If pugs are so bad, then how did you meet your guildies?

I disagree with the premise of the original post.

It is very possible in GW to meet friends or Guildies by coming across one or two good players at a time and making a full party with them and 5 or 6 Heroes. Which is not a traditional PUG by any stretch. And playing in traditional 8 man PUGs is definitely not ever required to amass friends with this method.

2 good players and 6 Heroes are a million times better than almost any PUG. So unless the definition of PUG changes to "2 men and 6 Heroes equals a PUG", then the idea that PUGs are necessary to meet friends/Guildies is incorrect.

Everyone starts out somewhere, you use pugs until to find some good ones. Then you inquire about their guilds and if it sounds interesting. Theres also guild advertisements in local all the time, I would have thought that to be the most obvious answer...

first guild was a shitty random pug guild. Then I joinned SNOW years ago before they became the 100 man elite PVE juggernaut they are today. Then I needed a change of scenery and seeing as TAM recently left our alliance, I joined them.

I've only been in a few guilds but the progression seemed to happen like...

RL friends -> Met New Guy -> New Guy introduced me to a guild leader -> Joined that guild -> Drama -> joined guild in alliance -> split guild to form a new guild with friends from the former guild

I go to early spots in the game and try to help others with a quest or 2.I ask if they would like to join a friendly guild like mine which we are.I find it will be getting harder.

I met my Guild Leader before he began playing Guild Wars. We both belonged to the same clan based around another game. When I started playing Guild Wars, I naturally decided to join his guild.

Well, when people first join the game they will pugs so that's why they are noobs. Once a player has gone through the game once, I doubt they would wanna PuG again. That's why no1 PuGs...I for one don't wanna party with noobs...

First guild: Sorrow's Furnace farming with some PvE types, scooped up as a PUG player by a regular farming team.

After that: networking. You get invited to a regular HA group and do your job(s) well, a player that fills in sometimes invites you to a (better) group that he/she regularly plays with, etc. You get to know people well and eventually get guild invites, which you accept or decline.

Works the same way in PvE; there is less mingling between guilds, but you still play with other peoples' friends from other guilds if you play in areas with a lot of traffic (Deep when popular, DoA, FoW, UW).

PUG players fail as a rule, but there is variance. Groups running a PUG player or two can still succeed; you can tolerate more PUG players than that in PvE.

Groups that are comprised entirely of PUGs almost always result in epic failure.

A good chunk of our guild was founded/made by people we knew from a fan forum for author Terry Goodkind. It was a holding guild when we left our old guild due to "inactivity" >_> Yeah, thats what we will call it...
<_<
So we made our guild, told our forum friends, they hauled a$$ from their guilds or became guilded for the first time since getting the game....

They brought guildies with them and some liked to pug... Then it was the forums and such... A few small guilds were consumed by us. We just, grew!

First guild I joined I met in HoH. I happened to get a spot in their guild group, we held HoH for a while, and they invited me to join the guild as one of their lead rangers.

Second guild was from a random invite in HzH. Ended up hitting it off with the members and stuck with them for a while. Made a close friend in it who kind of was like an ambassador for another guild in the alliance. When he left to join his original/real guild, I followed. Then we left that guild because the leader decided to let it die out, and a friend of ours created the one we're in today.

One of the members Decided to create a GW guild with his GF and posted pics of the game in our forums. Afer a while I decided to test the game after seeing him play this wierd RPG game the whole time in xfire inmstead of joining us in CSS. One year and a bit later, were still all together and joined together with a few other PvE guilds in an alliance. And Ive joined the circles of GW-players anonymous

Something tells me they aren't as leet as your making them out to be.
When you joined a small guild and it grew to full membership over time, you could call it a juggernaut.
Full guilds with some turnover function very different from guilds where everyone knows each other personal.

And what makes a PvE guild 'leet'?
There are so many guilds with so many different focus points that it's hard to say who's leet and who's not.

My first guild consisted of my family and friends, with some random invites to people that we pugged with. Mostly we played together, but sometimes if someone showed good playing skill in a pug, or seemed like a nice person looking for a guild, we'd invite them.

After that guild became rather inactive, I joined a new guild through a friend I'd met on the forums here. I drew a commission for him, and we kept in touch even afterwards with me joining their guild for occasional missions and vanquishes. So it was a natural choice to change over when the time came.
If, for any reason, I started looking for a new guild, I'd do it through friends or Guru. I don't trust random invites or pug groups - most of the guilds in GW seem rather haphazardly put together, and usually only the newest guilds without good, strong friendship bonds or know-how of the game are the ones spamming local for new members.

I joined a guild of RL buddys and stayed in that guild even went on to lead for quite some time. Most of my RL buddys quit playing and i went searching for a new guild. Found ZoS and plan to be there tell GW2 doth come. Amen.

On the subject of pugs. We recruit good players from pugs, Mostly pvp pugs as my guildys Heros tend to be better then PVE pugs anyday. Hero with full runes and sup vigor and a good build is a better choice then 90% of pve pugs.

btw: Tam's wiki page makes me giggle. Funny stuff..

Oh hey, Jeremy

I found the Zealots of Shiverpeak through a few web searches. I checked the Guild of the Week listing for a few PvE/PvP guilds, cruised around the wikis, checked out the websites, and thought that ZoS would be a friendly and mature enough place for me. Talked to a few officers, did a few runs, and I've been there ever since.

Guru Zealots FTW....My RL buddy called me yesterday. Says he's starting the old guild up. I wouldn't leave my current guild (unless ejected via a small nuke) And I told him it was going to be a up-hill battle to rebuild a guild these days. Just too many run of the mill PVE guilds recruiting out there. Even recruiting with pugs they won't stay if the guild is small or inactive. Owell. Worst of his problems is a AFK for 2 months leader...(where's the small nuke when he needs one?)

I think his only hope is to smack his other buddy's untill they drop WOW and get them active. Or train newbies from presearing on and build there guild loyalty. XD thats a pain thou......

i was searching online for info on GW and the first place i found was a forum which had all the info i wanted, pics of all the armors, stats etc, guides walkthroughsand all such stuff.
I started posting on the forums, and as my in game experience grew, along with my knowledge base, i realized i dont have time to recruit , etc, to get my own guild going, so i gave my guild to my second account and joined the guild of theis forum i had been visiting, which it turns out, is probably the second most visited GW fansite after guru.

I made my first guild with friends. When it collapsed, I went with some of them into a guild they found. When that collapsed, a friend got me into another guild. A guildie from that guild got me into my first PvP guild, from there I got into guilds from people I met on IRC. My final resting place is a guild lead by someone I knew from TGH. I never once got into a guild from a pug.

I actually met the last guild I was in through GW Guru. It was a guild and alliance specifically for hard mode stuff and titles. It went quite well for them for a while. But one of the officers was really annoying, passive and condescending and there as no way he would be demoted or dealt with in any way. He totally blew me off and it went on and on so I left the guild. So the guild wasn't as great as I hoped it would be. Plus the core group acts all nice and stuff. But when someone leaves because of an issue, they take to insulting the person behind their back in chat and vent. I knew it was only a matter of time until it was me because of the issue some people and I had with the annoying officer.

First guild was a nub guild I got into via 'LF guild' in all chat. Second guild was the same. Next 2 or 3 guilds were PVP ones from meeting people in HA. Then I quit PVP and got into the CASH farmers alliance, these guys were like uber PVE, but not much HM going on, just mostly farming elite areas. So I left and put up a LF hard mode alliance on guru and got into SNOW. Ended up getting legendary guardian in 2 or 3 days by 2 manning with a guildie in lotu. /EPIC PASS alliance.

I made my own guild together with friends. I have made only a few friends pugging and some have joined, but because the guild is only really good for having all the merchants and stuff and we do not actually do any PvP or GvG the people eventually either move off or stop playing GW.

We often play 2 peeps plus 6 heroes and occasionally 3 or 4 people. I play solo with 3 heroes and 4 henchman. I would love to be able to have 7 heroes as I make sure they all are well runed and have good insignia's. Also we set up the heroes as complimentary to the team. Nothing beats good synergy and I guess that is also a problem in pick up groups.

My guild is very small - myself, my husband, our son, and 2 friends from an old guild (one I met while green farming ^^, uhh ohh, pug). Our alliance has 2 other very small guilds... One of the leaders I met while we were pugging, trying to master some mission or another. The other leader was an AB find. We've been together for quite some time now and are all happy... But, despite how we met, we still make fun of pugs sometimes over alliance chat when someone is stuck in an exceptionally bad one! haha

Edit: Phrase "diamond in the rough" comes to mind. ^^

I came back from a 3 month break to find out my guild was dead, so I disband it.

I stoud in Droknar spamming I was looking for a guild (was not expecting anything good tbh). Got one in, stayed in for about 2 week before I was promoted to officer and the officer ask me to make a allied guild for PvP, that failed, and I tried to rejoin the other guild, leader was in an other guild, so I got an invite into that one, and the rest is history

That last guild is ATF(Ascalon task force) which the members have been disbanded, seperated, refound, rejoin and a lot of the members are now in The Guild SOUL (Soldiers of untold Legend), including me as an officer

I love playing with pugs. I've joined a few guilds but only stayed in them for a week or less because of annoying beggars and wts guild/alliance spam and the obligation to commit to guild stuff because I'm about as random as a human can be and for a thousand other reasons. pugs for me forever

The first guild I was in had an 12 year old leader (not exaggerating) and the couple people in the guild which I usually played with said they were going to this other great amazing guild, and they invited me to come along. They ended up turning their backs to us, the guild leader didn't like that so they were kicked. I stayed and was eventually promoted to officer and that's where I stand now.

Seriously if anything, PUG's should be better now than they used to be. Not everyone has to use Heroes & Henchmen. The people that always get into groups and ruin them, not making any progress can just solo by themselves. The ones that know how to work together with other people can get into groups and have their fun, while filling the gaps with heroes.

Are people honestly that frightened of pick-up groups? I mean it took me a while, but I got in a group for a gwen dungeon Frostmaw's Burrows in hard mode last night at 3am. We only used 2 heroes and breezed through it, and had a lot of fun in the process. It felt like a real online RPG *gasp*.

I'm not frightened of pick-up groups really. It's just hard to find any. No one ever uses the party search. No one seems to want to start a group. Whenever a few people chat about wanting to do the same thing, sometimes a group still won't get started because no one wants to be the leader.

I found my guild through a posting in the Guilds section here on Guru. I've never thought about joining a guild based on a PUG but I do still use PUGs all of the time. Sure, sometimes they're awful but sometimes they're awesome. Sometimes it's nice to have someone else to give ideas if you're stuck and can't get a bonus or whatever. Plus, I like to chat
