i was merely stating out of context to prevent people from saying 'OMG YOU WERE ONE OF TEH KIDZ DOIN IT'

no, i was not one of those "kids". I do think that players should be polite. the way she stated it in her post was just awful. you do not treat customers as children in your classroom. I am sorry, but my own mother doesn't speak to me like that anymore.

Unfortunately, and luckily imo, people do not turn the other cheek. A lot of people will give ANet crap no matter what, if Regina just let it be, or asked nicely for people to improve, they wouldn't give a flying crap and would in fact act worse.

This is in part due to the whole anonymous thing of the internet, but, imo, moreso due to the fact that grade schoolers are constantly stuck either being bullies or getting bullied, and most teachers do absolutely NOTHING about it. With this, the bullies think they can get away with more and more, and the bullied want to get back when they feel like they can get away with things, even if they are not getting back at those who bullied them. As such, people, not just kids mind you, annoy others - including company staff - whenever they can.

And your attitude only proves Regina right in how rude people can act. If you're not one of the rude people, she isn't talking about you. Even though it can be seen as though people talk about everyone in a large group, they could very easily be talking about a small group within that large group. And that is the case here - pointed out by the "mix on that front."

If she was a devout christian, that is devout enough to follow the "turn the other cheek" rule, then the issue would just continue, spread, and overall get worse and it would probably never end unless there is immense banning.

This actually reminds me of an incident during one of the guild organised events in Lion's Arch, ReginaB was very nice to take time to attend the function, and upon arriving, the organiser annouce that she's there as a guest and not on Arena Net time/work time, and tell the players to not ask any game related question, but there was one person, who continuously ask a game related question over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over!

I think it is because players act like 3 years old, hence the only way to treat them is as if they are 3 years old.

There wouldn't be any update then, other than the nerfing of an overpowered farming build or PvP gimmick.

Although if no-one whines about that particular farming build or PvP gimmick, there's no reason for Anet to change anything.

So whine = good

No you're not alone, not at all, but most keep silent. And many "English" (I'm French :P) people are very polite and respectful people, but I've seen French districts and a good in-game friend of mine is German, and it seems that the CM's comments are true, the English-speaking community is in average crap (but I bet most people are not from an English-speaking country). And people should be polite, players or not, contrarily to what Star Gazer say.

And I must say that Aria's post was most rejuvenating, welcome back!

And also ty to Regina, Linsey, the devs and QA team for their hard word and keeping us informed.

I just feel that if these programmers are being over worked and missing deadlines and keeping Halloween decorations up for who knows how long that it’s not their fault. I think it’s ANET’s fault for not hiring enough people to do what needs to be done. It’s hard times out there people need jobs hook em up! You need them they need you its win win.

Reading Comprehension 101. Please take before spouting crap out of your mouth.

When did I say that it was ok to harrass ANYONE, regardless of who they are? I never said that. Those kids who do that need to take Maturity 101 (with a co-requisite in Reading Comprehension 101) and grow the hell up.

My post was about how Regina had to come out and say that it actually happened. The people who were there saw that. The people who were there are used to it. But for her to come out and say GERMAN + FRENCH > ENGLISH is just garbage.

Please kids, get your facts straight.

PS: I am VERY thankful for everything ANet has done in game. This is by far the best game I have ever played. The Community Relations department could use another reworking, however. I propose for Gaile Gray to come back.

The comment about english vs spanish/german players made me smile.

Making just a comment as PR person is just stupid. Yeah, i'm realy sorry i called Regina stupid, but honestly, it best describes how i feel about it. I would've expected a proffessional spokesperson to chose her words better.

Ugh, Regina never said French+German > English. She simply stated fact: French and German speaking people were behaving much better than English speaking players. Though she is being a bit captain obvious, since English speakers (read: Americans) are always way too rude and obnoxious in GW at any event. But even so, there was nothing incorrect about what she said.

Hell, the very fact Regina always says what she has to say makes her my hero and favorite Anet employee. Fail less and don't be so sensitive please.

Stop being a hypocrite please. You said you're not one of those who she mentioned being rude, but yet you are being very rude, and trolling, on here. I'm sure that if you were actually there, you'd be part of the group that was rude.

Sure, she could have been nicer about it, like Gaile would have been, but really I think that it's better to give the rude players a slap in the face every now and then (I personally would have suggested a temp ban to them for "insulting ANet - don't like the company don't play the game." Of course, I'm not a person who really cares about profits, give me enough to live and I'm good.)

Thank you for pointing out the French part.

Also, you insult me with narrowing the rude "English speakers" down to just Americans. There are more English speakers then just England and America you know, try a majority of the world. In this case, it would be just about anyone who didn't speak German or Spanish better then English were a part of the English community here.

Please don't simplify a rude part to just Americans - sure there are a lot of rude Americans out there (I can be one at times even, I admit it), but there are more rude people then just Americans. If this was not your intent with the (read: Americans), I apologize, but it sounded a lot like that.

Basically, you are saying: "It's ANet's fault for having Guild Wars a no monthly fee game." Because with a monthly fee for three years from about 6 million accounts, would mean much more money, which would mean being able to hire more people, which means GW2 coming faster, and more content in GW1.

For the benefit of paying no pay to play fee, I think a slower release date for GW2 and less content in GW1 is worth it, although I can say a better scheme of releases for the Guild Wars franchise.

Um, lol?
Of the English speaking population on Guild Wars, by and far the vast majority are Americans and British, maybe a discernible amount of Canadians. While I am American, and I hate stereotyping, even I can see the blatantly obvious. Any major event, the vast majority of rude crap going on is coming from, guess what? Americans. Let me give you an example.

Remember back when they changed the district system to where North America could visit Europe and vice versa without having to modify your account? I was on when that happened. And of course, it was all new and shiny, so you saw a bunch of people of each territory go to the other.

Well, I happened to be in Lions Arch the first hour for trading, and I noticed two things. First off, I cannot recall any rude thing a European said, of any language. They were nice, cordial, and all smiles. Americans on the other hand, were often typing in AOL-speak, often in caps, very disparaging things, profanities, statements like "GFTO Euro Trash" and such, and other things I won't post because of this forum's annoying Go Red ENgine censoring system.

So I head to Europe district to say hello. Once again, most of the people in the Euro English district were nice. The Americans, were speaking of how this is the first step of America's conquest of Europe, among other things. There were a few Brits and others getting ugly at this point, but it pretty much all backlashing against the Americans who suddenly filled their districts and starting non-stop BS.

So When I say something that sounds like a stereotype or broad generalization, I say it from repeated first-hand experience, not from moronic preconceptions.

I wonder if this also means they have finally sorted out the way he hands out Zaishen Keys. Its rather annoying to have to hit "Give me a Key" over and over when there could be an option to be given them in a bundle.

Things do pop up that impact scheduling, and as hard as the team works, sometimes even working overtime is not enough to release on schedule. There are also only so many hours in a day, and for the good of the game sometimes a build has to be delayed.

The Live Team has been working evenings and weekends for a long time now. They have been working 7 days a week. Linsey has even stayed at the office overnight on several occasions, pulling more all nighters on this than any other project she's been involved with. She hasn't had a day off in a long while.

I hope this gives you a better understanding.
You guys are awesome, all respect for the passion you put into this!
(even though some comments here make it seem as if it isn't worth it - they don't mean it, just spoiled anxious kids that want their new toy right now!)

HUGE THANKS
Couldnt agree more with this.

Coming off the back of four 12 hour days myself i know just how stressful they are, you are all doing an excellent job! In 3 years of playing GW ive never had a bad thing to say about the game or any ANET employee.

I just hope any posts like this and others like it, will take the focus away from some of the other childish people who dont appreciate just how much work ye are doing.

Good luck on the feedback from this update, im sure it will get a mixed reception. (as all major updates do)

The devs (especially Linsey) must really enjoy their job to be working so hard. It must be a bad feeling to see lots of negative comments about a new update after working so hard on it.

Props to Linsey and the few other devs who are actually still working on GW1.

Heck i wouldn't mind getting the update until next week as long as they release the update notes. Personally I'm mostly curious on what changes are being made so i can make plans accordily. Depends on what changes are made will determine if i'll grind to 35 max titles, or keep trying to get my r8 hero statue.
I think alot of people are more interest is knowing the changes than actually the changes.

I'm female, and a flaming feminist - more than enough to reject the supposition that gender (let alone "institutionalization") has anything to do with the root problem here. Is life fair? Let me check my fair-o-meter... nope, life's still not fair. Do we all get the things we want? Nope we sure don't. Are we entitled to a job that loves us like we love it? Nope we're not. Are some careers still crap? Yep they are. Do we have choices about whether we go into those careers? Yep we sure do. Are they all good and fair choices? Nope they aren't. Do we have to make them anyway? Yep we sure do. Should and would build no bridges.

Feminism is fundamentally about equality. The standard "game design" career isn't treating women any worse than it's treating men - it's treating them both equally poorly. Both men and women employees with families suffer in this industry (and in countless other industries - dare I say - the vast majority of lucrative ones where the competition is fierce and the pool of people willing to put in crazy long hours to get their feet in the door is very, very deep). But it's a voluntary at-will employment contract they can sever at any time nevertheless. Staying is a choice just like quitting is a choice. Neither one may be a great choice, but that's life. We all make sacrifices for our dream careers and our families, regardless of our gender. I'm not saying GTFO. I'm saying Get Over It. Welcome to life. Help change it or get out of the way.

By the way, ironically: G(ing)TFO *is* one of the better non-forcible ways to change it. If everyone G(ot)TFO of crap companies, or bargained jointly, those companies would change their ways or risk losing their qualified employees.

First, I was talking purely about the case of the meeting that was the reason behind Regina's post about the English Speaking Community being rude. On a daily basis, only those who natrually speak English actually speak English, unless they have a reason to speak English.

I remember that day well, I moved over the European districts right away to say hello to my European brothers and sisters in humanity. Right away, I saw Americans acting like idiots. And I saw some Europeans act like jerks in the American districts when I went back. On several accounts I went to European districts because of the rudeness of the American districts. And many of those times, I was insulted in European districts - along with all Americans being insulted this way - for "not spelling the correct, English, way."

Are Americans rude? Yes. Are all Americans rude? No. Are there some non-Americans who speak English that are rude? Yes. And that was my point.

Honestly, many of the comments I read in this thread, especially around page 6, are as disturbing as they are disgusting. Really, the posters should be embaressed for their behavior. I'm embaressed for them and found them humiliating to read even though I'm in no way involved.

One poster had it right, software development is not an assembly line and anyone who doesn't understand that is someone who simply doesn't understand product/software development. The fact that someone pulled all nighters is tough, it happens, but for that person to be ridiculed for it?

If this is the way that the player community treats the developer when the developer is trying to fulfill community requests, then perhaps aNet should reconsider releasing this update. Perhaps instead hang a big "Pbbttthh!" sign on our login screens.

I'm shocked that the Guru would allow much of what has been said to remain posted.

I agree but at least there is plenty of people (more than those on guru I'm sure) who apperciates the efforts of the dev team

And yes, most here from what I have read DON'T understand anything about the development process, nor time schedules or anything else like that, (this may or may not be true but it seems it from the majority of the posts)

for those who dont know Linsey Murdock is on member of the anet team that writes and helps with updates. if you didn't know for the last couple of months she has been every busy and so has the rest of the team.

over the last week though she has been the hardest working member from what i heard, a couple of nights she has not slept or went home, just to finish this update.

for what ever reason poeple are QQing and things about when what and how everythign for the update is going down i think we should all take time, and tell her thank you, and well done . no matter what the update is. she has stressed her self and done alot of work for us as a guildwars commuity

so ill be the frist to say thanks for working hard for us, and we should give her something in return what ever that maybe.

please do not QQ on this thread , just give her a thank you , and a thought abotu what she should get as a gift.
