Did you ever give access to your account to anyone?

Never. I've put forward quite a bit of money towards my Guild Wars account. (CE Factions & NF, tons of character slots, Proph special edition etc...)

Not to mention I've already had £30 stolen off me by my so-called "Friends".

My gf of 3 years knows every login detail to everything I've ever been on or owned. Why would it be any different? If you love somebody you trust them completely. I'd expect my gf to be extremely angry if I didn't trust her with just a stupid game password and had to put -pwd into the shortcut so she couldn't know what it was.

She'd be fully justified in wondering if GW was more important than her if I did that -pwd thing. Hell, I'd say that for everybody - especially if you're married. Surely you have joint bank accounts, and GW after all is JUST a game.

Obviously nobody should give their details to people willy-nilly - be careful who you share it with. Only people you really do trust completely. But really, if you can't trust those close people in your life - and expect that they may one day turn around and take all your stuff or wipe your account or whatever - then get new friends.

My partner has mine and I have his. It's just for convenience and we'd only have to use them on vary rare occasions. Last time I logged into his account was when the ceratadons came out; I got him one as a surprise and then left his computer on with the dinosaur walking around his war's feet so it was the first thing he saw when he came home. Awww, I'm nice.

I guess we'll put it in the pre-nup; "thou shalt not maliciously delete each others ectos, nor leave each others hawt female eles afk so that they can be humped by passing wammos, for these will be grounds for divorce and custody of the pixellated characters in question".

I have not, but I've had 2 people give me their account information. Both are online friends I've been in contact with for years now, so it doesn't really matter.

No, I am very protective of my accounts.

If it is someone I know in person and see often, I MIGHT let them on my secondary account, just to try it.

I would NEVER give my login info to anyone online, friend or not. As nice as people may seem, it is impossible to tell what their real motives are. I would rather not put my trust into someone, only to find out that my account has been compromised a few days later.

Friends have offered to give me their account info, "in case I ever need anything", which I declined, saying "but thanks anyway ".

I've given access to one of my accounts to a (very good) friend and co-worker who wanted to try the game.

It wasn't my main account, it was one that I'd stopped using many months previously, it had nothing on it, and was not linked to the same NCSoft account as my main account. I changed the password once he'd finished with it.

I have also been given the details to another friend's account, to log on as him and get a Wintersday hat whilst he on holiday.

I've never shared details of my main account with anyone.

No way in hell have I, or would I ever, give my info out to anyone. That includes general friends, close friends, life time friends, family members, or significant others.

It's not about trust to me. It's about the fact there is no reason why anyone, other than myself, should have access to something I have purchased.

I know my brother's because I used to help him out by running 2 clients and getting him places he needed to be to farm certain things when he wasn't home.

No one other than myself knows my password or the e-mail used for my account, however I do trust 2-3 people enough that if it came down to it and I couldn't be around to do something I wanted, I'd have no problem handing the info over to them

I think I've let 1 or 2 RL friends use my account before, and there's a couple people I know in game I would trust with the info, but they've never needed it.

I've had my friend's account info before (so I could give him his birthday present)

Around Wintersday 2005 my hard drive screwed up, so I didn't have computer access at home to play Guild Wars. I gave my account info to a good friend so that he could get the hats for me. When I finally got my computer fixed I changed my password. Further, I got his account info once because he had trouble logging into the game.

A friend has had access to my account for over a year now. He hasn't done anything to my account though, not even change my "1234 Fake Street" address. It's not like I have anything to lose though since I'm dirt poor and have no title grinders. Heck, my most-played character has 0 maxed titles. Sad, I know.

I wouldn't give my account details to anyone. One of my ingame friends and one of their RL friends had an argument (fairly serious), and the friend got so pissed off that they deleted all the chars on my friends account... I'm not going to take that chance.

Yes, to a friend from my guild of Dark Age of Camelot. Played with him for like 5 years. I was away for an event (don't remember wich one) and wanted the mask, so he got it for me.
35 years old, married and stuff. So not the kind of guy who's going to mess with my virtual pixels for "revenge".
And I didn't change the password.

Some of you guys are quite pathetic. "Onoes I'm not gonna give my account infos to my wife/best real friend/brother! They are gonna delete all my stuff."

Well, MithranArkanere, people should not steal or kill because it's against the law. And yet they do. So they created the police, but we don't have an online police (cyber-security departments are in a way the police, but they're probably too virtual to many people). And as I said in the OP, I don't think you can ever blame or sue anyone for sharing the account on your computer with your wife or kids.

What I'm trying to do here is to see whether this is something that people do commonly and what kind of security measure they take, or don't take. See this for more justification:
http://playnoevil.com/serendipity/in...s-dispute.html

We can't change people with only laws, EULAs and trials. I hope that people don't misunderstand this thread (how stupid to ask whether I'd report people or collect IGNs ...), it's just the first baby step towards the realisation that account sharing is dangerous, though the danger can be managed in certain situations.

It's proving more difficult to gather statistics after page 3 as people are too concise, but I'll try to update.
