Zaishen Menagerie - is it really just for show?
Phineas
I see it as the creation of a new avenue of grind for those that wish to do so, and give that population something to log in for.

Registering a pet in the Menagerie does not remove it from your party. If you want to change pets, you still have to visit a Tamer to get rid of your current pet. I believe a Tamer will be one of the NPCs hanging around the Menagerie, but I'm sure the others will stay in their usual places as well.

Also, lvl 20 pets sell to tamers for 100 gold, so that will have to be changed at least.

if the menagerie is personal to me (ie. the party leader) in the same way that it is in the hall of monuments. I would really like to be able to display all my mini pets by allowing them to wander around the menagerie using the animations they have when they wander around your character.

I think it's a nice addition, though a little odd. As others have mentioned, it's mainly an addon for x/R Beast Masters.
To be fair however, the setting looks beautiful, and I'll probably spend some time there simply for the sites. And, also as BrettM mentioned, I also have an Elementalist with a Melandru's Stalker from Pre. Now, I wouldn't give up Fluffums for the world. But, if this is a way to keep Fluffums from lazing around in the ether that is not having Charm Animal on my skill bar, I'm all for it.
I'm still wishing that they would put a nice little party town in the battle isles with a nice big beach, a pretty sunset, an amphitheater, and a swimming pool however. >_>

That would be cool.
I like the idea, wish we coud get back pets sent to tamer..like my Melandru's Stalker from Pre. I like that it will be Account wide, easier to do that pet Charming. I am looking forward to this.

I have the sneaking suspicion that this was the off (now dead) rumored “Xunlai Marketplace” area, and was recently thrown back into the game as this “new area.” Why do I think this? It’s due to the fact of how long it takes them to get any major update out the door, and sometimes how their canceled content eventually becomes rehashed like this. Notice how they are keeping the HoM update on a low-key note; because it’s not going to be verily big (after almost a year & a half).
My advice is not to get your hopes up at all. Since we pretty much know that only one person is working on GW 1. I would have actually like to have a new way to get my all my heroes leveled up, since it is already a pain to do it for all my characters. I mean this is a nice addition, but it’s not going to bring back the masses.

I don't have problems with them rehashing certain areas as long as some effort is made to make the place or event interesting and unique(like the menagerie). It takes awhile to make things fom scratch. I hope we can bring other people to our menagerie. The pictures did look a mix of Zaishen and Factions begining areas, but I remember enjoying the look of the Monestary Island so it won't be too bad. I wonder if it will be an extension of our Guild Halls if we have them? I'm looking forward to this it will be something else to do, I've worked to get 26 tiltes and the statues for FoW, UW, Urgoz, DoA, Sorrows furnace (can't get Deep with Paragon :-( ) I like working for things, this should be fun.
Off Topic: It would be nice to have a nice "party" area somewhere on the Battle Isles, but that would kill the servers probably with so many people there at once.

even if they only made it international districts and no local ones, it would just rack up districts every time 100 people filled it

Otherwise just afk for a couple of hours with a monk hero who's got a rez and you're set...

What I've learned long ago is that don't expect much from anything A-net does anymore. I appreciate the update and I hope it will bring something into the game that doesn't involve grinding titles for the vaporware known as GW2 but I'm not getting my hopes up. :/
It's too bad they couldn't do updates like Valve does for TF2....

I don't know what TF2 game you're playing, but the official Valve forums are filled with incessant rage about how broken or crappy the updates are. Few people ever compliment any of the new maps. Plus tying weapon upgrades to achievements only encourages achievement-farming (grinding), and for a week after any major update, the public servers are virtually unplayable because everybody is trying to unlock the weapons.

Here's an idea...
How about pets that ACTUALLY join the fight before I call target, wand something or click on the attack button... Or how about putting a pet on attack and it stays on attack!

I wouldn't mind being able to bring a 'neutral' animal that doesn't attack if you are not ranger and doesn't bring Animal Skills, but just accompanies the party as a pet.
But I hope you can switch unlocked pets with a list like Heroes, at least for PvP characters.

We used to have that! Made it very difficult to plan strategy sometimes when the pets had the Devona Syndrome (aggro everything and if nothing's around, go find it! ).

I saw on the Official Wiki that Z-Coins can be used to unlock Pets.

but seriously:
The Zaishen Menagerie
The Zaishen Menagerie
In a beautiful, lush new explorable area in the Battle Isles, the Zaishen Order runs a tight business breeding and training all the common and prestige pets from around the world for their clientele. There are a few ways you can start your own collection in the Menagerie. Bring any pet with you or your Heroes to the Tamer in the Menagerie Grounds. The Tamer will check your pet's evolution and unlock that tier and any lower tiers. Adding charmed pets to the Menagerie is absolutely free. You can also use Balthazar Faction or pay with Zaishen Coins and gold to have the Zaishen Order unlock and train evolutions of pets for you. This way, you've got several choices for unlocking all your pets.
Pet Unlock Pack
If you're looking for yet another possibility, you may purchase the new Pet Unlock Pack for $9.99 USD / 8.99 € / £5.99 from the in-game store or the NCsoft Store, which will unlock all the common pets in the Menagerie.
