GW Reaches 5 Million Milestone

Its official. About 6 months after the 4 million, GW reaches the 5 million mark. Interesting.....we are still getting a healthy noob population (aside from the many bots and such), even in the announcement of GW2. Grats Anet.

I mean, seriously, its been a year. A freaking year. And all we got was "The Movement of the World". Honestly. At least announce whether the beta is open or not.

Does that include BMP sales?

This is their first series, and it did well.
Good for them. I hope they make a bunch more fun games in the future.

As much as I criticize them, they have done well for themselves.

GJ Anet....but yes, I wouldn't mind more info on GW2

Well, I didn't start Guild Wars right away.
I played Everquest 2 and then Wow, then Guild Wars.
Once people get bored of mmorpg formulas, Guild Wars can feel like a refreshing and interesting change.
It was fun doing quests that made me laugh and do strange things like round up piglets and bees, rather than the "here's a quick/lame justification in asking you to kill 6 bears" quests, that I was used to.

I hope they go on to make many more fun games

What is the point of getting a population in this game when PvE is done by yourself. There is barely any human interaction at all, barely in PvP as well.
Pleikki
Gratz anet meh i guess 3-4milj players
Antheus
Guild Wars sells 1 million every 6 months. It's constant since launch.

Seriously though, most people that have been playing at least 6 months find a good guild and stick to and either do stuff with that guild or by themselves. Partly due to guilds, partly due to bad PUGs (There will never be a day when my pickup group has a person running a horrible build)
So there is interaction, but just alot between a few people. And if there is no interaction in most PvP, then you automatically fail. Good PvPers have synergy, otherwise they suck.
Bryant Again
Very nice work, ANet : ) And people say Guild Wars is dead!

This is a milestone that I am sure when the game was originally released they never dreamed of making. Hats of to you a-net.

No offense to guru (it seems to have a jaded point of view when it comes to GW) but after taking a 3-4 month break, coming back I still see plenty of life in multiple area's and new players to the game.
Not the dying, omg world is coming to the end.. etc you can find here.

Congratulations!
GW is a fantastic game, I have played it since the very beginning with only minor breaks.
Funny thing is that GW seems to sell still very well and still strong, if not better than ever before, now that > I < personally consider it aging and done, having done almost everything myself.
Seems that ANet will have enough money and thus the time to test GW2 thoroughly and does not need to hurry overly much and release it in late beta status... ANet, did you hear that? :>

5 million x $40 = 200 million or 2 billion dollars

And congrats ANet. Hope that fuels some nice motivation for GW2 .

Sigh. Patience is a virtue.
Any excuse for people to shoe-horn in an agenda *shake head* Why not just be happy for a nice, simple announcement. Like this:
Wow, that's so cool! Way to go. Cheers, here's a toast *raise glass*

It is amazing that this lil game we play called Guild Wars has grown to this size, makes ya feel proud to be a part of it, even if it is a small part. Hopefully we continue to grow and once gw2 comes out we can take those same #s there
RiKio

Notably missing, Halo 2.
This would make, according to your list, GW a surprising success.
The sims, with 16 million sold by 2005, was ranked as best-selling PC game. By that time, WoW was not a contender.
Given these numbers, getting such high numbers in *Windows PC*, in the time when majority of gaming has moved to consoles is a notable success.

Andrew is in the thread...I feel a wave of good feelings coming on...

That is certainly a large # of new players.
/offtopic
It can't bring back the friends that quit though. Seems a lot of my friends haven't logged on forever and now me. There goes a good 30 or so people. Until the next big thing to happen in gw.. I won't be playing.
MMORPG = No fun w/out friends especially those you had from the beginning.

May the new players flourish and have fun like I did.
