Trinity of the Ascended [ToA]

I like the whole RP feel so I choose things from various places that are relevant. For example, my Elementalist is Aule Illuvatar, both names from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarrilion, Aule the master of Elements and Illuvatar the greater god figure.

Others include my Rit, Pneuma Facio, who depending on your translation is "Spirit Maker" or "Breath Giver," my Dervish Dove Magor Missabib which in Hebrew is "terror all around you." My Sin is Jin Hwoarang, both from Tekken, as I needed a very oriental name. Looking back, I wish I had named him something in Japanese like my new monk Tenrai Seirei, "divine spirit" in Japanese.

Most of my character names come from there, and each one has an underlying meaning.

Yep... I'm a nerd...

Same here. I sometimes mix stuff I find there with last names that people might actually have today. For example, my derv is Ithai Elam. Ithai came from somewhere in the site, I think. And Elam was a reference to the kicker Jason Elam who is now with the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL.

X the Y

IE:
Spirit the Sadistic (warrior)
Kuun the Furious (Ranger)
Vassago the Reaper (Derv. I know it's cliche, but I don't care)
Kari the Zealot (Sin)
Nia the Proud (Imbagon)

the only ones who break the pattern are my ele (Raptor Hater), my PvP characters, and my old original male warrior I keep around for chests and minipets.

I used to go by my favorite character from a novel called "Fortress in the Eye of Time" named Barrakketh Kingbreaker.

However after I lived in Hawaii and learned bits of the language, I started using Hawaiian words for my names.

Kumu Honua means Origin of the Earth as a direct translation.

Sometimes I have to search for different words as they don't fit or require multiple apostrophes or are repeated sections of a word like Kahakahana or I simply don't think they would make a good name.

I go about with names from different nationalities; a couple of Japanese names, a couple of Hebrew names, a Baltic name, and an African name. I have three novelty names; one pertaining to a bell (would you believe) from a novel, a song title and a lyric from a song.

I tried to make an Indonesian character as I'm half that, but it just sounded silly.

Oh well.

Also, I used to just have 'Mademoiselle <name>' for a lot of characters, but I got constant PMs from people asking if I was French. Haha.

Some character names:

Mesmer: Kaede Tsukishiro
Mesmer 2: I Nihil Morari I (Yeah, I's. Shoot me.)
Elementalist: Doctor Fahrenheit
Ritualist: The Binder Saraneth
Necromancer: Aija Nazarov
Dervish: Ajene Minkah

Well, First of all, all my names start of Count or Countess (Obviously based on their gender). That's based off an interesting tidbit of family history we found out about several years ago. so;

Count Operoe; First character, so a fantasy/RPG form of my online gaming name, Operative.

Count Darktan; My Warrior; the name of a leader in a book I was reading at the time authored by Terry Pratchett.

Countess Reapera; Dervish, A more feminine form of reaper.

Countess Oriona; A ranger, a feminine form of Orion (with a pet named Scorpious ).

Countess Nekhbet; A Paragon, name of Egyptian Goddess of aid and something else that fit.

Countess Aurumluna; Based off a character made by a friend whose name is Goldmoon, so Latin for Goldmoon is Aurumluna

Countess Aneiontei; Again, made to copy a friend whose name was Shadowstep, so the Japanese translation for Shadow-Step is Anei-Ontei. However for this particular form of the translation step, it references a musical step, not a walking motion.

In my opinion, names are good when they transcend from absurd all the way to surreal

Elementalist: Valet Parking
Necromancer: Gwen Ate My Socks
Ranger: Dances With Noodles (with pet tiger Noodles)
Dervish: Shave And A Haircut
Assassin: Love And Stitches
PvP slot: Freudian Glide (like a slip but with gusto)

I'm still mad that I lost Mind The Gap (mesmer) shortly before Factions when I was temporarily short of character slots to keep names reserved

I also hope that whoever got Happy Hour before me had the decency of giving the name to a sin (two stiffs at the price of one!)

I would get a normal sounding first name and look up something in the Latin dictionary for the last name.

most of my names are nods to either david eddings or roger zelazny. with the exception of my main, who got a gag name, from me being somewhat less than sober at the time...

Laughing Bat: Well according to a baby book my mom got my real name means "Laughter" and I tend to find most things funny. I've always loved bats hence Laughing Bat.

The Bat Who Laughs: An alternate to Laughing Bat based on "The Man Who Laughs"(an old book/movie)

The Bat in the Hat: At the time I was watching my bro and niece most of the day everyday and they wanted to watch the cat in the hat over and over, so when I needed a new name this one popped in my head lol.

If I have a funny name come to mind, I use it. Otherwise I go with a random name, usually based on favorite songs (The Great Below) or characters (Gemma Masters).
