Interview with Jeff Strain in German Magazine
The Great Al
This was stated in that Dragon/Bridge PvE example that they keep talking about. I'm curious as to how 'participating in the event' will be determined. If someone hits the dragon once, will that be sufficient? Or if they heal one wounded person, is that enough? I hope these 'events' don't turn into something exploitable. Any thoughts?
ajc2123
wait...what? What dragon?
SirSausage
I think when it happens, a message will be displayed telling you of the event.
You click accept and then you go to the place where the action is.
Something like a timer should be implemented too, so for example you need to attack the dragon for at least x minutes or do something else for x minutes, just to prevent afk leeching.
When the quest is completed you are notified and receive your reward from an NPC/instantaneously.
My concept.
@above
He meant the timed world events that will occur in GW2.

Simple answer to your question.
WE DON'T KNOW!
They haven't released alot of new information about GW2. While I would certainly like to know myself, you gotta keep in mind that there's not alot of information out yet.

OHHHHH GW2 Dragons....Where was this mentioned?
Bah just worry about it in 09. No beta in 08 anyways so no point in fretting about anything yet.

Obviously, if a guy is mindlessly just casting flare over and over, they're probably going to get the same reward as a guy who actually tried.

but I am a story buff <3 so I would say that |

The "farming" playstyle will be largely dead thanks to being able to solo most of the game, thank goodness.

might not be if there is a crafting system that means materials

Important notes addressed:
Anything new (including something more clearly elaborated upon) in bold absolutely new will have an asterisk also.
Hope that helps anyone who's getting confused by having to actually read and objectively interpret.
Anything new (including something more clearly elaborated upon) in bold absolutely new will have an asterisk also.

- All players in zone can participate
- Rewards at the end of an Event. (first mention of quest-like rewards)
- Multiple events all over the world(s). (first mention of multiple events)

- alternative to invest your power into the companion instead of your character (first mention of investing your own power into the companion ?)
- similar to pet or hero
- side kick system (similar to City of Heroes)
- attributes of lower level boosted by player with highest level in a group (just an elaboration on this boosting system)
- 8. improved graphics
- new lighting effects
- higher polygon count
- improved textures

I dont see this happening with people running aorund everywhere stealing my kills, helping me when I didnt ask for help screwing up my farm, I couldnt do what I love the most with people running around which is just relax grind mobs and explore new lands. And I fear my playstyle wont be included in GW2.

On one side note, since you can switch Worlds at your will (unlike Server based persistent MMOs), if there are too many people in one World we will be able to switch to a World less-populated at our will; just like we currently do with the Districts in GW1.

I have faith in Anet to come up with something really clever to avoid monster camping. They have said numerous times that they will not have any monster camping and loot stealing, and I really don't see why they would do that if they didn't have a plan in mind already.

I'd like to see a huge crafting system like EQ anyways. This one in GW was pretty pitiful and unrewarding.

Notice how it took you alone into your own little private instance? Methinks it'll be along those lines.

best of both worlds if thats the case

This is a weak article frankly, it's the May 2007 PC Gamer information all over again.

But a bit more in-depth. While the biggest pieces are stuff we've known for a while, it's the little pieces of info that matter.

And from what I've read, you guys are over-reacting. All of people in this post are making 'end of the world' comments on vague information. Settle down people and enjoy it when it comes out....in 2010.
