As the New Year approaches...
shoyon456
Does anyone recall Anet's LAST YEAR's resolution to update us and provide us with more info on GW2 in '08? Cause I happen to remember a little buzz going on about that. Maybe it was all speculation at the time, because I happen to remember anet talking about a whole new GW2 website in '08 aswell.
Anways, '08 is almost over and no solid news to speak for, only the same regurgitated general, "dance around the question like Sarah Palin" bs.
So my question to you, do you think it's about time in '09 Anet starts providing some definitive info about what the game will look like? The same thing I believe they promised to do in '08.
EDIT:
Ok, it wasn't a "resolution," but it was a clear statement made by gaile:
We have a lot of exciting plans for Guild Wars 2 in 2008. A lot.
For one thing, you can look for a newly-designed website in the coming year. We're going to launch what will be pretty much a totally new site, while keeping the existing site going, as well.
For another, we'll be showing off Guild Wars 2 in concept art, in-game cinematics, screenshots, wallpapers, and much more. There will be so much to learn about Guild Wars 2, and we can't wait to show it to you!
We'll have a lot of Guild Wars 2 contests, too!
And of course you know we plan the Guild Wars 2 beta test in 2008.
So this is definitely an exciting year coming up!

I think , like many other people on guru that people need to give A-net a break and allow them to work on guild wars 2 without a constant stream of moronic questions/rants about why we havent heard anything yet, im sure that as soon as anything is ready to show us they will make sure everybody knows where to look to see it.Like many other people , i would rather A-net take their time and make the game the best they can and i certainly dont want them to waste resourses putting together some crappy video of early gameplay footage that in all likelyhood wouldnt even look anything like the final game.

There are many other things, but just what the groundwork will be

Yes, I believe they will release something in Q1 2009. We've seen a few GW2-related sentences showing through the crack of their strategy (which seems wise to me), like Regina saying that she's seen the actual game, the newly appointed president of NCWest saying that they were very encouraged by what they saw, or Bobby Stein mentioning GW2 too. And the books may or may not be that big news.
It doesn't change the fact that I'll be patient with them, I can feel they're putting a lot of work and attention in this (too much to the expense of GW1...) and I'm eager to see ahy thing. But it'll come when it's ready, not before.

In any case, I gave up on asking when, 08 isn't over yet and if that website and footage don't come out in the next month, it will early in 09. I'm still waiting...

I hope they tell us nothing till the game is maybe 3 months from release.
You see there is this thing called Industrial espionage where companies try to discover all they can about rival companies new products.
It would be pretty silly to broadcast this information too early, it would give the rival companies too much of an edge.

Yes but if they don't market their game they wont sell it...
Zidane Ortef
There is nothing to market for GW2 is in the works when it is ready to be release you will see plenty of marketing for it
I have high hopes for Anet they did an amazing job with Guildwars and the time they are spending on GW2. They are making an amazing game so many companies out there today try to push things out as fast as they can for money, where as I feel Anet prides it sell in a good product as well as customer satisfaction.
Sony pushed the PS3 out to soon it came with bugs when you bought it.
Microsoft pushes out new OP's and lets consumers find the bugs.
Lionhead pushed out Fable I to soon and had to release Fable: The Lost Chapters to make up for the content that was lacking, and it was years before they brought out Fable II and they did an incredible job with it.
To me this is not right if your going to make a product make it to its full extent and do it right the first time, Which is the action that anet is taking they want to release a good product and I'm sure that they will do so.
So quit the QQ and moaning about GW2 info when we get it we will get it all the QQ threads are not going to make anet release the game any faster then what they are planning.

I have confidence in the A-net team, and will be trying to patiently wait for GW2 :-D But a few teasers would be nice. Maybe concept artwork. Or a Screenshot of the login screen with a pictue of the "known" races...something. But I'll still wait, just would be nice.

Give Anet the time to focus on the development, on fixing issues, on aligning and balancing.
Let them talk internally, about experience from GW so we get an excellent GW2.
Rather that then a flood of information that is only critizised (? spelling tricks me) over and over.
Let them work instead of running around all the various fora that talk about gw2.
Once they get close to launch, let us get the info as appetizers.
For now, get on with ur titles on all your toons.

You'll get news about GW2 when and if there is news to give. Which may be never.
I'm still waiting for news of Duke Nukem Forever.
P.s. - I don't think anyone promised anything for '08. There was a lot of "hopefully's" and "if's" involved.
dilan155
we know GW2s being made, thats it. Im pretty sure even if they tell us nothing that they will sell tons of copies when they launch. there were no promises but possible things, 08 isnt over yet and i think some small info will come in 09 beginning.

::checks watch:: yup, yet another hour for a gw2 post.
maybe the mods should GO RED ENGINE the term GW2 so we can give our eyes a break from seeing it.

I doubt there will be much of any info on GW2 until NCSoft has released:
Aion (come fly with me)
Blade and Soul (big body, tiny head, run fast with flying swords)
Metal Black Alternative (arcade pew pew, with swearing)

Yawn....another 1 of these threads. Been there done that. Got nothing to add to this conversation because everything has been covered countless other times. When Anet is ready they will let us know what is going on. Until then threads like this will amount to nothing.

Where is Faer, and his three words?
But srsly, has anyone else noticed the upsurge in threads about wanting GW2 news? Surely this can't be limited to just this Guild Wars site...

Gaile specifically mentioned a new website (which probably is just the redesigned guildwars.com) and tons of info about GW2 in the coming year, back in 2007. Someone with better forum digging skills than I can find the source, but I'm 100% sure she told us there would be a lot of exciting stuff happening this year. Another example of her over-promising; whether it was her fault or not I can't say.
Unless, of course, ANet gives us all a nice little Wintersday gift of some info, *hinthint*.

First off, they are in the beginning phase of the game. It's impossible to expect there would be definitive information, or the process for that matter.
In '09 the least they might do is a small beta. Otherwise I honestly think we might not know much about it for most of the year. It's a big project, as I understand it. Things like this could take either a year or 3+ years. If anyone wants the game to be an awesome experience, ask for more time so they can use it to add in more good stuff so we all can enjoy. With that note, hope for the best, embrace the worse (being it be the long wait time.)

To be honest, I never expected the game to be released anytime before late 2009/early 2010 anyway. However, I was expecting to have a lot of concept art, screenshots, and overall advertising at this point - or maybe even not a lot, but some of the aforementioned tidbits

Anything bolded out is false.

'10 OH YEAH

Yeah, first they were saying the beta would be 2008, then they were saying Q1 2009, IIRC, which doesn't look like it's happening either. Quite frankly I'm fine with that, as it gives me more time to get past the midyear school crunch and push my HoM a little further. I would, however, like to hear something about it. I'm not asking for screenies/detailed descriptions/whatever as of yet, but some more concept arts or info on whether the old professions are being kept would be beneficial.
Nonetheless, I don't care when GW2 gets released, so long as it gets released (well, preferably some time before I get carted off to college :P). I'd rather they take a good long while on this. I played KotOR 2, and I know how games get butchered when they're shoved out the door too early. Still, info IS a good thing. I'm already starting to see the word "vaporware" applied to it here and elsewhere.

The only thing about GW 2 we know is the... situation in the world 250 years later.
We don't know anything about classes. Level cap. PvE/PvP. Beta. NOTHING about the game itself.

Face it, GW2 is vaporware, plain and simple until they show evidence otherwize. Hell even starcraft ghost had screenshots.
And worries about other companies ripping them off is just stupid, most concepts are already proven or tested in other games already. Really were any of the 10 classes in gw really unique?

Face it people, there most likely won't be a thing till Aion has been out for some months.
AA and TR failed in a massive way, and the NCSoft is not doing well, the last thing they need now is releasing two possible rivaling games of their own at the same time and therefore wasting even more money.

Agree... I mean, Aion is in beta's in Korea now, it's super awesome and I would play it if I could (but I don't know Korean so I'm enjoying City of Heroes). US/EU betas are in 2009. Release is in late 2009, probably second half.
Guild Wars 2's beta will be probably after Aion's Korean beta ends (so after it's released in Korea, before world-wide release), and Guild Wars 2 will be released (if at all) in 2010.
I told you so, but you didn't listen.

I keep seeing threads about other games - Tabula Rasa, Age of Conan, Hellgate London, etc. that complain how they were rushed to market and under-delivered on what was promised.
Yet here, once again, is another GW2 thread complaining that ArenaNet is not rushing to market and overpromising on what will be delivered.
Do you guys want another junk game or something that will be worth what you spend on it? ANet can see what is going on in the world of on-line games. They do not want to set traps for themselves.
@upier - I agree, a thread on 9-rings AFKing would have been more exciting.

Your game is vaporware fanboy.
Qing Guang
I think the problem is they announced it waaaaaay too early. You oughtn't announce a game when you're barely concepting it - that's like announcing a pregnancy to your whole family the minute you find out; it's just too early to be sure anything will come of it. However, if they hadn't said anything about it then, people would have been even more unhappy because ANet would have had no excuse for how EotN failed to deliver. So they're screwed either way. I'd been planning on doing the beta and seeing how good it is... but the beta looks like it shan't materialize any time soon. Heck, if I don't see at least another concept art (c'mon, guys, one little picture for the Sylvari? I want to know more about them!), I'm probably joining the vaporware crowd. Seriously, ANet - The Old Republic already has a few early screenies and it's only just been announced! I decided early on never to play 2 MMOs at once, but it looks like in a few years I'll get to play ST:tOR if things keep going the way they are now.
