Male Character vs Female Character
Hammer Drawn
Male
Have both Male and Female Chars
Male -
Warrior - Main Char
Monk
Ranger
Female
Derv
Ele
Necro
Rit
Mes (Cause the males really do look gay)
I, like most, choose the profession sex by what their armors look like. Some just look better on male then female and vice-versa.

Having a look at the pole, it reminds me of the Madonna song called "What it feels like for a...(girl)" from her GHV2 album. I've already posted, but I suppose I might as well post my characters summed up.
I'm male: I've got 6 male characters, 2 female. One permanent female (PvE)

I don't have any female characters.....i do really like the look of the female necros though.

12 chars... why would I have all one gender? D:

Male with all male characters. But when that female ele walks past me with hardly anything on....

Really curious note:
- 70% of the females play females characters only.
- 20% of the males play males characters only.
That means it's more important for a woman to play a character of her own gender. Not too important for men, or we just like see female characters in action, because they are beautiful, or just compensating the real life where "heroes" are normally men.
// Maybe the reason is men like too much that "thing", you know, the "thing" Jenifer Lopez has "there".

Male - 3 pvp characters, only 1 is male. 6 pve characters, only 1 is male. And guess what? I have Elementalist girl with ANCIENT ARMOR (so it has more cloth that all other armors together), my monk has CANTHAN ARMOR (a lot of cloth too), same goes for Mesmer (Ancient...) and Ranger (ancient, lol), both females. And of course my Ritualist is female too... But okay, it's 15k Kurzick, so I'm perverted 12-years old kid. But hey, my assassin is male ;d

Male and male.
I had some female characters, but I either deleted them or remade them male.

Male, with an even division:
Mesmer: Female. Much greater division of armour choices, while the males are mostly pretty same-ey. Certainly when the character was made - and reinforced by the elite Canthan armours.
Warrior: Female. Initial build needed the energy from Glad's, and given the choice of a partially dressed female and a barely dressed male, I took the former. Quickly switched into more covering armours in Factions.
Monk: Male. Didn't like the female hairstyles in Prophecies, armours are similarly same-ey for both to my eye, and it was about time to make a male character.
Necromancer: Male. Can't quantify the reasons why, but the female Necroes just didn't work for me.
Ranger: Female. This one was pretty much a coin toss - one could possibly pin the blame on the Shing Jea armour and first trying out the character during the Factions preview weekend.
Elementalist: Male. Essentially another coin toss - I think it came down to liking the pattern on the (nonelite) Canthan armour, and the male version just has more of that pattern on it.
Ritualist: Female. See notes on the Warrior about level of dress - the Ritualist may be one of the few professions where the female armours are, on average, better dressed (in terms of being more covered) than the males.
Assassin: Male. The large amounts of pale skin shown by most female armours just seems silly for a class that in theory relies on stealth.
Paragon: Female. You know, I was considering a male paragon. I was thinking that maybe the correct matching of torso and leggings could get rid of the midriff without it making it look like the slightest updraft would result in calls for brainbleach. And then I saw the dance. And by this point I'd noticed that pre-Nightfall I had an even gender balance and figured I'd continue it, and...
Dervish: Male. Originally going to be female, but I found I liked the male armours (especially the Ancient) better. Plus there was the dances issue again.
That said, my three highest-experience characters are all female (Mesmer, Warrior, Ranger) and the other two aren't exactly stragglers, but I think that's got more to do with which professions I enjoy more than that I'm playing those characters more because they're female.

Male with both male and female characters. Although I do have quite a few more females than males. I suppose it's because I've been a gamer all of my life and I've gotten sick of the main characters in many games ending up being the manly man stereotype.
Not to mention I think a lot of the male armor and animations look a little goofy and uncoordinated, Warriors in specific.

I'm male, and generally make my chars male, then female, then male, and so my next will be female. I think the 12 year old kids need a life if they spend their time staring at a bunch of pixels resembling an elementalist with no armor on. Seriously though, the main factors for me are what I have already (genderwise), the armor (seen the male ele stuff?), and to a lesser extent the dances (male ele gets a chicken dance wtf?)

But, the sad truth is that there is, more likely than not, a bunch of sad little people who've never seen a girl, in the flesh for real, who get off to their pixellated Eles.
Seriously, girls aren't that hard to talk to
Anyho, yeah, I'm male and like male characters better... I only roll females on occaision for PvP chars.
Now... Dan, Marty - let us return to the campfire and drill into peeps how bad Balthazar/Mending are...ok?

Interesting poll results.

I realize that some people are just pixel fappers, but I kinda don't blame some males for making female characters. I find some of the male professions to be quite ugly...
Like male warriors look like choads and why is it that male mesmers have to be pudgy?
I mean, if I were male I wouldn't want to be a male warrior. Bleh.

I dunno though.

Some of the shirts and jackets are quite loose fitting so they hide their physique a little. Mesmers are the kings of illusion - I guess this is another aspect of that

Very interesting poll results.
Its a role playing game so naturally I play people who are different to myself.
With tabletop rpgs I played male and female whenever I wanted to, when it came to live action role playing and reenactment I played male characters.
Because I doubt I would look good in drag and didnt intend to find out
Computer rpgs I try to get as far away from myself as possible, so I tend not to play 57 year old overweight bald guys, and seldom feel the need to roleplay a retired lab technician.
My female Necro is my main character pretty much been everywhere done everything.
Then come
Male Mesmer
Female ranger
Male Ritualist
Male Elementalist as my next as most played.
Those four finished factions and have done quite a bit of Prophesies and nightfall.
All the others were pretty much experiments in how much I liked the class.

Female with predominately female characters (their clothes are so nice! XD) and one male character.
I've a female Elementalist, Mesmer, Paragon, Ritualist, Ranger, Dervish, Monk and a male Mesmer.

I'm female with both male and female characters. My necro is male and I plan on making a male Assassin. I like the armor sets for males in those professions.

I'm a male with female characters. I'm not gonna lie, if I'm staring at a screen for a long time, I'd rather look at a girl...

female with female characters, except the one named after my bf and my sin...i'm not suer if his name would be the same if he wasn't a guy sin.

interesting poll results indeed...now im curious about the age groups of those that responded.
Its also the first time i've actually seen some relatively realistic figures on the REAL percentage of female gamers.
Male/29.
Personally i do not tend to project myself into my RPG toons, however i do give them personae (even if its not shared with the rest of the community) to make it more involving for myself.
Played SIMS a few years ago and put in people i knew (family, friends, gf, me...) and had too uninstall the game. found it WAY to weird and disturbing.

And besides getting to post polls you get oodles of other perks as well and get to know you contributed to a worthy cause. They recently used the money to upgrade the servers. Notice how fast pages load now?
It's well worth the meager $40/yr.
PS... There's already been a poll on this very same subject. http://guildwarsguru.com/forum/showt...php?t=10102680

I'm male, I have based the genders of my chars on their profession, all my casters are female and all classes that rely on a weapon a male. It just looks right, especially in the case of wars, fem wars look too dainty. Tho i wish I made my ranger female cause they can be haut.
thoth_au
Really as a male, the last thing I want to look at for hours on end is the back end of a male character...mainly female, although made one male necro just because I could.
Lord Natural
I'm male, have both. Sometimes I pick based on how much the dance amuses me, others, I'll look at the skin. Generally I'll either pick a good looking female skin, or, if I make a male char, I'll pick out the most retarded looking skin. Disco male ele, male ranger with eye-patch and hair covering the other eye, etc.
pamelf
I'm female, and discovered that I look a crazy amount like one of the ranger characters, so I started with her. Then when i looked around i also discovered that one of the ele characters was the spitting image to the guy I was dating at the time. Since then I have created a whole lot of female characters, and added some male ones in the professions in which the famale characters were really fugly. (All of Nightfall comes to mind, and the female factions necros.)
Sakkaku Kaikou
I'm male, and I have an even split of genders for my PvE characters. Usually, I chose one gender because I hated the opposite version (/hate male monks).
Warrior: Male. My main, so of course he's male. :P
Monk: Female, for the reason above.
Elementalist: Female. Couldn't seem to make male I liked, so she ended up female.
Necro: Female. Same as elementalist.
Dervish: Female. See elementalist.
Mesmer: Female. Remade a monk as a mesmer, so she stayed female.
Ritualist: Male. The first ritualist I made was a male (think it was forced). Stayed that way since.
Assassin: Male. I like the way the male assassins look.
Paragon: Male. Made up a name out of the blue, and liked it. It was a male name.
Ranger: Male. Saw the way things were going, and made one more male. >>
My PvP characters are just my PvE characters remade, plain and simple, so they have the same genders. My mules are mostly female...but I won't get into why.
Edit: And yeah, I could care less about pixels. "Naked" CG does nothing for me. :P

i'm male myself btw, just chosen wich i liked at that point of the game, i just don't playing with a male dervish :P (man in dress juck) if i'd make a ele it would probaly be a male ele now, those female ele clothes just get way to fake looking for armor... almost feels like dressing up a guy with a tie as his chestplate

I did have a male warrior, but the model was horrible, the armour is ugly and all my favourite weapons being the sleeker weapons just looked rediculous on him. I also have a 2nd perma-pre mesmer thats also female. i did have 50/50 at one point, but with the loss of the old warrior and the addition of a perma pre it changed to favour females.
