Make items dropped in HM inscribable in all campaigns.
AshenX
I would like to see weapon drops in Prophecies and Factions be inscribable. If not all of the time then at least in HM. Some of my favorite weapon skins (such as gothics, jades, ambers, etc.) are extraordinarily rare in inscribable versions despite the fact that the weapons are not really that rare in their respective campaigns.

the general consensus is no, old school>new inscription crap

No, that is 'some forums' consensum.
Almost ANYONE I asked ingame says that Prophecies and Factions drops are 'merchant crap', with those exact words, just in different 5 languages.
Inscriptions worldwide is MUST.
- Without Inscriptions:
*Prophecies
*Factions
*Realms of the Worlds.
- With inscriptions
*Nightfall
*Eye of the North (Havng many skins from all previous campaigns)
*Battle Isles (Haing ALL skins from all previous campaigns)
Since inscriptions are part of the PvP system, that makes them CORE, and being a core System, it MUST be worldwide, just like Insignia.

why change what isn't broken? and if prophs and factions drop suck 90% of the time like everyone that complains, wouldn't be finding a 15^50 TYRIAN weapon make it all the better? or is everyone just that lazy and rather have inscription crap 100% of the time, as opposed to an actual rare drop?
EDIT:also ask those in game players when GW was its best. I guarantee most will say back when it was just prophs or when factions was introduced. notice there was no inscriptions then and no one complained about crappy worthless drops

No one buys a fellblade 15^50 when they can get an inscribable one.
Only those that cling to the old prices and values say that.
But if you go to an outpost and see what people usually buy or sell, you'll see that when you let someone choose between an inscribed Storm Bow, most of the time they will get the Storm Bow, becuase if they anytime decid to change the 15^50 for a +5 energy, they CAN.
And even more if they are cheaper.
People no longer pay for rarity, pay for usefulness and skins.
Since the Zaishen Chest and the GW:EN drops have almost any skins inscribed, the drops in Factions and Nightfall are worthless.
There is almost nothing you can't get inscribed, but the things you get in Prophecies and factions are just almost useless most of the time.
Shields with only one property and without upgrade slots, weapons with requirements to one attribute and properties for other, items with properties that cannont be matched with inscriptions and upgrades in PvP, becoming slightly unbalanced, req 7 and 8 perfect weapons...
Who would pay for 'rarity', when such rarity no longer exist, and the only thing that can be seen is the skin.
Would you go 'trade' with all the people in th party so anyone see that it has a fixed 15^50 modifier?
Ha!
Clinging to old things.
That's all.
Cling to the price they had to pay for a puny 15^50 Item and now they can's stand they can be obtained much easily.
No, no. More inscriptions so more combinations can be made.
But inscriptions worldwide.
No inscriptions is only a problem.
The new system is inscriptions, and it's core, and it should, no, it MUST be worldwide.

tyrian prices > inscrip prices
as for the idea:
It would be nice, but I won't care if they don't implement it.
Tho Anet always wanted to have the good/nice looking stuff available for everyone. So it would make sense to do this.

Yeah, you may get more gold from one of those fixed mods things.
But while you'll get sold 1 out of inscribed 100 drops for 1..10k, you won't sell more than 1 out of 1000 non-inscribed drops, and only to those that are also confused with the old system, and only because those that sell them won't sell them for less, because they also cling to the old system.
You can recognize them, because they spend much more time selling one single item, and tend to put 'no noob prices' in their party panel descriptions.

They spend there time trying to rip people off. WTS Cruel Axe haft 1.5k. WTS req 10 inscribable Long Sword 100k+15 ectos.
The fact is... people "sell" at those inflated prices all the time. But VERY FEW people buy. 50-80% of the trade spam in any given day is a rip off with highly inflated prices.
The reason you should rely on forum and auction prices is because that is where buyers go to find things (because its easier to search for specific items)... not sellers.
Yawgmoth
No please no.
In the first place inscribable items should have never been added to the game.
All possible droppable Tyrian and Canthan skins already have inscribable versions. Do not nerf the good oldschool versions, they should still drop in all modes.
But as they already are in the game anyway and no way to get rid of them I have an idea. It's the way it should have been done in Nightfall aswell, that the vast majority of items should drop non-inscribable, but a small % of them could drop inscribable (inscribable = perfect at will, it shouldn't be common as dirt as it is now).
1. Only gold items should have a possibility of dropping inscribable, so there's no blue/purple perfect item nonsense.
2. the chance for getting inscribable gold should be 0-10% in normal mode and 10-20% in hard mode
3. the chances for inscribables could be higher depending what they drop from, example: x2 chance from bosses, 25-50% chance from end of dungeon chests, 50-100% chance from elite chests like hoh, zaishen, end of uw/fow/deep...

But it doesnt really matter to me.

not to mantion the fact that req7 max items dont drop with inscription slot...

Some people didn't wanted insignias worldwide. This is just the same.
I can't agree with this thread, since it as for inscriptions just in Hard Mode, and they must be added in all modes, even in presearing. It's the new system. that's all.
I haven't still read one single reason not to make inscriptions worldwide.
"Because my expensive item would be devalued" it's not a reason.
And more or less, that's has been the only reason put forward so far.
Inscriptions are:
- More versatile, since they can be used by varios tipes of items.
- More useful, since they allow more combinations and keep a skin you like even if you change builds to need other combinations.
- More balanced, since they do not allow combinations that can't be made via PvP item creation panel.
GW has no more skill gems, no attribute point buy, no more evade, no mre armors with stats fixed to the skin.
GW goes forward. Anything against it, it's just cling to less useful annoying system.
Now, if you put in a plate of a scale "Because I can get more cash from a single lucky drop" and "Because I can use at least 5% of the drops I get" in the other. Which one is more important?
Greed or Logic? Which one should win?
Such discussion could go for ever.
But no matter how many times they try to defend the old system, they can't ague anything but 'cash'. "My stuff would devalue". Well, sorry, this is Guild Wars. It's more important the use people give to the stuff that their price stored in the Storage.

"I don't like it" isn't a valid reason either. So... I will ignore the useless 'fail' posts and politely ask again.
Please. I'm just asking for a single valid argument against versatility, balance, retroactivity, accessibility to all players and logic.
Just one that is not "I don't want to", "I liked the old most", "I hate inscriptions", "I would lose/get less cash" or "I would have to make again all my post in selling/auction forums" or any illogic "I want GW to be like WoW/Lineage/Diablo II/Whatever" arguments.
Nothing? Oh... ok. Fine. I'll be around here. Waiting.

The Urgoz/Deep inscribed drops are one clue pointing to that.
I hope it's the same day weapon/off-hand upgrade traders come, definitely matching a bit more PvP and PvE.
In my two years playing, I haven't ever seen a Strenght req9 Shield with a certain skin with the properties I wanted. Not ingame, not yielded by others, nor in forums or selling pages.
Even if you wanted to say 'if you can't get the drop, just buy it from other players', even that argument isn't valid, since the old system has so low chances of getting good combinations that getting the one you want is... welll... specially with offhand items...
You'll have to specialize in limits, to graps such figures.
Someone wanting to get more cash from a single drop it's a reason strong enough to keep other players from getting better use from their own drops.
The inscription system has been probed already useful, specially strongly limiting the "King of the Hill" behavior in market.
Even if the price for adding inscriptions worldwide is to decrease the drops rates of many skins so they become more rare. Like... those Tetsubo hammers.
I have seen one only once. Very rare, very rare... even if they turned to be more rare, it would worth it to add inscriptions.

tetsubos aint that rare, you can buy them for fairly cheap as well
back on topic, theres no reason to make those 2 games have inscription drops
its more fair and balanced? this doesn't make any sense
the drops have been the same for 2+ years now and theres no reason to change something that isn't broken. this isn't a it will devalue my item thing, im sure anet wont waste anymore time on gw1 than they have too. changing 2 year old game mechanics wont bring in more revenue and is thus pointless, if you want certain items go craft them from collectors instead of complaining you dont get perfect drops

It's like giving all cars interchangeable parts, so that an engine that's uniquely BMW is now quite blandly a Toyota.
You do understand that inscriptions helped to put a bullet between the eyes of the GW economy, right?
You can't see me
Fact is, the many updates and changes to the game made everything like the Sephis Axe (wow, that was once rare?), the Serpent Axe, etc, worthless, and the top 5% had nothing to spend their money on, so they now turn to what they name "Old School" items. Taking that away from them would make them turn emo, and probably quit or cry, or both.
However, it cannot be denied by anyone with half a brain to realize a weapon with an inscription slot is far more convenient than a weapon that does not have one, hence their popularity among people who don't want to spend insane amounts of money on a weapon with the same skin that has a permenant base mod.
As for changing them all, I'd be either way, since it really depends on your point of view. As for posting messages that contain nothing but the word "Fail", I laugh at the irony.
That would be a far more useful statement if we were debating taking the inscription system out of the game, but as the damage is already done, there's no use pointing it out. As for the "Economy", could it get worse at this point? Probably not.

2nd, its not about epeen, its just a pointless thing to do, im sure they have their hands full with every pvp player bitching about skill balances and every pve player bitching about loot scaling or ursan
all in all, the games are 2 years old,and if they were to switch it, im sure they would have done it along with the armor update, so who cares

Oh, another thread about this.
We can already get all those items inscribable from GWEN and the Zaishen Lottery Chest.
I still wonder how people can argue non-inscribeable items "save the economy" (!) and want Cantha and mainland Tyria stay in the Dark Ages where 99% of shields and weapons go to the merchant.

Better just not change anything, at this point it can be only worse. Don't touch good old Prophecies/Factions. I strongly prefer the ability of getting something worthwhile once in a while than getting only tons of inscribable crap and nothing else.

Why make drops worse in Tyria/Cantha HM compared to NM. If this happens, non-inscribable weapons will get rarer and cost more...

All the players I know that bought Nightfall first, and then Faction or Prophecies, got astonished watching the rate of useless drops.
Rarity should be about skins, about be killing averywhere around the world, and getting once in a while, while playing normally, a drop that could be used and bought by anyone. Not about endlessly killing hydras until you get something remotely usable, that only those that agree with that old-fashined Diablo-like style of drops would buy.
Let's take the most common sword skin:
- Longsword.
It's skin rarity is... well... NOTHING.
Most monsters spit them like if they were watermelon seeds.
Now... would you pay more for an uninscribed purple 14%^50HP longsword or an inscribed gold long sword?
A normal person, with average IQ and that can use logic thinking, would choose the gold one with an inscription slot, regardless of the inscription.
1. Because it's gold.
2. Because it can be upgraded much better to fit what you want.
3. Because the skin is not rare, and it drops after killing a few monsters in most places.
When you 'ping' the weapon, no one sees if it is inscribed, or gold. They only can see the skin and two of the upgrades.
Nothing else.
So... such 'rarity' that some claim does not exist, because in guild wars, a game where the items have with limited maximums, rarity comes only from the skins, and trying to push more 'rarity' would be only artificial.
On top of that, what is rare for some, it may not be for others.
ALL hammers have Damage(Usually blunt) and Hammer req, but the inherent modifier Proph/Fact drops come with, it's not fixed like the base properties.
If you buy a hammer, you know that it will have damage and req. If it is gold, you know that it's more probable that those damage and req being 'maxed'.
They are not base, and people usually tend to save to sell only the ones that can be sold for more.
So... what if you want a +15%(Stance) modifier? Or a +20%(While hexed) Or any other modifier that usually people discard?
Since we have limited storage, and people tend to save only the items that can be sold for more, if you want something less usual, you end up stuck with that you won't get the drop, and people won't sell the drop.
With inscriptions, that does not matter, the base properties are always the same, and you can modify the variable ones with upgrades.
Without them, you end up with items that have 'fixed variable modifiers'. Look, an Oxymoron like the Great Dwarf.
The rare skins are still rare, and if they are not, that's a problem with the drop rates, not with the inscriptions.
And I'm still waiting for a single reason not to make the core Inscriptions systems worldwide.
