guildwarsguru.com popups

Get rid of these darn popups. I am getting sick and tired of trying to log in, but everytime a popup comes up, I have to close it, and click back into the textbox to keep typing, because the popup interupts the typing, so I have to click back in to the box every single time a popup coms up. It takes like 10x longer to log in then it should.
This is so rediculous.

This is so rediculous. Just tick the 'Remember me' box?
Tbh if they didn't have ads, you wouldn't have a guru to take 10x longer to log onto anyway.

Ads pay for this site, or you can become a paying member and get rid of the ads.

Tbh if they didn't have ads, you wouldn't have a guru to take 10x longer to log onto anyway. We did have a time before the popups and heavier advertising...
And that time was filled with much pain and sorrow, for the server was slower constantly for everyone, and it gave white screens of death intermittently.
In any case, for this particular problem, a subscription wouldn't help, since not being logged in will get you pop-ups either way.
If you're using a computer that clears cookies automatically, such as many public computers (I know my university ones wipe everything after logging out), or for whatever other reason, you can't use the "remember me" option to remain logged in, you're just out of luck, unfortunately.
The ads are heaviest for people logged out so that the ads for people logged in can be lighter. Please try to bear that in mind through the frustration. The servers have to be paid for either way, and the alternative would be increasing the ads for logged in viewers.

Inde, would it be possible to convert this website to a Class B?
Class B means that all of the traffic to http://www.example.com is politely and silently redirected to http://example.com. This is currently the preferred no-www classification as it does not inconvenience your users, but it does assert the deprecated nature of the www subdomain.
The process of making your domain a Class B is quite simple. All you need to do is create or modify a file called .htaccess located in the root directory of your site and add the following lines.
Code:
RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.guildwarsguru\.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://guildwarsguru.com/$1 [R=301,L] More can be learned about it here:

I get the same popup every couple of days while logged in. Got a screen of it this time.

Ouch, nasty - that shouldn't be happening.

I get pop ups on every other thing I click on :S.
Inde
I'm wondering if it's a roll down since it's associated with the ad at the top. I've been getting some of those lately. And Issac, no you don't. Not unless you are logged out.
Snograt
He might be referring to the clicking on internal links problem (like Tarun mentioned)

i am not annoyed by the pop ups, i am worry they might contain undesirables sneaky little programs.
PyrAnkh
I just got a popup when logged on as well, about some bowling game.
Apart from that i must say i really really hate these popups. I ALWAYS get one during logon, so when i am halfway typing my name a new window opens, i gotta close it and continue. Annoying.

I also share the concern for popups containing nice little sneaky programs.

statcounter.com Tracking cookies are a normal, if not annoying, part of the web browsing experience. They do mine data for marketing purposes, and I do recommend removing them for privacy, but, to the best of my knowledge, they're not viral - that is, they cause no damage to your system, are not resilient to removal, and do not proliferate to others' computers through your own.
I doubt GWG will remove advertisements or stop using advertisers because of tracking cookies, particularly because very few, if any, ad companies don't use them.

I use AVG and it finds a load of tracking cookies on each daily scan. It justs lists them as warnings, then I remove them. I don't consider them a problem.

A somewhat annoying incident happened not too long ago. I was just browsing Guru when I was redirected - twice, I might add - to two different Poker sites. One was the big, well known one (888) and the other had Looney Toons on, I didn't really stay long.
I'm running a scan to see if I have any problems on my end, but with the Poker-software pop-up messages, I fear this may be from a Guru add.
Also, some of the ads seem to have the need to resize my browser window so that it takes up my entire screen. Very annoying.

Blocking the tabs at the top is really cool.

I was just coming here to complain of the same thing >.>
That larger-than-window ad at the top of the home page, covers the tabs to get to auction and the rest..... is seriously annoying -_-
I don't mind that there are ads and fully understand the need for them, but when they don't fit site layout... >_<

Websites like these are funded by these pop-ups. If you don't want to get popups then subscribe for the Elite Guru subscription, I know it's annoying but a website like this isn't free to run. I'm very grateful that Inde and others do this when really, it's Anet responsability to create forums for their own game, almost every MMORPG I know of has, not favouring WoW or anything, but they done a very good job with theirs, they even have paid moderators and staff to take care of it, gwguru is all volunteers work.
Edit: Also, use Firefox, not Internet Explorer, I rarely get any pop-ups, scanning your computer for spyware wouldn't be a bad idea either, you can download spybot Search & Destroy from www.downloads.com which is pretty good.

Daluz I know guru pays for their servers by ads, but when the ad is larger then the ad box and overflows to some useful links is kinda annoying.
