Well,

the 117 players a couple months ago that got banned, got a permanent ban.

why only a 3 day ban?

If the 3 day ban is true.....this makes no sense...

Buying gold would be much more of a serious offence than exploiting the game.

My reasoning for this is...

Are the Gold sellers and Gold buyers not required to kick some sort of royalty back to Anet. I mean, it's there game, so it's, there Gold. If you sell "there" gold for a profit, wouldn't you think they would have to pay Anet a royalty?

So even tho the Gold sellers got banned.....they STILL made a huge profit.

as someone had posted earlier...somewhere in the area of 42,000 dollars...WOW!!

But the gold buyers get the gold stripped...and a 3 day ban?

so....why didn't the Mallyx exploiters get all gold and loot stripped and a 3 day ban?

So, if the 190 mill was on active accounts that only received a 3-day ban, how much was on the 4,876 accounts that got a perma-ban? That would be a better indication of how much was removed from the economy.

Also, I don't think these 'stats' amount to much in the way of information. It's like when politicians produce stats to show themselves in a favourable light, making sure only the facts that they want to show are revealed.

Oh, and hey, on this topic. When we say we "removed" the gold, in truth we "destroyed" the gold. Something a player said to me last night made me think that there was this image of millions of "reclaimed" gold hidden away in some cyber vaults at ArenaNet.

When we remove the gold, it's deleted from the game.

I agree more with Fates Cry .. Buying Gold is far worse than a game bug the 117 should have had there items removed and a 3 day ban.. Anet messed up with that one...however loot scaling wont be removed thats what HM is for end of !

a carefully exploited bug that had been going on for a long time until some stupid ashat got super greedy.

who knows how many things besides armbraces got duped?

not to mention a full 100 plat in inventory each time.

besides that buying the amount of gold they made in minutes is nothing.

also how about the literally thousands of people who traded honest high value items for free duped items............take thair armbraces also?

i hope Anet was not kidding when they said legal action was proceding against the exploiters

You just answerd my point.. 1 duper could make more money in 10 mins than 117 people doing nothing else but the mallyx bug for 3 months solid. Anet knew people would find out about the bug i know of 15 people who reported it months before anything hapened about it... as i said anet was too harsh on them as they had no bannings for any of the other game bugs people exploited and 3 day ban for gold buyers is a joke. i also take it that its only recent gold buyers that got there gold taken from them. people have been selling gold from day one again anet knew about it and only just implomented a "fix" and because its alot more people than the mallyx bug anet couldnt ban them or 1/6 of the gw population would be gone.

They got 771.

How many thousands did they NOT get?

Not really sorry to point out the negative sides, I still know two guys with duped items and large cash stocks that did not get banned. :>

Guild Wars players have expressed interest in learning how our actions in support of the recently expanded Real-Money Trading Policy have affected the game. We’d like to provide you with some facts and figures following the first two weeks of the new policy’s implementation.

During the first two weeks, we did the following:
  • Halted online distribution of demo accounts to combat spamming
  • Noted a significant reduction in RMT spamming
  • Blocked 391 abused IP addresses
  • Terminated 4,876 accounts associated with RMT networks
  • Removed 190,200,000 purchased gold from 771 players
  • Witnessed a substantial reduction in botting activity in the game
  • Witnessed a substantial drop in RMT account creation and RMT transactions
We will continue to monitor the outcomes of enforcing the new policies, and we greatly appreciate the solid support of the community in dealing with this important issue.

Head here for the Dev Update.

So because they didn't ban everybody that broke the rules, they shouldn't even try?

I mean, what's the point of arresting murderers or drug dealers, murders are still going to happen and drugs will still be on the street right?

Imo, the reason that these stats were even made public is to just manipulate peoples thoughts about this. Nobody really knows the impact botters/dupers/gold sellers had on this economy.

The reason? Well, since it can be done, and since no one bothered to do it, I'll just say that no one really cared about it. Then again, this is nothing more than a product sold to us by a bussiness, and is by no means a service that needs to be maintained. I think people need to realize this before they immerse themselves in this game any more than just a little temporary entertainment source.

We know you got it as a going away present Gaile, don't lie to us!

Good job on the removal. I've noticed a decrease in spammers over the last few weeks, and that's a good thing.

As for the "Effect on the economy", beyond Ectos possibly going up in value a bit due to less gold to buy them, I don't think it will have any other real effect. That's likely a drop in the bucket in terms of money.

Very interestingly, the "other side" is also publishing some stats:
http://www.playnoevil.com/serendipit...s-winning.html

Slight increase in price from $6 to $8 in the February-April period apparently explained by holidays in China (strange!).

Most interestingly, it seems that MMO companies are failing to put obstacle in the way of RMT companies, as can be seen in Runescape and EQ2's legit RMT.

(comments on the article are both interesting and funny, particularly the hilarious message from an RMT employee...)

Guess what's even funnier? Poland's Ebay, allegro.pl, has created a category ,,guild wars'' so people can sell items/gold easier... Yet they don't allow illegal copies of games/music/films to be sold. What's the difference damn it? Does the fact that money is in game makes this money any worse? Or they choose laws for themselves? :O

The difference is that music/film industries are lobbying very hard against this (even against giving away their amazing profits to authors, see recent strikes). See a thread I created a while ago. Laws are not different, but people think they are.

1) If it was the case, I don't think it'd be funny as RMT is a plague (you probably didn't intend your sentence to sound like it's really funny, but I thought I'd say it anyway); 2) I don't think it's the case that they're doing the opposite (both Anet and Blizzard made official announcements against RMT) and that Blizzard is more successful at tackling this issue (until further evidence).

P.S.: anyone knows how much 50k GW gold compares to 300 Horde Gold in WoW? (RMT price says Wow's 300go is worth 3 times more than GW's 50k)?

In the Germany in that context the word "funny" would have the meaning of "weird" or "curios". Maybe that is the case here, too.

This is what Oles said on GWO:

Blizzard > Anet?
If it is true, than yes Blizzard does the exact opposite of what ANet did with LS!

The question is, is it three times harder to obtain 300go or not? Assume it takes the same amount of time for both values, then the higher price, would be used to compensate for a higher risk of being caught, right?

Pretty cool to see the stats...

Shame it appears that in the anet link about RMT, they've spelt it RTM (this is going off the links on the current in-game reminder message)
