The whole point of these Collector Items is they are only available once... you miss it, you lose. It's the same idea behind the Collector's Editions.

Why is it so hard for people to handle A-net's effort to compensate people who lost out on getting their hats because of a TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY? Just because it doesn't benefit people who did get their hats in no way harms them, either.
For those whining about "having to stay up late" to get the hat, 3 things:
ONE - Log into game, select district, leave game running, go about your business (this is known as going "AFK", or "Away From Keyboard").
TWO: this update is unprecedented and no one could have forseen it. There are many, many other people who stayed up late to attend the event and aren't complaining.
THREE: The only benefit you could get by staying up to be active during an event (as opposed to going AFK) was to gather up presents. Those getting their hats through the festival hats guy aren't going to be getting any presents and the ones who lagged out still lost the presents they had.

OK I think this is GREAT of Anet. I dealt with the lag, 007s etc multiple times to get my hats. I STILL think this is great. Number of my guildies and friends couldn't get through the lag to get 'em and I'm happy they can
I don't see what these "Omg all the ones I missed before QQ" crap is...get over it. First year I was only home in time for 1 hat, I chose the horns. I have every hat including the tengu except the 1st santa hat.....O well. Move on. Doesn't somehow ruin this gesture.

Mostly I just dread the excuses people are going to cook up in an attempt to get other event items they missed out on, and now they have a reasonable argument: "Well, they've done re-issues before..."
I don't really care. I wish I'd known that I could've slept in, but in all honesty? I would've stuck around for socializing and presents regardless.

Allowing access to an event helm was already precedent through the helms that required use of a Collector NPC. Yes, this is the first time Anet has done it for an event that required attendance, but it doesn't suggest that Anet intends to release any other previous event items.

I think it's a lame idea, people had nine chances to get the hat. I sat there threw the lag and got the hat’s. If others can't do that and want everything for doing nothing then they can stop with the events.

well, I missed the event but now have got my hats, and after getting them... ah, phew... they stink. I appreciate the hat offer, but wow..
a) how useful is a hat really (I mean, how many can I wear at once.. and when)
b) they lack the 'uber' cool feature of the other hats (like a santa cap, pumpkin head, etc.)

Many players, specially in European servers, had spike lags, lost connection, and came back to vanished hats. I have been to every single event in *GW history* since the game started, and none ever had the horrific lag we had this time. I personally did not lose my hats, but I do know players that did. The fact that their hats vanished does not make them noobs. ANET is stepping up to the plate, and they realize the lag was on their side and this is a perfect way to correct the problem.
Last year, they knew some players were unable to attend the festival due to an earthquake. Once again, they stepped up to the plate, and made it possible for those players to enjoy the hats and gifts.
I admire the fact that ANET is trying to accommodate players that were unable to get these items not because the chose not to go, not because they forgot, not because the bought the game after the festival... but because of a major catastrophe or server problems on their side.

all the events tend to be laggy.... but for me, this one was just the worst. I couldn't even pick up most of the gifts.

I had to attend three finales, as my first one, in LA dist 123, did not have the event - apparently the rumor that dists created after the event starts in dist 1 don't get it is true.
I also had suffered lag and whatnot during the present drop. The rollbacks, I did not experience any, though I feel the pain of the others.

Honestly I don't think there was any provider issues that caused the event lag as much as they had shut servers down due to the lesser amount of people playing as of late.
Alot of people have stopped playing the game and you can tell by the normal amount of districts in LA and Kamadan. Compare last Nov's districts to this years districts.. at least 4 districts down this year.

I hate when Anet does things like this, even tho the majority gets what they want, i don't, and i don't give a dam about the majority tbh.
If i attend an event to get a hat, i do it because i want that hat to mean something, even if it looks like crap, when anet then gives every other schmuch in gw the opportunity to get it after the exclusive time announced, i just feel like i wasted my time even attending the first time.

I have to say this is a very nice gesture on Anets part and I definately applaud them for it. It's always nice to see people wandering around in the hats becuase they bring back such fun memories of festivals past . Though it's not completely unprecedented, they did Reduex() an entire holiday event this past year for those who had the same sorts of problems at that festival.
Though I have to admit, it is a bit disappointing to me. On one hand, you have people, like Gaile for instance, saying that Anet should never, and will never, allow people to have a second chance at getting earlier hats (such as '06 Halloween or Wintersday hats) no matter what the circumstances were of your inability to attend. And then they do this for, I would imagine, a relatively small group of people who weren't able to attend more than one out of nine seperate events and were rolled back on the single event they attended...?
I wouldn't really have an issue with it if they stuck by one principle and stayed with it, but it seems like this issue is sort of hit or miss. Weren't able to attend Halloween '06? Stinks to be you. Give me a break, a hat is a hat is a hat. In this case a free one. A free hat in an online game. How can you talk about "earning" a free online hat, and moreover, how can you talk about the "unfairness" of receiving one after an event? Big deal! Be happy if you got a second chance to get one if you wanted to get it and couldn't attend the event. If you already had one, grow a pair and move on (or alternative go complain in another thread how crappy this free online hat was and how this community "deserved" so much better). Sorry, I'm working late tonight and I'm a tad cranky. Does it show?
