So the only reason not to screw somebody over is because of consequences? Jesus christ well that really sucks to see people who dont have any decency enough to show a bit of integrity or compassion towards anybody else. And these losers are forced to rely on the governing of an outside force to deter them from performing immoral acts.
If there were no consequences, how far would you go?? Petty theft? robbery? grand larceny? Murder? Where is the line drawn?

You would lose that bet sir. because there are some people out there who believe in the golden rule. Treat others how you want to be treated. Not everybody on this planet are immoral pricks. (although there are a lot of them)

Just happened to see an interesting news story linked from snopes.com (Their daily news link - not one of the Urban legends they check out)

Oct 21, 1:09 PM (ET)

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - A Dutch court has convicted two youths of theft for stealing virtual items in a computer game and sentenced them to community service.

Only a handful of such cases have been heard in the world, and they have reached varying conclusions about the legal status of "virtual goods."

The Leeuwarden District Court says the culprits, 15 and 14 years old, coerced a 13-year-old boy into transferring a "virtual amulet and a virtual mask" from the online adventure game RuneScape to their game accounts.

"These virtual goods are goods (under Dutch law), so this is theft," the court said Tuesday in a summary of its ruling.

Identities of the minors were not released.

The 15-year-old was sentenced to 200 hours service, and the 14-year-old to 160 hours.

Unfortunately that news story being reported in the United States is leaving out the full story. http://translate.google.com/translat...-8&sl=nl&tl=en The 2 teenagers also kidnapped and threatened the younger child with a large knife. 200 hours community service and 2 months of suspended detention is a pretty light sentence for what adults would be doing several years for.

A couple of days ago I got a chance to scam someone. I sold him something and he accidentally offered more ectos than we agreed on. I pointed this to him and he changed his offer.

It's not that difficult not to scam, all that is required is that you not be a piece of shit.

I did too a long time ago.. but it was 500 gold. Usually i don't pay up front for anything but i made the mistake of thinking "Gee he cant be a scammer because 500g is such a tiny gain." but as soon as i paid him he disappeared and jumped back to scamadan and continued spamming "ferrying to docks 500g each"

I guess u r right. I forget about the fact that there are immature people who will brag about taking advantage of a trusting person. Its people like this that makes the world a crappy place to live in. Its people like this that had me buy surveillance cameras for my house. Its people like this that have me shredding my mail when im through with it in order to prevent identity theft. Its people like this that had me go get a concealed weapon permit. But you are right, there are people that feel better when they get over on somebody. Then feel even better when they brag about it. I dont understand it but i accept it. It just sucks tough that mentality is even out there. People just don't know how to keep their hands in their own plate.

TL;DR I guess there are people who have realized that people are inherently evil and have accepted it and have decided to live in a natural state.

Believe me, i am well aware of the scum that exists in the world. I used to be right in the middle of it. Ill refrain from sharing my story because a lot of it is hard for most people to believe, but up until recently i dealt with scummy people on a daily basis.

Well... It's the Internet, so nobody really cares. At least you've, at one point in your life, understood the chaos that is humanity. Hopefully you'll be able to be a good little human once again.

Ive always been a good human. even when i was dealing with trash. (thats why i was so good at what i did) I was the only person in my "field" to conduct my business with integrity so i was pissing off the trash by taking all their business.

But you are right, that's why i refrained from telling my story. Nobody cares about a specific persons own life as much as that specific person. Thats just basic psychology: A mans favorite sound is his own name. People like to talk about themselves rather than other people. That is primal. But allow me to stop before we get waay off on a tangent. Bottom line is there is garbage in the world and all we can do is protect ourselves against those kind of people.
IE: Dont be so gullible. Thats why scammers get away with screwing over 12 year olds on GW, because a 12 year old hasn't learned that harsh lesson yet.

lol Daze, awesome dude. How was that lollipop btw?

OT: No, I've never scammed.

Partly on topic... I wish there was a better way of dealing with scammers in this game. Yes, I know it's been said a million times, but surely there has to be a way for us to punish the scammers?? ? man can split the atom but we cannot find a viable solution for something like this? I will never believe that, sorry.

Last night in UW a guy leeched the entire run and blatantly refused to do his part of the quests. He was such an a$$h0le he even laughed in our faces when we confronted him about it. What to do? Cant report him for leeching. Report him for botting? mmm... dunno. Spam his name for half an hour in ToA. He'll still laugh it off and find the next grp to scam when you're tired of it.

A friend of mine came up with an idea for an independent website where scammers and leechers can be listed. Obviously this kind of thing could be abused so there will be huge amounts of admin involved to try and keep it fair - which is not really worth it in the end.

Anyway, my 2c...

But even I have my morality line in the sand, so to speak. For instance, If i was walking behind a person and they dropped a thousand bucks, id let that person know.

But on the other hand, if i walked by an ATM and all of a sudden it spit out a thousand bucks, id put it straight in my pocket.

I dont have a problem with taking advantage of a cooperation because it doesnt directly impact a person just trying to live like i am. That is where i may calculate the chance of getting caught and the consequence with the reward.

So i am definitely not righteous in the least bit.

So basically we are teaching them 12 year olds a valuable life lesson in return for something they probably failed grade 7 to obtain.

Just sounds like a poor excuse to screw someone over to me because it is full of speculations and "probablys"
That kind of life lesson usually needs a harsher penalty than a few missing virtual gold. It took me losing all my worldly belongings to begin my lesson in not trusting people. Even after that i still wanted to give people the benefit of the doubt. But now I automatically assume EVERYBODY is trying to get over on me.

As long as you have the absence or looseness of your morals to take advantage of the naivety of a person to begin with. Me, i still think its sad.

Twelve year olds don't have much in their lives to lose - so losing GWG is quite a blow to them. It's all proportionate.

ATMs generally have cameras in them or near them. The person doesn't have eyes in the back of their head.

I guess... But its still a speculation. Just because there is no certainty that the person you are taking advantage of will automatically become aware of the scum of the earth. Like my mother for example, she is the most gullible person on earth. Because she is a christian and she will trust any stranger because "that is what Jesus would do". I have been knocking out her "new boyfriends" for years because they all end up taking advantage of her kindness. And will she ever learn that life lesson? Probably not. Its sad but some people are just like that, Too nice and naive about the real world. (probably your favorite kind of target)

Yes but if an ATM spit a thousand bucks on the ground, one could easily cover their face.

Even though the individual didnt see that he dropped the money, it could have been his last bit of cash needed to keep a roof over his head.

Its not a point of pure consequences or chance of success. Morality takes precedence. And my personal morals cover causing harm or distress on an individual.

Put it this way,

well True i wouldnt Steal a car, but if someone said, hey Aaron i just bought this Porsche, "Would you like me to Pirate you copy", I'd have no problem with that.

scamming is like pirating, if u got someone who CAN do it, they will.

and I'll admit i scammed many mini pets to fill up my HoM thing, oh and i swapped a crappy skinned.modded scythe for a UNCUSTOMISED caster modded destroyer spear, all because i said to the guy, its a really rare skin.....Got a Victim, u got a scammer.

You could do something like Ebay, where people can post positive and negative feedback about you (and you can reply to the negative if you want). Obviously if a scammer had a whole bunch of "don't take runs from this guy, he's a scammer" (followed by the inevitable, "No I didn't!"); a clear picture of the type of player that guy was would eventually form.
