnected. Not everyone can stay online all day to attend the event, and if they missed their one chance to get the hats because of server problems, it's not really their fault. It's not like they're giving out '05 hats here.

Hell I was in La and kamadahn, on an internet that was almost nothing (charter had a problem and on a 5mb service I was lucky to connect at 25kpbs) and I got my hats and participated in the events.
