It seems to me that you get more bang for your buck out of a new character slot. It’s a little more cumbersome to log in and out to transfer the item via storage, but you get more than twice the storage space for the trouble. Personally, if I were spending $40, I’d sooner get +188 storage slots than 80 of them.
Given the above, I’d say that $4.99 would have been a much more reasonable price for the additional storage tabs. I think maybe ArenaNet’s marketing people should either A) do a little more in depth market research or B) take a course in basic economics.
The other stuff for the 4th anniversary looks pretty cool, but this particular item seems to be wanting.

Don't see what everyone is complaining about. If they never told us about this update and just kept the storage the way it was we would be getting "moar storage pl0x" comments, but once they give us free sotrage then you complain...The $10 storage is optional meaning you don't have to buy it if you dont want it. As stated before no monthly fees=expectations for everything to be free...

am i the only one less than impressed? i hate to be critical but 6-8 months for this? and no dye/tome/mini storage? i mean you had the template from the mat storage all you had to do was rename & reconfigure...no hom account mod (unless i missed that somewhere?).
so 3 things in 6-8 mnths..

This update so far sounds like one big backfire. "They've been crying for more storage for a year and a half now...let's give it to them! They'll be so happy, they might not even notice that it'll cost 5x what it's worth!"
I understand that it takes server space to store items. but those items are already there. Not every account has every storage slot filled...if you take all the newbie accounts and max out their entire storage, all characters, heroes, etc etc...you'll likely more than triple the amount of items in the game. You already have that server space. All we're requesting is that the dedicated players, the ones who have given you most of the money, get to use a little more of that server space.

Do I mind paying for extended storage? - No. ArenaNet needs income to keep the servers going as the game is Free-To-Play. I checked out two different "Free-to-Play" on-line games - Dungeon Runners and Runes of Magic - and both want you to pay for extra storage.
Will I enjoy being able to get new pets without losing the old ones? - Yes. Great idea, and free if I charm and tame them myself. The service will only cost me if I'm too lazy to do it myself.
Will I have fun with the daily quests? - Yes. Something different to do everyday, before I go off to do the vanquishing, dungeon runs, and trading.
So an early Happy Birthday and a loud Thank You to ArenaNet. You've come through again.

Look, you made the comment that the company knows better than me...referring to how much server space they have...the company is charging for more storage because they want to make money, not because they don't have enough. My entire argument was that they have more than enough storage space to give long-time players just a little bit more to use without having to pay for it, seeing as it's a 4th anniversary EVENT and that means that 4-year PLAYERS should get something extra for sticking around.

It's highly probable that they are only giving an idea of what's to come. Why do we know this? first it's called a preview. Second, we know there's a HoM update coming and nothing was mentioned. Hmmmm, could there be more?
There's so much dis-information on here from people incapable of reading...makes me sick. And i'm not picking on you Karate Jesus (even though you probably don't play anyways...seeing how it'll keep you till May), Just using your post as an example of what many people do on here.
Also, I remember people stating they would be willing to pay for extra storage...this is Anet giving the people who want that option, exactly what they asked for. So, if you really want it, get it. if not, who cares! You're at no disadvantage. And if it upsets you that they are adding a pay-to-use feature, seriously get a life, or a job.

The purchased storage is the same, new player, old player, any player can buy as much, or as little as they want, and it confers nothing upon them but a tab slot in a game. Period.
If spending a paltry 9 bucks helps keep the servers up and running and the game free to play I'm all for it, personally. As a 5 year veteran of both SWG and EQ2 I am sick and tired of paying a sub, and I am frankly amazed that this company offers this much quality free to play. Myself, I bought all my campaigns/slots from ANet directly, the small amount I paid over a discount site was again, paltry, compared to value received.
Vets get a unique mini..what more do you expect/want for a reward based on acct creation time and nothing else?
And not addressed to the quoted post Re: the so called "massive" amounts of content available on pay to play games, take some time and read some of their forums.. the single biggest whine in any of them is "lack of content" at endgame, regardless of budget or size of updates. The grass isn't greener, not by a long shot.

1. I am most excited about the pet stable thing. Presuming PvE pets can be "stored" there, I'll be very pleased indeed. In celebration of the "petting zoo," I've posted some thoughts on how to make pets good enough that they're actually worth using (at least in PvE). After all, it would be a huge shame to have this great feature for pets, while pets continue to suck. Please give it a read.
2. The storage update seems underwhelming. I hold out hope for the weapon pack being cool, but it won't solve the storage problem. As pointed out numerous times before, selling storage tabs seems kinda "classless," and they're badly mispriced. (Hmm... let me think... spend $10 for a storage tab, or spend $10 for a character slot with more than 2x the storage space? Dur...) But most of all, I'm left wondering why they didn't opt for more server-space efficient storage. Creating tabs for stacks of non-variable items like dyes, runes, max upgrades, minipets, keys, etc. consumes much less sever space than tabs of "any item" storage slots, and I just can't figure out why the way they went the way they did on this.
3. Given the lack of any preview on the HoM changes, I'm guessing that the HoM changes are probably nice, but much, much less than what everyone is hoping for.
4. I've got a good feeling about the daily quests. Yeah, the idea is totally ripped off from WoW, but it's still a good idea. What I'm hoping for is big enough rewards to make normal play via daily quests a better way to get what you want than grinding for wealth and/or rep points. Why is everyone ignoring the practicality of the storage tabs when it comes to comparing them with char slot or new account? (for the latter you'd still have to weight the benefit of monthly XTH zkeys vs. this extra storage tab) When moving stuff from one char to another on the same account, you have to clear one storage tab temporarily as a buffer. When doing that with different acounts, you need to run GWx2 everytime you want your stuff (given that GW1 can be run on modest computers, not a good idea to rely on such a heavy-usage prog).
I'm not saying the price is right (it seems a little bit more than what it's worth) but let's wait until we have the final offer.

comparing this game to f2p is silly. true there are no monthly subscriptions. but the client itself you pay for, unlike other f2p games. so saying they need cash because they didn't put in monthly fees is a false argument because that's how guild wars was designed...with no monthly fees. it's not our fault they themselves broke their own business model by not continuing expansion content for revenue. that said, i don't think i'd mind *too* much dropping ~2 bucks for ~40 extra storage slots on my main account but i dont think what was announced was thought out too thoroughly...
on top of that i'm really looking forward to dye/mini/tome storage AND stackable runes + weapon mods. since this is just a preview..

I like the update. Zoo for pets I signed on that thread (and probably its 1000 clones) a long time ago. HoM update, armor storage, daily quests, all good. The extra storage is more expensive than I would like, but I will buy one anyways just because Arena Net deserves the money as much as any company can for all the free stuff they have added to the game in the three years I have been playing, the high quality, and the little amount of money I spent on the game for the hours I have put in. If these kinds of micro transactions are the future of GW1&2 then I will be happy. I don't really need the extra storage but people do and them buying some will keep the monthly fee away from me and they get no benefit over me for it that translates in the game. Great update ANET.

Zaishen Quests seem to be a good sneaky grab from WoW but, I always liked LOD's "Diablo Walks the Earth" type event. As we are utilizing other games' ideas (rip-off sounded too bashful) anyhow, it would also have been better to grab some from Final Fantasy as well to extend Zaishen Menagerie. They could make you battle some mega monsters (small skinned monsters) in the explorable area there for some challenging rewards by forcing group play instead of Shadow form debacles.
Don't really care much abt storage, pets or HoM, so, I look forward to some good quests and rewards from Zaishen stuff. The word "replay" in the blurb bothers me a tad bit. Then again game is 4 years old and enuf-played.

I don't know their server capabilities and I do not claim to. To me the fact is they apparently are giving us more storage for free. (Whatever these new bags are.) And then providing an alternative. If you feel you could get a better deal buying a slot or another account. By all means do it. Nobody is forcing these upgrades on you. And according to the logic of buying more toons or accounts actually gives more benefits it's apparent that those who buy the storage won't have any advantage over you. So I just don't see the big deal.

I'm just genuinely surprised that they didn't even talk about the HoM and shocked that they didn't think to add new weapons or new armor (God, I hope they do). The lack of a skill update is really upsetting too.

As for the HoM, they already said that it was going to be part of the content update, they just haven't gone into more detail yet on the preview, because, well, it's a preview... I mean, the storage thing is awesome, but I would certainly hope it's going to be more than a ranger farm and zaishen rewards for doing the same things we've already been doing for years now...that wouldn't be that much of a content update, now would it?

I'm loving this update and everyone else should.
if you wana support anet then by all means do so and pay for something thats overpriced.
@ the few people who dont wana pay the equivalent of a full game just for 4-5 storage panes : why are you mad guys ?!?! you should even be happier than the people who are paying cuz the fact is they are paying for them and for us also
I see it like this:
I was worried about anet not getting enough income to finish gw2 or to still continue supporting gw (which is very obvious from the 10$/tab thing, that or they are trying to milk you just for the fun of it). But now all my worries are gone, alot of people will pay (telling themselves that it is ok and I'm supporting anet) hence we can still play for free and look forward for gw2. People who have money can support the game and we get a free ride XD.
As long as they dont sell things that make the game more in favor of those who pay (example would be skills that are imba and only attainable from the store) then I dont mind. its like playing a game with a subscription but having half of the community pay for themselves and for the other half also XD

Zaishen Quests are brilliant idea if you think about it. It will bring a lot of players to one location doing the same thing, and it will bring back teaming up. I think it will be a great experience to play with other players again, like in good old times

Its nice to see anet are giving us more stuff too do on a daily basis, the zaishen quests and the pre searing trader and im sure there will be more in the future.

But Seriously: I won't be shelling out any $$$ for more storage, since I don't need it. But it's nice to have the OPTION. It's also nice for the bit of FREE SPACE they are giving us!
As for the Zoo thing goes, it'll be a lot of fun being able to switch pets you've previously charmed. The video looked pretty cool, can't wait to see that bit of new content.
The Z-Quests will be a nice addition. But there is one thing that concerns me about it: How will it work when the quest occurs somewhere that the player doesn't have access to? I guess that's just more incentive for people to buy the chapters they don't have - hehe. (I think I read too many posts on this thread

I can't believe people are complaining about the prices. ANet is a business, with other MMORPGS coming out, less people buying the game and no Pay per Month (thank god) in GW, they will need the money. How can you insult a business for trying to make money, if you're that bothered about it, write to ANet.
Personally I think the update will be great, a zoo is a good idea, the daily quests sound like they will be good fun and armor and equipment storage? Hell Yeah! The new Xunlai Panes, I won't pay for them.
