Huge win on this update. The quests are great. Molotov and Blacktide Den can be H/Hed in HM. As everyone wanted it parties formed quickly. This is going to help those doing Guardian no end. I probably wouldn't have gone back to the swamp, but it's a fun mission. Glad I had a reason to run through it.
I haven't ABed in about a year. Again, it gave me a reason to jump in. Only went in 4 times. Lost fairly badly the first time. Had a very narrow victory on the second (by far the most entertaining match). Smashed the Luxons on the third and they destroyed us on the 4th. All on the same map. Can't say I saw the Luxons dominating except for the last match. The Kurzicks were terrible on that one and we deserved to lose. It would have felt like a grind to do more.
If PvP players keep re-rolling chars and getting rewards who cares? Does it really effect you that much?
People have common goals again. It makes the game far more interesting. I just hope it lasts beyond the weekend. Rollerbeetle racing was huge when it came out. How many still do it? It could still be popular but I don't know anyone who does it now. We all tried it when it came out though, and really liked it.

You just praised the badly copied daily quest idea from World of Warcraft.
They also copied the token system with Zaishen coins, but managed to implement it nearly half as well. One must be an ostrich to praise this. |
Why don't you stop whining and ignore it if you seem to dislike the system, and let those of us who like it, to enjoy it.

Or are you saying that ANet are just copying MMO's now and theres nothing original in the game anymore? because we all know that some other games (none mentioned) have copied Guild Wars too and for some, it killed them, so hell, GG ANet for making it work

On such a big update, it's not a matter of black&white opinions.

Respect his point of view. Not everyone have the same kind of fun in GW, due to how rich the game is. It'd be a misrepresentation of the community to shut down people's opinion based on your own feelings, or even that he's in a minority of people (I don't know if he is).

Longasc has been a long time member of the Vocal community and when he agrees with ANet game decisions he says so aswell... So obviously theres something in this update thats stuck in his craw, so rather than put his or others opinions down, we should ask for clarity that may inform us of something we've missed

Quests are nice way to bring people together, and they promise to ease up reputation title grind a bit (1500 rep for Molotov is quite nice, and even nicer that HM + quick simple task just asks for quick pug fun). Which is point of dailies in other games.
Its just the coin & bag part (neither bag nor coins being issue separatelly, but quite ugly together.) that spoils it for some people. As veterans expected to jump in game, do couple of quests and put their prized possessions to bag, which did not happen.

Great addition to the game. Although it seems like 'recycling' of content, what I am finding is that it is bringing players to those specific locations where the quests direct you. Have seen pugs forming and our alliance has been doing these together as well. Good job GW1 Live team! (Linsey, Joe, and crew)

Many things WoW do are copied from other games , same as GW copies many things from other games.
The daily quests are a good addition to the game as are many parts of the update.

I like the idea, but really question the actual implementation and motivation they put behind doing them. With the time investment to get the new storage packs for multiple characters, I'm not really that interested and probably won't bother. I suppose they want to make it too frustrating, so you'll actually go and buy storage from them. But with some great indie games costing as much as one lousy storage tab, there isn't a chance of me paying for storage.

Molotov quest suffered from extreme Leeeerooooy ness. But it was fun.

Does anyone know at what time these quests roll over?
It seems to be some time in the middle of the day in england, but not sure when exactly.

I'm sure he's somehow reaching through the computer to stop you from enjoying it. His point is that people shouldn't treat it so much as an "Wow Anet!" as a "Wow.. Anet.. way to be late to the party." You don't congratulate companies for being slow on the uptake and implementing copied systems from other games and having bugs in the update (who can store zcoins in storage? hahahahahaahhaahahahaha)
Apollo Smile
Looking forward to todays set of quests. Did all of yesterdays with PUGs and had a good time. These are awesome ArenaNet, more of these!
Also Floski, you do congratulate a company when they did a good job. Thats how they know what the consumer likes. Surprisingly, not all of us hate everything.

Good job, but this idea is very similiar to daily quests in WoW...They finally caught on...

Great job... Maybe you could solve the "no zcoins in storage" bug now ?

I think it's an alright way to get people to grind dead content every day, BUT that the bag thing is going to stop motivating people in a few weeks. They'll either settle for the mid size or realize the ability to hold more items AT THE END of all this grinding game content is going to be pretty anti-climactic. I'd rather all bags be silver level, and the gold rewards be done better to really be something special.
Apollo Smile
I agree. The Zaishen Quests themselves are an awesome idea. They just need to either inscrease the amount of coins we recieve, or lower the price of the bags.
Bug John
I honestly think the rewards should be reworked, nobody will do HM THK for 90 copper coins.
I don't think a great bag is worth 83 HM THK completions.

LOVE the update! I'm ready to fill up my new storage pane with zaishen rewards (as soon as those damn coins can be put into storage).
Though, on a side note: Why oh why is Maxine/Harn Coldstone worth half as many coins as Molotov Rocktail? It's at least 3 times as hard to get to them in HM (though easier to kill as individuals). I hope all Prophecies bosses won't be gimped like this.

ANet, thanks for the implementation of this feature. Its been a while since the Guild, Alliance and community in general have been this united on a certain number of goals, and I hope it continues.

Looks like they just kind of randomly decided the PVE rewards. Kind of a shame, but yeah they definitely don't represent the time or difficulty a lot of the time and you have to be on the look out for the easy stuff.

It is time for some clarification. I have to use an older laptop with a bad keyboard today for some reson, so I will keep it short:
Daily Quests are no new idea. So why can't they implement it as well or even better than competitors?
ArenaNet are INNOVATORS. GW is still unique, they have great ideas and plans. This is why played Guild Wars for years. But they usually have problems to implement their great ideas properly, which is a shame
Blizzard are copycats! But World of Warcraft is much more polished and advanced than the spiritual predecessor EverQuest. They copy and improve, they do not so much innovate, but they are great at making good ideas even better.
Still, EQ is following a stone old formula that has a lot of flaws, despite all the polish. Guild Wars has flaws, but I am much more foregiving to ANet, as they really push the genre ahead.
But this time they copied, and they copied bad.
Daily Quests are a rifle, and competitors are working on turning them on a machine gun. We got a musket for GW!
Tokens/Badges are not tied to the daily quests alone in WoW. They are just an extra and the quests channel the community and give them pointers "what to do today". This also works in GW's version.
But while GW cannot copy the tons of equipment you can get as "badge gear" in WoW, we offer basically a moss spider, the fireworks crate and a really overpriced bag. This reminds me of a bombed out and plundered shop in an African warzone.
Nicolas the traveler has tons of goodies to offer, so far we know the staves, the vampiric dragon sword, a very long list of goodies.
WoW Dailies reduce grind and provide players with gear and goodies, vanity pets and stuff.
GW dailies enforce huge grind for basically only one item, 10,15 and 20 slot bags, and nobody cares about the smaller versions actually.
But there is nothing else that the token vendors have to offer.
They could add tons of really expensive vanity gear - but no, they make it the only way to get the equipment packs, which are helpful and for sure not vanity items.
Even the most expensive vanity bag from Haris Pilton in WoW and the special mining/herbalism/whatever bags are very cheap, and the luxus version offers only a tiny bit more storage, 2 slots.
Dailies offer "faction" for multiple factions and help raise rep quicklier, GW got only faction for Zaishen rank, which does not offer anything. WoW factions often offer access to a rare mount or something else at high rank.
There is the chance that they will work on the GW dailies and at least bring them up to the level of dailies in other games. LOTRO has deeds, it is not only WoW.
This is my problem. GW is not going ahead. Does not even manage to copy the competition. I know the live team is small, but this was the big 4th anniversary update. Not much more to come for 2 years, the current implementation of our dailies is unfortunately only 2nd class. A lost opportunity.

Linsey mentioned on her page ofcourse because thsi is the start the npeople are grinding..however becuase the actual items are tradable a market should spring up and people wil lstart selling bags... this will be nice

I did both of them with dual Discord teams for the HM quests. Both were equally effortless.
Valcion
I've done 2 sets of the quest and mission, and was in a group of 8 for both. Pretty nice way to encourage grouping considering people all do them in HM. This would also made protector/guardian titles easier, just need to wait until the mission comes around.
Zaishen Mission - needs help in Eternal Groove.
I seem to remember somebody did a number crunch and said it'd take about 160ish days to get the best equipment pack. So what happens after that? Is there any other use for the copper coins? Maybe add an exchange them for zkey/balth faction option?
