This was stated in that Dragon/Bridge PvE example that they keep talking about. I'm curious as to how 'participating in the event' will be determined. If someone hits the dragon once, will that be sufficient? Or if they heal one wounded person, is that enough? I hope these 'events' don't turn into something exploitable. Any thoughts?

I think when it happens, a message will be displayed telling you of the event.
You click accept and then you go to the place where the action is.
Something like a timer should be implemented too, so for example you need to attack the dragon for at least x minutes or do something else for x minutes, just to prevent afk leeching.
When the quest is completed you are notified and receive your reward from an NPC/instantaneously.

My concept.

@above

He meant the timed world events that will occur in GW2.

Leader-Legion of Avalon [LoA] Alliance-Recruiting PM for info!

Simple answer to your question.

WE DON'T KNOW!

They haven't released alot of new information about GW2. While I would certainly like to know myself, you gotta keep in mind that there's not alot of information out yet.

OHHHHH GW2 Dragons....Where was this mentioned?

Bah just worry about it in 09. No beta in 08 anyways so no point in fretting about anything yet.

Of course no one knows for sure, I was just looking for possible ideas/workarounds for people who could exploit this.

Obviously, if a guy is mindlessly just casting flare over and over, they're probably going to get the same reward as a guy who actually tried.

Yeah but theres a portion of us who dont give a crap about the story, we like to make our own story, be it exploring the lands, and me personally just killing mobs and thinking of new was to kill them and dont want others around to potentialy spoil my personal fun. I dont see this happening with people running aorund everywhere stealing my kills, helping me when I didnt ask for help screwing up my farm, I couldnt do what I love the most with people running around which is just relax grind mobs and explore new lands. And I fear my playstyle wont be included in GW2.

The only place I can see anyone being able to farm without being interrupted is in the missions. Hope it doesn't kick you out if you wipe.

The "farming" playstyle will be largely dead thanks to being able to solo most of the game, thank goodness.

might not be if there is a crafting system that means materials

Important notes addressed:

Anything new (including something more clearly elaborated upon) in bold absolutely new will have an asterisk also.
  • 1. Persistant explorable and town areas, instanced missions and some quests (previously, we only knew missions would be instanced)
  • No monster camping, FedEX quests or Loot Stealing.
  • 2. Worlds, not servers.
  • Moving between worlds possible.
  • 3.Swimming, Jumping, Climbing (previously, they said climbing would not be available).
  • Camera closer to your character (or dynamic? -translator note) *
  • Fewer skills while maintaining tactical depth of GW1
  • Easily recognizable effects so there's no need to read your skill descriptions in the heat of battle * (first time we've heard of this)
  • All in all, more thrilling battles.
  • 4. Event chains.
  • All players in zone can participate
  • Rewards at the end of an Event. (first mention of quest-like rewards)
  • Multiple events all over the world(s). (first mention of multiple events)
  • Normal quests will scale to be more difficult with larger groups. (we knew enemies would scale, but this is the first clarification that quests also will)
  • 5. RP and PvP characters are one in the same.
  • Battles between various worlds for strategic positions.
  • World PvP colossal.
  • No commitment required to join
  • Also a GvG type PvP
  • in GvG, characters are modified to be equal
  • 6. Level cap raised dramatically (still considering no cap)
  • Still not sure how attributes will be
  • No comment on mounts yet
  • "robust" crafting system (first mention of the crafting system if I recall correctly)
  • equipment (like weapons and armour) more important role + not bound to professions * (first mention of weapons and armour not bound to professions!)
  • 7. one companion, doesn't take up group slot.
  • alternative to invest your power into the companion instead of your character (first mention of investing your own power into the companion ?)
  • similar to pet or hero
  • side kick system (similar to City of Heroes)
  • attributes of lower level boosted by player with highest level in a group (just an elaboration on this boosting system)
  • 8. improved graphics
  • new lighting effects
  • higher polygon count
  • improved textures
  • no comments on DirectX support
  • SO FAR THERE ARE NO SCREENSHOTS FOR GW2
  • 9. 5 races
  • No factions or divisions (officially clarified)
  • races affect appearance and also abilities
  • no news on professions, but original GW1 professions are inspiration
  • Norn bear-form has totally new properties and abilities
  • Norn fight with Dredge for control of Shiverpeaks
  • ice dragon took over the north
  • Kryta is the only remaining kingdom of the humans
  • tactically, kryta is between all other races and various dragon strongholds
  • white mantle wants to overthrow queen and those following the five gods
  • four legions of charr
  • golden legion unpopular
  • asura comfortable on surface
  • asuran portals for comfortable traveling
  • magical items of highest quality
  • you should not become a pawn to be sacrificed in an asuran plan
  • sylvari are 100yrs old
  • hatch out of cocoons from magical oak tree in arbor bay
  • dream of dreams is a collective subconscious mind
  • 10. no monthly fees

Hope that helps anyone who's getting confused by having to actually read and objectively interpret.

Clearly you're not familiar with how persistence worlds work. I see no information about GW2 supporting your complaints.

Yes the new crafting system will make a difference in whether farming will die or not and since it's mentioned in the interview as being much more detailed it looks like farming resources will be around as well which I enjoyed in Everquest both farming, questing for resources as well as crafting. I'd like to see a huge crafting system like EQ anyways. This one in GW was pretty pitiful and unrewarding.

First of all this is impossible to state when you have a PERSISTANT world where everyone can be at the same places at the same time. There WILL BE monster camping or hunting the same boss when people are in the same areas there's just no way around that. But, preventing loot stealing and monster stealing will be possible by using the method in EQ2 where whichever person(s) hit the mob FIRST has a chance at it first, but, can cry for help and then they lose the experience and loot first ability and whoever kills the mob(s) AFTER the cry for help then gets the experience while the loot they can leave and after so many minutes someone else can pick it up.

I get where you're coming from but, if Jeff Strain says there will not be Monster Camping, you can't say it is impossible because you do not know what it is that they may be developing in order to prevent this. Just because you haven't seen something before does not mean it cannot be developed.

I am absolutely intrigued in what ways aNet plans on guaranteeing there is not Monster Camping.

On one side note, since you can switch Worlds at your will (unlike Server based persistent MMOs), if there are too many people in one World we will be able to switch to a World less-populated at our will; just like we currently do with the Districts in GW1.

QFT

I have faith in Anet to come up with something really clever to avoid monster camping. They have said numerous times that they will not have any monster camping and loot stealing, and I really don't see why they would do that if they didn't have a plan in mind already.

What I'm referring to is the fact of being able to play the game solo - meaning, no need for farming builds and hence no reason to cater at all to farmers.

I brought up an idea a bit further up:

Notice how it took you alone into your own little private instance? Methinks it'll be along those lines.

Yeah, I think this might be the way things go. I've been sort of assuming that most, if not all, the farmable mobs will be in instanced areas. After all, Anet has said that they will still heavily rely on instanced areas as well as provide a persistent world for us to walk around in.

And from what I've read, you guys are over-reacting. All of people in this post are making 'end of the world' comments on vague information. Settle down people and enjoy it when it comes out....in 2010.
