Do you play for fun? (regarding titles, ursan, pvp, farming)
Omnidragon42
Been playing 29 months, over 2700 hours.
I play for fun.
Farming? Awesome! I love finding new ways to crack tough areas, and nothing beats the thrill of wiping out 20 mobs within a matter of seconds. And the money is nice too
Ursan? Helps with those tough areas. A friend of mine called me a "Bring Ursan but don't use it" warrior - I only buff up when it's that or wipe. Other people can use it if they want though, they don't affect me.
Titles? I love collecting things, and titles are no different. I've got 16 maxed titles on my warrior, and after the short break I'm on now, I'm vanquishing and mapping tyria for the next 4 (legendaries >_>)
PvP? Even with all the sway in halls, I still have fun playing, although once I hit my next rank I probably won't HA again unless invited. Other forms of PvP are great fun too, so long as you don't take it too seriously.
If you don't play for fun, why play at all?
Two and half years and loving it every day ^_^

I play for fun. I usually do somthing different each time I log in. One night its AB. next night farm. next night try to get into elite missions. next night jsut mess around.

I play for fun. Conan... may be good, I'm keeping an eye on it, but my main targets are the BioWare MMO (Because it's made by BioWare and will therefor be of higher quality than other games as per the company policy) and the 40K MMO by Vigil and THQ, because it's 40K.
(By the way, as to Malice Black, I'm not sure how you think changing online games will free you from the carebears... the little buggers are everywhere. And they're so much fun to assault.)

But there will be no hand holding in AoC. Lose in PvP and you drop gold (blood money) which can then be used to purchase items for PvP.
The who thing about battling for control of keeps sounds good. I hope it's better worked then the shambles that was Factions. HFFF sucks...badly
PvE will be a distraction this time around. I plan on being king of the castle

Define hand holding in this case, please; I'm a bit confused as to what it's referring to, though anything that punishes the weak and the incompetent is great in my book

755 hours, almost three years. I don't play much, lol.
I enjoy solo farming, but never do it in a "hardcore" way. Just an hour or two of Vermin on event weekends, then back to whatever I was planning on doing at the time.

I don't have any max titles other than protector, guardian or vanquisher titles, as I view "fun" as playing the main storyline and all of its quests.
I'm a completionist at heart, and my goal is to solo every possible mission, quest and area in the game. Checking off that "box" as completed is what keeps me going.
As a result, titles (other than Level 1 Drunkard, since that is what I am in real life) and virtual wealth (and everything that goes with those two) are meaningless as long as I can be functional in my completionist pursuits.

I'm all PvE (barring the costume brawl which was awesome), and pretty much just fun.
However, I do want the bennies that the HoM will give us in GW2, so I do try and grind out some things. The weapons are going to be the hardest part honestly. Those things are stupid expensive.

Titles The benefit you get in PvE Skills is just as good in lvl 9 compared to level 10 but the grind it requires is a lot more. If you enjoy maxing titles, it's all good but after 1.5 years of gameplay I have 0 maxed titles. my alternative: play every (elite) area in game at least once or try crazy builds rather than fill in HM books (same quests over and over). Where's the fun in that? (but if having a maxed title is fun for you, then it's all good) |
Quote:
Ursan The whole creativity of making a 8-man team disappears. Play want to play to clear an area as fast as possible to get the maximum reward. I can understand if the game was new or for newer players who want cash fast but shouldn't people be inclined to do more creative stuff rather than stick to ursan after almost 3 years the game has been out? I personally take my paragon to UW and people call me n00b or paras suck or leave group when i say this is a non-ursan group. |
Quote:
PvP There's an abundance of R/D Sway. Again this is all good for newer players but higher ranked players are running this. |

Farming this is where the most creativity comes into play and kudos to all people who come up with builds. |

On the other hand, I really enjoy it when people play something creative like all mesmer team fow or even time challenges in UW/FoW (even with ursan) because that promotes some thinking. So if you really play for fun, shouldn't we see "MOAR" creative clear of elite areas rather than less. (esp. after enough game play where you'd have more than enough money/armor/etc.) |

I play for fun!!
I don't like pugs/PVP/GVG/AB because the build I use is the one I'm comfortable using. Making me change to fill a niche just throws off my balance/timing and keystrokes.
I have no Maxed titles.
My weapons are ones that look good with the character more than give me the best stats.
It's only a game!

Yeah, I play for fun. I haven't PvE'd in months o.o
It's too bad that ANet had to ruin RA by implementing titles =(
RA has changed from casual PvP to a hardcore elitist flamefest. I think I've met a total of three people that actually have a measure of gamesmanship.

If AoC does not have the worthless title-RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO styled stuff from Gw or the monotonous genocide quests from WoW, I'll need to acquire a copy upon release
What I'd like to see in a PvP oriented game is something similar to Dark Messiah but without the balance issues, the shitty engine (Source or whatever, that one made by the clowns at Valve), etc.
Fear Me!
I always play for fun, regardless of what I'm doing atm.

After nearly 2 years of playing, my closest max titles are r9 Sunspear and r9 Norn (Norn, which is extremely easy to max).
I don't farm in the sense of making an invincible build and going out, standing in one place, and let AoE kill stuff to death.. I'd much rather play normally and let the loot come to me, not go get the loot.

2 years and i have yet to stop playing for fun.
i figure, a little bit of un-fun farming will be nesesary to meat my HoM goals b4 GW2 (not that high, just R1 KoABD left to get, already have the armour and weapons i wanted to put in)
and I can bypass that un-fun farming by monking for ursan groups (bypassing title grind) and selling consumable sets every once in a while.

I play for fun... unfortunately, that means I have to do a lot of grind.
This game's mechanic is based around creating builds. With GWEN, you get a lot of interesting skills to creates builds with... unfortunately, you HAVE to grind to make good use of these skills. So I have to grind so that I can get to the fun part.

I would like to play more than what I do now, but everytime I logged on, I just get bored.
Lets see ... I don't farm, don't grind for titles, don't ursan, don't pvp ...
But my definition of fun will be new contents, new weapons or new storyline. Not requesting for that to happen, but thats what kept me going for almost 3 yrs.
You need to pick up the loot, or else Anet will loot it from ya

Play for fun. I like doing the campaigns with different characters and trying different builds to beat various missions. I like PvP also but have not had much luck in finding a decent group to play with. Most PvP guilds require existing rankings (titles) and too much online time. So I spend some time in RA and AB all by myself.
Titles do not concern me much - I already have the mahogany office in RL. I do not feel I need to prove anything in an online game. I grind for money in RL, so I do not want to repeat that in a game either.
As for Ursan ... I got the skill and got level 3 and tried to join a few groups. The 1337ness of it all is nauseating. No one wants a R3 noob, its all just "GLF R8+ No Noobs !!!111". Same thing in all the elite areas now. So I am supposed to go grind a bunch of missions to fill handbooks till I get a Rank 8, so I can get access to the 1337 PUGs, just so I can grind the same missions in HM so I can fill more books? Makes no sense to me. I used to be able to get groups in DoA / UW etc, but lately if you not UB R8+ forget it.

I play for fun.. but I think my definition of fun must be different from the OP's. I have had heaps of fun grinding titles on my monk, and while working on R12 kurzick for GWAMM, I'm starting the whole process again on my paragon. .... Fun fun for me!
Edited to add that my norn title is strictly for using in norn areas, I tried ursan and found it insanely boring... I'd prefer to spend it hfffing.

I absolutely play for fun. If it wasn't fun I wouldn't log in, I'd have uninstalled it, and I've have long left these boards.
It'd be rather silly to play a game you're not having fun with. It's like watching a t.v. show you hate, but yet you keep watching it anyways just to complain about it.

I used to play somewhat compulsively - mainly because I had nothing else to do at the time and even chestrunning was better than sitting around. That and the rewards and rivalry among other PvE friends was a little bit fun.
Pretty much quit now since I don't have time for PvP and no longer find PvE interesting. I wouldn't drag myself to play, and stopped grinding entirely - so I guess it's fun or camaraderie that kept me playing.

As I stated earlier this week in another thread I only play for fun.
I don't consider maxing titles, playing UB, PvP or farming to be fun.
I don't play any PvP anymore (I don't consider AB PvP) and I don't farm.
However, what I do enjoy is teaming up with others or just mindless put a team together and kill stuff just to pass some time.
And while I do this I might as well work on titles or play in an ursan team if friends/guildies are asking me to join in such a team.
Now to your question:
Well, that depends.
This would be true if we could roll whatever PvE profession we wanted at maxed level with all previous unlocked skills available. Just like PvP characters.
And at the same time had all titles linked to account and not individual characters.
What I have seen is that a lot of players chose to play a limited number of professions for the main things. Many one, some two.
This creates an interesting problem where people either need to be very creative with team builds or teams can't form so well.
It's not easy to form a team with two warriors, a dervish, two elementalists, a paragon, a necro and a Ritualist.
This is a situation I have seen once or twice when organizing something.
Can be solved by people switching characters but people must be willing to do so.
Or split the team and take some heroes to cover the missing spots but that's less fun.
Now let's say I have an idea for a team to clear ToPK.
It needs 2 or 3 assassins, two Paragons, a Ritualist, a Dervish and a Mesmer.
It would take a huge effort just to get those people there.
All need to do at least the desert missions and ascention to get in ToPK.
And let's say the team does not work as intended.... And we need a second Ritualist? Again a lot of time 'wasted' because we need to get that profession there.
If we want more creativity this is a 'problem' that might need to be solved.

If I do not get fun, I do not play.
So thanks to the HoM focus-in-one-characters-don't dare-to-play-with-others-grindorama I'm not playing much lately.

Don Doggy
I play for fun whether its PvE, PvP, farming or grinding for titles I enjoy what I do in Guild Wars.
Vanilla Guerilla
Im working on max titles. Currently vanquishing and cartographing (made up word?) to get me to 20. I'm revisiting areas I havent been in in a long time. Using the opportunity to run as a smite monk which I had never run prior to titles.
Some nights it's fun. I can just zone out and eradicate red dots. When I get bored, I go AB, or do some guardian title stuff. Or I sit in my GH, throw down some shamrock ale, and chat with guildies.
There are currently no other MMOs that interest me at all, so it's either do the above, play COD4, clean my house, or do other stuff in the real world.
I quit playing once for about 8 months, then came back and have been entertained since I've been back. It's not as fun as it used to be, but what game is there that gives the same level of fun 3 years after you first installed it.

I play for fun... meaning i play strictly for titles nothings more fun then maxing out a new title.
