Well said Risky Ranger, but I think the best thing that the voices of reason can do is leave this thread well alone and just let the QQers that "WANT MOAR" have it all to themselves. Pretty soon they will tire themsleves out with no-one left to argue with.
This issue is dead - Anet has stated this once and reaffirmed it again.

The purpose of the update was not to reduce grind. It was to increase the number of viable ways to grind. Read it as many times as you need to. They upped rewards for vanquishing, making that a viable way to grind, they adjusted FA/JQ/etc, to make those viable ways to grind, and they added storybooks, to make playing missions a viable way to grind.
The goal of the update was not to reduce grind, but to stop players from seeing HFFF as the only viable way to grind. |
Besides, the entire update was brought on because the entire system was previously broken. Almost anything would be better than that....doesn't mean it can not be better though.

Okay, trying to straddle the line here and see both sides...
I'm a relative newcomer, I guess, at only a while over a year in the game. However, early this summer I made a point to push each of my characters through her home campaign (with the exception of two character who I play only with certain of my friends). My Elementalist just got Canthan Protector last month. Admittedly, I'm a bit sad that I couldn't have received faction or money for beating the games, but on the other hand, I don't mind too much. I had fun playing through those missions, though they were frustrating at times, and I found my guild while PUGing through the game. I'm glad that other people can get more rewards for playing the same thing I did, and I'm actually considering going through the games again to help my guildies with their new characters. I'm r2 Kurzick, and I got there solidly through questing and ABing. It's easier to get that title now, but I can't complain, because it's also put me within sight of r3 much earlier than expected.
I understand that people are angry about this, and I can't say that everyone has to agree with me, because I haven't pushed any of my characters through all the games, and I've only got one Protector, and I haven't got any Guardians at all. I can only guess at the frustration of someone who achieved, say, Legendary Guardian before the update came out.
Nonetheless, I must say that I feel ANet is getting too much flak over this. I'm not saying ANet is perfect (Summoning Stones are some of the stupidest things to hit GW, IMO, and I vowed shortly after EotN came out never to use Ursan except in the quest required to further the plot), and I'm not at all agreeing with the economy argument, but I think this was a reasonable update. No one is forcing anyone to get titles, and while the money would be nice, it can easily be gained in other ways. I'm mostly concerned with the general sentiment of entitlement and anger at having "wasted" time in the game or at having to "grind" through the missions again to get the reward. Either way, I wonder at people who feel that playing the game is not fun. If it's the former case, and you're angry at having "wasted" time, think back on the game. Did you feel the same way before the update? If you believe you "wasted" time because you didn't get money, XP and title points for playing, why are you playing Guild Wars? This shouldn't be a chore; it should be interesting. For those that are upset for the latter reason I have more sympathy. Yes, it might require replaying long and sometimes uninteresting missions. However, I don't see why replaying something somehow transforms it from "amusement" to "grind". Personally, I enjoy finding a PUG in Vizunah Square and playing it again on my MM once in a while, just for fun. If it's that uninteresting to you, why not set a goal for yourself? Try making a time limit or testing out an unconventional build. Challenge yourself!
...Okay, looking back on that it seems too mellow to be me. Oh well. I stick by what I said: if it's too much grind, don't do it. I'm sorry you didn't get the rewards, and I'm sorry I didn't get the rewards, but I'm not going to complain about ANet trying to do something nice for us.
