Excellent new missions, a sign of things to come?

I've just completed the Mox quests and I thought they were very, very good. the quests were all very different, employing different tactics and game-effects, like disguises.
One part that really stood out though, was the golem bosses, especially N.o.X. All this time we've been asking for harder and more special bosses and Anet has never produced. Most of their bosses were walkovers, with only a few unique sklls. Whereas NoX has got phases, all unique skills, an achilies heel, tons of damage, tons of health and quotes! It's just what we've been asking for all along.
Firstly he's hard, it took me three tries even in normal mode. there's also several different ways of approaching the fight. With a full team of humans you could clear the bit-golems and tank and spank him, with henchies you can interupt him, you can shut him down using conditions. There's a ton of options, and each has their own disadvantages and advantages. Also, a great thing about this fight is the three phases, it really livens things up and forces you to change your tactics and move around. His large amount of health made the fight last as well, and it was possible he could wipe you. Unlike many dungeon bosses who seem to be just a little bit of health with one crazy nuke this guy is balanced and very enjoyable to fight.
POX was also good, it's a shame his 10-second explosion wasn't an instant death one, like 1000 damage instead of 200 (to make you have to move around and kite him) but overall that fight was pretty epic.
So, well done Anet. These new missions are great! And if GW2 brings more boss fights like those then I'm definitely buying it.
Thankyou
Mazey

Amen to that.

i approve of this thread! i also like how the falls was in the middle of nowhere and despite us knowing about it for 3 years there is actually a secret place under there.
Turbobusa
I'd agree to that when save yourselves will be nerfed.
Took my sin on this mission, kinda random heroes, focussed on NOX. I made it with 50 golems in the room. It didn't even take that long.
I agree the missions are nice, the Jade brotherhood one is awesome, but so easy with the OP skills we have...
Make the missions harder by lowering our skills power, do not make bosses degenerate by doing over 9000 damage per hit AoE with a bazillion condition and enchant removal and such.
This isn't hard, just not fun, and just requires counters. It's been said before, countre =/= balance.
The free stuff are great but they're also a step in the wrong direction: making stuff OP to counter existing OP skills.

I like how NOX has like, 50 skills.
imo, give lots of bosses LOTS of unique skills. It's huge effort, but come on.

I disagree with OP i just played with the builds i always use with h/h and did the quests without any trouble, no different tactics or whatever required.

I really enjoyed the quests, although I think golemancers need to diversify their tastes in dungeon design a bit. :P

I enjoyed the quests, hope there's more to come.

I agree the missions were good and enjoyable(thats the word to use)

Geeze grow up.....you paid nothing for it if you dont like it then dont play it.

I agree with the OP, great time with these missions. Finished the last one this morning.
I hero/henched it (as no PuG wanted my warrior) and had a great time setting up a good interrupt team. Good fun.
P.S. I got to Ventari's Refuge to find runners spamming "1k to the Lair"; made me laugh.

It got kind of boring when the only limiting factor is ridiculous health totals.

The storyline seems unfinished... Do we not get to kick the crap outta the bad guy who tricked Zinn? Awww... *sad panda*

i enjoyed the quests, but i don't see why people are saying that they're hard.

I totally agree with the OP, the quests were very fun and im hoping for perhaps more stuff like this.. light at the end of the tunnel maybe?
When fighting N.O.X, it almost felt like rotscale all over again
i have only 1 thing to criticize about the quests - there wasn't an uber 1337 dungeon at the end, i was hoping for that when i heard about "Secret Lair" but it just seems like parts of a cut paste version of the elusive golemancer (I forget the name of the dungeon)
It seems they could have worked on the last bit a little more.. but beggars can't be choosers nowdays i guess

I liked them. Free quests, new hero, good reward. Everyone who complains is just being an asshat. What other game just randomly adds new quests without forcing you to pay a monthly fee or buy more crap. GG anet. It wasn't too hard, I h/h'd them and the only one I didn't get on the first try was the one you have to keep that person alive, but it was still fun.
hallomik
I went into the N.O.X quest with a Sabway variant build (M.O.X isn't required for that quest - although he is needed for the secret lair). I got pwned very close to the end of the fight - a close fight that I just lost.
I brought interrupts the second time around, and it was much easier. But I do appreciate a boss that can beat a build I've used for vanquishing.

Before the update, i was worried that this new hero would be a joke and really of no use.. then i saw that we got missions with it.. MAN was i wrong. I'd have to say that those 3 missions, ESPECIALLY the Canthan one, were some of the most epic and fun in my 3 years of GWs!
thanks anet, loved em'!!!!!

I really liked the quests and how the progressively got harder. Went into N.O.X. with one interrupt the night of it release and got beat. N.O.X. and another GOLEM pinned the prince guy on the steps so he never left and eventually got killed causing a loss but changed builds and went back. Was a lot of fun.

Canthan mission - easy
Tyrian mission - easy/medium, only because henchies aren't 20
Nightfall mission - medium/hard
Finding secret lair - would've been hard if I hadn't vanquished the location like two days earlier
All in all I was pretty satisfied. Keep it up Anet

Not to moan as i'm all for introducing new (free ^^) content and the like, but it seems the only way anet can make thing supposedly hard these days is by making big health and BIG DOMAGE.
It'd be nice if they could create more tactics orientated objectives instead of forcing us to just bring a load of damage and a load of prot spirit for the "harder" things in pve.
I liked the quests, until it started taking like 15 minutes to kill the bloody thing purely by the nature of its excessive health, granted i suck at pve but yeah. I'd miles prefer say a large healing/armor/defense skill that it had (or something else, just a random example), that would require taking out just to promote slightly skillful play rather than button mashing the red bar down.
Thanks though, new content is always good.

The hero itself is not very amazing, but the three missions that come with him are ones of the most enjoyable I'd played for some time. The Canthan mission is set in a perfect atmosphere, I wish the Kaineng storyline had more insight on this war between gangs on the streets. The one on ToA was very regular, but felt somewhat good smashing to pieces all those tones of metal golems that seemed to have no end. And the NOX mission was a good boss fight, with three different stages and enough power to knock my party out several times before I realized how to deal with him.
This is the way to go, and if the 6-man team ANet has working on GW1 is going to follow this same road, you can count me in for a long while!

I enjoyed the subquests for MOX very much, as they had an interesting bit of challenge to them that I haven't experienced much elsewhere. The bosses were fun to fight, aside from POX or whatever with his insanely stupid health total.
If we got something like this every few months, I'd be pleased.

However, bosses with both ridiculous health and ridiculous damage output --> makes all aspects important, and prioritizes not only lots of offense or defense, but makes intelligent interrupting, intelligent movement, and intelligent heals essential on top of enough damage to eventually bring the fella down.
I did all the quests in NM and only failed on the P.O.X. one (twice, didn't realize one of the Elite was chucking around Sandstorm until it was too late and again when we got bombed by P.O.X. himself), but considering I used a build that I've carved through HM with a similar version of, I think for a QUEST boss, this was a pretty significant improvement in gameplay.
In my opinion, the BMP and the M.O.X. quests have been of an extraordinary quality. If it takes ANet a little longer to make GW2 in order to have more gameplay of this quality, then I'll gladly wait and when it comes out expect me to sign right up.

Agreed, for all the people who complained about "another Dervish hero," the missions themselves were very enjoyable.

I personally found them extremely easy. If need be I'd micro Olias to Prot Spirit the NPC needed, and simply pew pew them to death. Slowly but surely. I was being a bit of a retard using a Minion Bomber though, but it got me through all 3 missions.
Regardless of their ease, I must say they were actually quite fun, even though they were just overbuffed enemies with no particular difficulty.

I enjoyed playing these new quests....though I tend to agree the boss had a wee bit too much health and only required a good ranger or mesmer to counter his long casting skills...and then wand him to death for 10 minutes....
was fun anyways...and the 10 plat helped the armor fund so I wont complain

Agree Mazey, much kudos and praise to ANet. I hope there is much more to come.

i didnt find them hard... at all... NOX was the only one i had to rebuild for just because i didnt want it to take forever ([Wastrel's Worry] + [BHA] = woo). the other 2 took less than 10 minutes and all you needed was [prot spirit] and you were golden.
and please fix the glitch where NOX looks at a different person when ion blasting, then ion blasts the person he wasnt looking at... its not fair to preprot against ;( and my henchies couldnt survive that one hit (and somehow margrid is stupid after i clicked all her interrupts on NOX none of them worked <_< )

I think that the multiple interrupt thing is a mechanic for these specific golems, to be honest.

I also love how there a new Shadowy figure causing havok in the world, I can't wait til october for the chance at foiling another one of his plans. Personally I'm trying to to decide that if i'd rather have this figure be menzies or dhum, or someone comeplete new. This update was better than the Auguest one hands down.
Tyla
I'll just fill my bar with interrupts and hit everything I see then.
Zinger314
I went and fought NOX for 2 minutes, and his health went down only slightly. At that point, I didn't care.

It'd be nice to face a team of bosses, instead of these 8vs1 fights which really limits options on making them harder outside of big numbers (and imo don't suit guild wars). Meaning the foes your fighting would also have a mixture of defense/offense/support characters. I think this could make things a lot more interesting and harder, and rewarding of intelligent play.

NOX would have been a lot more fun if his Ion Buster didn't take so long to cast.

Just done one (work work work!!!) and wow, hehe very cool, love taking screens of me being Jade brotherhood girl with my own weapon sets!! Also, the blocked ways using a tree, hehe simple but awesome, fun fun!
Very good job Anet, now, if every month is like this.. well, can only hope.. :P

Hey good to hear this isn't all the usual whine, whine, whine that this forum is famed for .
The NOX fight wasn't impossible with H/H as you could just spam interupts, fine for a quest boss in a game no one plays as a group any more. However, if they made the rewards greater they could make him immune to interupts, or gain a damage coefficient when hit by them. That would require a full human team, clearing golems, tanking him. He'd be as tricky and require as much teamwork as a WoW raid boss, something GW has never managed.
He was more than those normal "big-health, big-damage" bosses from EOTN. He had phases and his big-damage could be reduced in more ways than just protting. That's what made the fight good.

These are fun tho NOX simply has so much health that a simple Grenth's balance build can destroy him. I wish NOX had less health but w/e. I wish it wasn't such a BIG HP/BIG DOMAGE fight, but it's still fairly well designed and fun.
Not that I care, I'm going to play Warhammer Online tomorrow.

The missions weren't that hard; it took me a couple of tries though. Overall, the missions were alright; kind of boring though. The rewards are nice, however.
