Did you ever give access to your account to anyone?
Fril Estelin
I wish I could create a poll for that:
The title says it all, did you ever give access to your account to anyone?
If so, to whom and why? Did you then change your password after they used your account?
I'll start by saying that I did, but my wife and myself were using the same account since she was a very casual player. And I know she has safe security practices since she's interacting only with very few people in-game, so no risk of information leak. And I set up her comp so that the shortcut uses the "-pwd" option so she never really knew the password (and her comp is fully protected).
EDIT: another question you may want to answer is: did you ever give access to someone so that they can power-level your characters? (i.e., play the game for you so that you don't have to do what you consider boring stuff, for example get to level 20 with all your heroes at level 20, or achieve 1 million+ gold)
EDIT: if you can create a poll for me on GWG and it's not against GWG rules, please contact me.
EDIT: updated information from 97 answers so far (up to message #114). Note that numbers are rough estimates, because it's hard to guess the information from natural language descriptions . The average number and motivations are not very accurate due to lack of information. The situation of multiple accounts is not represented correctly here (and I've put girl/boyfriends in family ;P). Take these numbers with at least two teaspoons of salt!
The who?
1) Absolutely not: 36 (37.1%)
2) No but I considered it: 7 (7.2%)
3) I refused access given by to others to their account: 2 (2%)
4) To close friends that I trust: 34 (35%)
5) To people I know in person: 12 (12.3%)
6) To family members: 23 (23.7%)
7) To someone I met in game: 4 (4.1%)
8) I also have access to other people's account: 18 (18.5%)
Average number of other people that can access acount:
107/97 = 1.1
Motivations (the why?):
1) To check something for me: 2 (2%)
2) Shared account: 2 (2%)
3) To increase one of my title or play the game for me: 9 (9.3%)
4) For special events (e.g. festivals): 7 (7.2%)
5) To try the game in order to decide if I should buy it: 6 (6.2%)
6) For storage: 2 (2%)
7) Just because I trust them (or they trust me): 14 (14.4%)
8) Someone gave me their account: 1 (1%)
9) Only for a particular event or situation: 13 (13.4%)
10) For playing the game with different maxed characters: 1 (1%)
11) In order to be able to play while I was banned[I]: 1(1%)[/U]

yep, to my friend when i was on vacation to check something for me, and on occasions to buy/sell for me.
he still has my account pass, and still use it only when i tell him to.
i've known him for 13 years so he's pretty safe :P...and he doesn't do anything i don't tell him to do so there's no security problem...since he's usually more careful than i am at trades.

I've never given out my pass, or even the email I use for my account.
One thing though, I invited a few friends over at my house last weekend (had a sleepover ;P) and me, being the extreme lazy ass I am, slept in until 2... my friend woke up around noon, and all I can say... I left my char online (/age farming is really leet) and he had fun trading himself 10 ectos and 40k lmao xD

Never, but i was was seriously considerating it (i.e events I could not participate in because i was going to be offline.; giving guild officers access to my mule account so that anyone can grab goodies ...)
On the other hand, people offered me access to their accounts few times, which politely refused (with little lecture).

2 people who i trust with my life know my account and password. They never log into it unless checking with me first, and these people have known my account/passwords for years and i've never had a problem with it.
edit: Might as well mention that i know these two people personally. I'd never trust anyone online with my account information.

Yes.... And since I know them personally I don't care.

My brother, we used to share the account. So he had 4 characters and I had 4. Since then I've got a new password and he's got his own account. I'd trust him with my account anytime as I'm the older/bigger brother and would cause pain if he abused the right.
Silent Hunter Xx
Aye 4 people, know 3 of em personally and id trust em with anything, we all know each others, its an open relationship between us, lol

Once, in Diablo 2. I gave to a dude, he gave me his. I didn't steal from him, but after holidays I checked my account... Naked characters.
Guess what happened? After 2-3 hours he PMed me and asked where am I, so he can give back his stuff. Turned out he took those items because I wasn't on for a long time, so if my characters expired, I wouldn't loose them... I got every item I had and an apology for not warning me beforehand about that plan.
But such person is born every 100 years.

Yes, maybe 10 people all up. I've met them all and if they're going to throw away a long friendship to screw around with my account, I don't want them as a friend.

2 People know my account details, and they've both been my friends for years.
If they'll abuse the friendship over a game, then it's their loss.

My best friend in game, also my ex-officer. Haven't met up with him yet in RL.
I changed password first time round, but i gave him my new one anyway. I actually encourage him to go on my account if he needs anything.

Yes.
Reasons:
1. Lucky is account wide.
2. If I were to get banned (because of some moronic action that the person that knows my pass did) - I'd stop playing GW anyway.
At the end of the day - it's just a game.
Now excuse me while I go bitch about everything in it ...

Two guys have my account info; my husband and one of my great friends on GW. In all honesty I trust both with it so it doesn't bother me. Husband had it since the beginning (not that he uses it, but it can come handy) and the second has had it for a while now... I changed my password once.
I know the account info of a couple people (couple great friends', husband's, guild leader's) but I can honestly say I only used one of those a lot and I had the full permission to - mule account since he didn't play anymore. As for my guild leader's... it's mostly in case if there's a problem that officers can't fix, if I wanna change the cape (I'm gonna put something horrible before he comes back ) and use the dye bank.
Never got hacked, never woke up and found my whole account had been deleted by my husband or by my friends, never missed anything... I'm not even sure if my good buddy even remembers the info x].

I almost said no, because I really don't trust anyone, but I let my younger brother on in hopes that he would get into the game. He played a few times and quit.
quickmonty
No.
There are several people that I would trust, but there has never been a reason to give anyone else access to my account.

Yes, to my Guild Leader, although we never met, we know eachother since day one of GW and consider us good friends.
He works a lot so I log into his account to attend festivals and gets his partyhats or manage his Zaishen Keys so he doesn't miss his points.
In turn he has all my login codes, he bought me two extra slots and EotN.

FrAnt1c??
I know my brothers account info, he knows mine, besides that I would only give that info to people I know in real life, so I can burn down their house if they mess with my account...
Turbobusa
Why would I?
AscalonWarrior
Yeah, real life friend and my brother knows the password. But since my brother doesn't play GW and my friend has his own account it doesn't really matter.
Lady Ana Stacia
Yes my husband, and after 10 yrs if I can't trust him with it well then I have bigger problems then a game :-P
Dronte
A friend of mine knows my acc name + pass, but I know him personally so w/e.
Also I have access to 3 more accounts which are not mine.

No ... never had to although I could probably do so to a few trusted friends if they wanted to try the game.

just to my girlfriend, we both know each others e-mail and password and we both trust each other ^_^ we also check with each other before even considering going onto each others accounts

My ex boyfriend has my password+email, and I have his and his little brothers, as they let me on their accounts before I actually bought the game, and his little bro let me use his account to see if Factions and Nightfall were actually worth buying.
I trust em, they trust me. Good enough.

Are you making a massive name dump so that you can send all the names to Anet and get them banned?
Mad King Corn
I gave my password to 15 people, I made 1 simple rule, if the password leaks out 2 of those people will be randomly shot. There are 5 people left alive and its amazing, but they have kept my password a secret now for over a year.

To stay on topic:
I have never given my account information to anyone. But i know a few ppl i can trust them with it.
I have account information from my older friends that never play anymore. I only use them to store some stuff and during events. Ow and to play the mAT's
Currently, my main is on nine rings, and i'm farming/grinding quests with one of the other accounts
crazybanshee
Never. Not even my boyfriend of 6 years knows my password, and it's staying that way. I'm overprotective of the time I've put into gw, getting titles and so on.
leeky baby
ya i given people my accout info, but only people i trust
pamelf
Yes, i've let my sister and my boyfriend play. i've also let a friend try out a character on an empty character slot to see if he liked the game.

No. What a stupid thing to ask.

Let someone I met in the game login to my account several times...and I also had her info.

A few times...
1) I let my little brother pvp for me occasionally (he's better than me )
2) To a very trusted fellow guild officer, whom took care of me while i was on vacation
3) And involuntarily to the people whom i have been hacked by 2 times >_< .

Yea, to like 4-5 people I trust. We usually exchanged our account info so that no one could try to mess around and steal stuff, but I trust my friends enough with my account info ^^.
I also haven't changed my pw since I'm too lazy and not paranoid enough to :P.
Also, usually gave out my pw so that people could do me favors and vise versa. But it's also fun to mess with peoples minds when bored
