um... because anet said that the april update will contain "Increases to account-based storage" and "Improvements to character-based storage". that's why they would do it now.

Don't bet on it so much. The update should come when the other updates usually roll in, that is in the 2nd week of the month.

April 1st will be an interesting day though, I can predict people thinking that the April Fool's event will be the promised HoM update and guru will lit up in flames with people QQing to Anet when they get nothing.

Actually, I have a special show lined up for the release of this update and we're just finalizing dates now, but even though they aren't finalized, I have a STRONG feeling its gonna happen on the 4th birthday

I think the 7 heroes discussion is pretty much dead, and I wouldn't expect it in April anyway. However, I've been hoping for them since I found heroes. No player should have to play with henchmen. Ever.

I still think my money is on some sort of armor storage. People have been begging for it for a loooooong time. A general increase in storage is fine though, I'm not giving them diddly squat and they're offering everyone something free of charge. What do I have to complain about? Even if it's only a little bit, I'm happy just having more space to store my junk.

Just like every other day. Anet should have learned by now that you can't please an MMO community no matter how hard you try.

A way to make 7 heroes viable could be to allow them in all of pve except UW/FoW/DoA, that way could still enforce multiplayer activity in those areas like it's supposed to be. But anywhere where you can run H/H it would be very nice to have that option, it's not like you can't just get a 2nd account and run 6 heroes. Good god at very least make the henchmen use all 8 skill slots with anything that resembles a good build. It's stupid how none of the EOTN hench monks don't have any kind of hex removal for example.

Don't believe anyone is excepting much out of the update other than what was promised. Unlike those that actually believed they'd get a sylvari mini for the 4th year.

I expect just what they said. Just how that will be implemented, I'll wait until April to find out. I've learned to not expect much which sometimes leads to pleasant surprises.

This goes without saying. It happens every time. So much so that it's practically expected. Updates regardless what they are always wind up in a QQ fest.

Want:
Removal of Heroes from PvP (HB not included obviously).
More incentive to actually play PvP (GvG is alive if you have an active enough guild, RA is cancerous... TA and HA are just a joke).
Book storage system, i.e. an extra bag slot for it maybe.
Stacking for items that should initially have stacked (tomes, runes, insignia).
Storage for crafting items improved to hold more than a single stack.
Skill updates that have thought put into them (like March's WoW update).

Expect:
Skill updates for randomly chosen skills, and either remove them from the game or make new overpowered-ness.
A character-based attempt at improving storage that kinda helps but nothing major.
An account-based storage improvement that does something useful like a new tab or stacking fixes.
Hall of Monument changes making people feel warm and fuzzy, and giving even more incentive to grind.
Nothing signifigant related to PvP.

I agree. Expecting big things from Anet is like expecting a deadbeat father to show up on your birthday... too much to ask. I like the artists at any rate, and am glad they can contribute to the game so amazingly. The rest of them that spend their time twiddling with skills for the 10 people that play instead of making content... blow me.

Btw I'll add a nice expectation to my list: information on GW2 (in april even if it's not coming along with the update). I still haven't forgot about Regina saying that they needed the GW2 development to reach a certain point before they could implement the HoM changes in GW1. I assume that anything HoM/GW1 related is one of the least important things to do in the game's development...

But I won't hold my breath.

I think you mean Prophecies or Nightfall. Factions is the first place a hench Monk got a hex removal, as Danika, Sister Tai and Jamei got Blessed Light. Mhenlo in Eye of the North got Deny Hexes.

One of the upcoming updates will address the leeching problem. Not going to tell you what I suggested but at least we know they are aware and working on it

Thanks for your reply and your understanding on this issue. I cannot divulge what exactly the designers are working on, but as soon as it is ready to be integrated into the game, it will be included in the patch notes. You can to periodically check http://www.guildwars.com/support/gameupdates/ for the latest updates. I can say that what you described (as well as many other ideas) is being considered

re Linsey's Page Ok, so I'm posting to shed some light on how much effort is going into April's build. I've been talking a bit on my talk page about how much I've been putting in, as many have seen. Since most of the other people who are working on the build aren't active on the wiki, you guys have only been hearing about my work and I think some are getting the wrong idea.

Generally when people think of the Live Team they only think of me and Joe Kimmes, our content programmer. But there are a lot more people that are either working full/part time, weekend warriors, throwing a couple hours worth of work into the build here and there or even just giving feedback on design/issues (which is a valuable service and takes time and thought). So I decided to post an informal list of credits (so far) so that you folks can see how seriously we are taking this project called Live Team and how much we all still love Guild Wars!

In no particular order:

Joe Kimmes
Mike Zadorojny
Regina Buenaobra
Emily Diehl
Chris Lye
Daneen McDermott
Scott McGough
Andrew Patrick
Elijah Miller
Mike O'Brien
John Hargrove
Sean Ferguson
Kim Chase
JoAnna Frazar
Egan Hirvela
Steve Hwang
Ryan Scott
Isaiah Cartwright
James Phinney
Matt Tate
Randy Price
Stephen Clark-Wilson
CS Lim
Kevin Ehmry
Jason Yu
AJ Thompson
Austin Spafford
Brett Vickers
Bob Green
Michael Hradek
Justin Fawcett
Susan Jessup
Mathew Medina
Reagan Wright
Shawn Sharp
Chuck Jackman
Curtis Johnson
Pat Wyatt
Mark Young
and countless others I can't think of at the moment as well as various remote teams and folks around the studio who do "white-glove" testing (that last round of testing for the polished product before it goes out).
So you can see, it's not just me and Joe. Live Team isn't being abandoned and neither is Guild Wars or its community of players! Joe, Regina, Daneen and I all moved into our own pod last week and we have more people who'll be joining us in the coming weeks. A lot of people are putting in extra hours on this but we all choose to work in the game industry knowing that it can come with some late nights and weekends before a release. This is a labor of love.

The point is, Live Team is flourishing and as long as you guys continue to support us, we'll be able to continue supporting Guild Wars and that is a win:win for everyone!

Hopping back to work now, hope this puts peoples minds at ease on at least this score!

Thanks for the additional info, however sparse it may be.

For those not visiting Linsey's page frequently, here is her lastest message on the subject posted a few weeks back (March 18th). Not a lot of info content-wise, but it gives you an idea of the activity behind the scenes.

Granted, I'm not technically working 24/7 but I am working 7 days a week (on Saturday I took my first day off in over a month). I put in between 4 and 18 hours in a day (sometimes I say I'm taking a day off and sneak in some hours later in the evening) and I've already done more than one all-nighter in the office. For my "free time", I sleep or try to eat some food because I keep forgetting to do that for days on end or I'm desperately trying to relax for a couple hours. Time I spend on the wiki is done outside of my primary duties but that doesn't mean that it doesn't feel like work and can't be just as stressful. After 10+ hours of intense work, who wants to go home and work some more? I don't have the time or energy to be doing more than I already am. Designers do a lot of different things. When GW was still in full production, there were multiple designers to spread the different types of design work around. Now, I'm doing all of those jobs instead.
So that is one big reason. Another is that the schedule is very tight and all the work on one project is not done before the next is started because of how we needed to stagger things to account for the numerous people that need to work on a project before it is released. A certain amount of work needs to be done before anyone can start crafting any preview messaging.
We will be showing you guys more about what is coming in April, but because I have been swamped and Regina is quite busy as well, this will be done in a more formal way than informally chatting about it on our wiki talks or in our journals.
Right now I can't give you more information than "The release of more information is scheduled and we are working on putting it together". Be patient, recognize that we are working very hard on stuff for the game and cut us a little more slack. - Linsey talk 21:22, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

So when players question about future of Guild Wars 1. the answer is because there are only a few of us left working on GW1 live team, when players doubt if there are going to be good content or weather they need to actually still play Guild Wars and wait for Guild Wars 2 suddenly the whole office seem to be involved in the live team ey...

If theres so many people actually still working GW1 live team April update they why do we need to cut any one any slack?

There are 2 "official" members on the Live Team, the rest just does it part time. The LIve Team is working fulltime on GW1, while the rest works fulltime on GW2 and devotes tiny wee bits of their time to help the GW1 team by giving advice etc. Also some of the names on there are QA, who are the people involved with every new update.

In short: they're providing a near-monthly service while we're not paying any monthly fees to them, they're working VERY hard. They're taking A LOT of flak from players, and Guru is quite unfair to them. Honestly, I hope people like some of the harshest Guru-ers will not kill Linsey's love for GW1 and the playerbase.

If we were discussing Blizzard or Mythic or even CCP, i would WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with you... But as Fril said above, we're NOT paying a monthly fee, so just go find something else to play until we hear about the update and THEN decide if its enough for you to come back and play or not

I'm looking forward to any skill changes they make tbh, I'd especially like to see if they change any dervish skills in particular. Also looking forward to storage update, and though it won't happen, account-wide HoM or a second go at the survivor title

Also being able to re-arrange specific items on a monument would be nice, instead of having to hit auto all the time.

O.o I am playing something else.

No, we don't have to cut anyone any slack just because they have come up with a business model that enable them to use the phrase "we will never charge a monthly fee" it is a business non the less that take money from their customers, a business tactic, otherwise they would have to file themself under non-profit charitably organization, when you think about it, 3 campaigns + one expansion X 2 accounts for me is as good as I have paid my monthly fees, okay. So no I don't have to cut them any slack.

FYI, I am currently playing a game that I don't have to buy, don't have to pay a cent except my internet connection and time. I don't complaint that they do not have missions, I don't expect anything from them because its Free and not a gimmick to make you think the game is free, off course they sell extra bonus packages to help you level up, but it is optional, i don't need it at all to advance in the game. You may argue the graphic is probably crappy, but it surprise me too that the graphic isn't poorly done, infact it is the best out of all the rest I've try. I like Mr Dociu's work too much to say its the same quality as guild wars, but it is as close as you can get to.

Ah but you miss the point...

what you have described is more like WoW, which remember has had two expansions so far, which you had to buy and another one that was unofficially announced at the Blizzcon for this year or next which you'll also have to buy, but you ALSO have to pay a monthly fee... and honestly, what more do you get from that business model that we HAVEN'T gotten from ANet with Guild Wars? Cos as far as I can see, compared to the size of the games, we've gotten exactly the same amount of extras...

Then compare to EvE Online... No purchase fee (unless your stupid enough to buy it from Steam), free 6 monthly expansions and only for a monthly fee with is LESS than WoW... but again, exactly the same amount of work from the Devs...

the ANet devs arenow working on GW2, they have nothing more to do to GW1 apart from tweaks and these "Big Updates" like we're about to have in April... This is a bonus, not something I EXPECT because I pay a monthly fee and for my monthly fee I EXPECT more done to the game to keep it going or I drop my sub, simple fact

Not okay, because you haven't payed and aren't paying monthly fees. Or else Anet would have 10times the manpower they have and all our issues would have been somewhat fixed, whenever possible. You may feel "betrayed" by the fact they won't fix synching, but you can't blame them for providing a business model that is better value for money over the course of the game's 4 years, albeit less money than WoW. (doesn't mean better game, this is for you to decide...)
