How Charitable are You?
Pistachio
In game, of course.
Myself, I like to take the handfuls of Chaos Axes I get from FoW runs and drop them off to low level warriors in Ascalon, or sort through my overstuffed storage vault and offload some greens that may be getting a bit dusty(all free). On occasion, I'll make up "starter packs" with a bag, rune of holding, a weapon, and some other gear and give them out to new players. Maybe make a game of it.
In general, I try to target those that are new to the game, and not just someone with a vault filled with goodies who's looking for a free handout. It's my way of welcoming people to Guild Wars.
Anyone else?

I never give out items to random people; they simply don't appreciate it.
I DO, on the other hand, give things to friends. Not often, as a lot of people will agree, but it does happen.
Oh, and there was that time when a random person in Lion's Arch was asking (VERY) politely if they could borrow 1k to buy some armor...so I gave them 40k. I think they were pleased

Like fenix, I don't give out stuff, but I do offer to help people with Missions and quests, and I do help with information. Sometimes I have stayed in districts for a long time just answering questions to newbies.
fenix
Oh right, NON-monetary charity. That somewhat changes things.
I do tend to help with missions if I can, and I used to do PvP with various people to help as well, but not so much these days. But much like with giving items/money, people don't really appreciate help (well, in PvP they do, in PvE...they're all selfish) and are just as fast to ask for help, as they are to ditch you and jump in a group after you've worked hard to help them with their builds.

Yep same, but I restrict it to people in my guild....and even then only those I somewhat know...and only if I know they will be thankfull for it.
there was a time i use to go out of my way to help out people, every misson quest they needed help I went to....but so many unthank full players and beggers latter, I've become jaded.
sad really

I'm not. People suck, in general. Until you prove you don't suck, I'm not giving you anything.
That said, I give things to my friends all the time. They suck considerably less than most.

I give out mods and decent weapons to any guild members if they need any, before selling them. Additionally, I give money to people if they're being polite about it. I also answer questions, or guest invite (not quite charity ) in local chat if the person asking is just not getting a reply.
It's just a game really, so I'm not overly worried about losing money. Besides, I've had some very charitable people help me out in the past (without me actually asking, or implying I need gold), so I do little things here and there.

I never help anyone or give anything to people. I've rarely met a nice person in GW so I'm not nice to non friends :>

i always hand out my extra, unded minis to level 1-10 players in noob zones....

I usually never help with missions or quests, friends or random strangers.
I usually never give out money to either, I might loan to a good friend I trust.
I give items I can't use and aren't worth money
I might do a run for a friend, but I have to be feeling generous, which isn't often.
I'm selfish and do everything for myself basically and don't expect things from others, if I need help, I'll return the favor.

I'll help out a good friend with pretty much anything. I usually don't do anything to strangers.
I don't do stuff for strangers for one main reason: Out of every stranger I've ever helped, barely of them were grateful. I know there are grateful people out there, but I'm not going to go out of my way when chances are, they aren't grateful.

Cassette Player once told me to buy him Vabbian Armor or I'd get kicked from the guild. I don't know if that counts as charity, but his previous armor was pretty ugly, so perhaps it was charity to everyone using obs mode.
Oh, and I donate to/assist friends with whatever. Random players not so much.

ill take the time to explain things that people are asking in local chat sounding confused about.
giving out money? no one helped me out, i dont see why other people think i would help them. i never asked for money, i just dealt with it. be strong.
but if someone i sell something to is saying "i only have 33k, not 35k, please?" ill usually accept that. even if theyre in obsidian armor and i can take a wild guess and say theyre lying.

I once gave a guy 40k completely accident, i was stoned off my face. But it didn't bother me the next day.
Ive given out greens i have no use for n stuff. Like in DTSC you kill many bosses, and often get greens, so at the start of the run i usually just drop them on the floor and run off.
Although i sometimes think twice about it when i drop down 6 of the same green, and see the same person pick them all up, that does p*** me off.
Ive given alot of stuff, and alot of gold to friends.
Everythings free for alliance if someones after something.
I rarely help people in missions if i don't know them, but i have done in the past purely because i've got completely nothing else better to do xD

Never give out items to strangers exptially beggers.
Never lend items

Gave an R9 Voltaic Spear that I found to a mate as soon as I found it. Thats the best item I have ever found, and yet it made me happy to give it to him.
I used to do the whole, giving items to random low levels but either they take it and walk away without thanks or they add me to friends and ask me for things all the time... I can't bring myself to ignore them because there just new and wanting stuff, but I'm not handing them everything on a plate T_T;

I don't have much by way of posessions in-game so I don't really give many things away =P
I don't mind helping people out, answering questions, giving free runs and things like that though.
I haven't found anyone who was completely ungrateful yet either ^^;
(Though, I tend not to help people I feel are begging or just being lazy)
While there aren't too many opportunities presented to help people in the general course of gameplay.
I find that most of the time I spend in Pre-Searing consists of helping people
...with anything from opening the gate/getting the res signet to taking them on a tour over the wall and explaining the best ways to kill the charr n.n;

Eh, if I happen to be in the same district as the poor sod innocently asking a simple question like 'How do I get an Assassin secondary for my Dervish?', I'll drop a PM. Usually they go 'oh thanks, everyone in local was calling me a noob'.
I am not so charitable as to sit in a PUG which is demanding I run this, run that, run everything-under-the-sun-despite-me-pointing-out-various-problems-with-what-they-want... I'll just leave without a word.
If someone sounds genuinely confused, I'll explain things if I can. The flarespammer ele sitting pretty in Ring of Fire HM gets absolutely no sympathy, though.
I don't give out money except to guildies, who are all friends of mine IRL, and we do that for each other - I farmed over 2k party points for the boyfriend during - I think it was CNY; he gave me all the DoA gems he picked up because I wanted a Torment Shield (it matched my armour); another time I handed out my extra juniberry branches and they gave me extra chromatic scales, that kind of thing. Sweet/party/drunk points exchange hands between us pretty frequently, too, as do tomes. We're pretty share-and-share alike when it comes to stuff like that. <3

I am almost never charitable with the people I dont know. Never given stuff to noobs, helped them with missions for lulz etc.
With the people I do know, I am almost always willing to help out with something. A tough mission or what have you, I am glad to help out friends. I dont often offer to give away things, but if the need is there for something, I am almost always willing to give. After all, they do the same for me.

It's a very, very rare occurence for me to give away stuff to random strangers. But I will answer questions when I see 'em being asked. I don't often help strangers with missions/quests. I've usually got other plans already in the works. But I will jump in and help Guildies and friends get things done.
sian vela
I tend to give out 50~ golds a week in kamadan... bored out of my damn mind.

I answer ~90% of the queries in AC ranging from pc requests to questions about quests, builds, SCs and what have you. I get a lot of pm's from random ppl who I probably helped once or twice but dont have on my FL, and I try to answer as many as I can, even though not letting them know I dont remember 'em can be a bit tricky at times (particularly when they flat out say "remember me?" :P)
But I refuse to be charitable with items, money or helping people in missions/quests that I do not need. I believe that is wasteful and unproductive for me.

I've done a few giveaways on guru.
In game, I used to do a lot of helping people. Almost 2 years of my playing was helping out people whose name I didn't even know (i.e. mostly alliance people, haha). It was great fun, though, having a whole guild of people show up just to help 1 person with something.
I also used to do alliance giveaways... 25-100k/day. I did it for a while, but things started to die down, so it wasn't as much fun
Oddly, I tend not to give a lot to my friends because 99% of them are incredibly talented players and have the means to make good amounts of their own cash (this includes guildies).
Somewhere along the line I got quite cynical and don't do as much anymore, though. It's quite true that people don't appreciate it, and they push it by always asking for more (I've even had this happen with my giveaway contest on guru). It's kinda sad, but I find that it usually happens with the younger folk (<18).

I've heard people say that I'm pretty generous. I tend to give away everything that I don't need, and after doing everything that can be done on the PvE side I don't need anything anymore ... which means that all my income goes to charity. Just this week I gave away (among other things) a mini Yakkington. It's all pixels anyway, if I can make somebody happy through manipulating some bits on a remote server then that's as good a reason to play as any.
I'm also known for giving (relevant) advice to people who ask for it at outposts, or even helping total strangers with whatever they need (quests, running etc.) if I'm not preoccupied with something else. Ungrateful people don't bother me, I believe that in the larger scheme of things it all balances out

Never gave out items for free, but on occasion's I have grabbed a few Z-keys and went to Shing Jea and gave one to whoever could answer my riddles.

I LOVE answering questions for people, so long they're appreciative, fluent in English so they can understand what I say, and I can understand what they say, and they're willing to listen.
I've always enjoyed helping people. I don't give things out, especially to those who ask. On a blue moon, I might, but beyond that, I think earning their gear is better for them.
Helping with missions I enjoy, though. Since I'm a monk, and they're in high demand for PvE, I often join less-than-good groups just to give them a hand when I could easily do it with Henchman/Heroes. :P

I'll generally answer any question that comes up that I can, and if I see someone trying to scam (offering to buy Imperial Commendations for less than you can get by trading them for superior salvage kits and selling the kits, for instance) I'll call the scammer out. I'll help people with missions and quests occasionally, but usually only when they've been asking for a while and I'm looking for something to do - or when it's a mission or quest I was planning to do sometime anyway, I'll bump it up in priority. If I wasn't working on a thesis, I'd probably do it more often.
Regarding donations of wealth, I usually won't give hard currency - requests for such tend to be either in the 'trivial to gather' range or not - in the former case, I tend to think it would be faster and better for them if they just went and collected it themselves, and in the latter, well, I don't do serious farming myself and what I do get can turn over pretty quickly, so amounts over a plat or so start to become significant costs.
On the other hand, I can be fairly generous with materials (apart from those with values over 1k) - the sort of thing that I figure veteran players tend to have in excess and thus are unlikely to pretend to be newbies in order to abuse the generosity of others, but which can make a significant difference to the new player looking to craft their first max armour set.

I used to occasionally help alliance people with missions back when I had a guild but I've found that people tend to bail halfway during a mission, go afk or leave without so much as a TY. And then the next you know it, the same person is begging in alliance chat for someone to help(hint:run) him through the next mission. Not cool.
Nessar
I gave 100k to help someone w/ their fow, 50k to someone for their bday, a black dye to a stranger & 2 ectos to another stranger.
I've given other stuff away but that's all I remember. I help friends with missions when I feel like it, I loan money etc etc
Why do I it? Because I'm nice & pixels really dont mean much to me lol
What do I get in return? The satisfaction of helping someone :P

I have never given away anything item-wise in-game. Mostly because I am poor as dirt myself, and I've never really come across someone who actually needs it (e.g., those people standing around for 20 minutes, screaming for 50g to open their storage... If they had just gone outside and killed some monsters or turned in a quest reward, they could've had it already). I have been on the receiving side of such kindness (such as people coming to Ascalon/Spamadan and playing games with all the n00bs there with materials/gold as prizes; or just even then people just giving away excess items for free just because), and I have always been grateful to them. It really is a nice thing to do... It sure makes my day!
I always always always PuG, and enjoy going back to the beginning of the game to help others back there through missions and quests when I can in my free time. I also try to help people by means of information when they need certain help with the game, like, "Where is...?"/"How do I...?"/"What is...?", etc.

i give mni pets away now and then and i dont care who gets em can be same person for 10 different ones they are usually 1st or 2nd years pets ive gotten twice and dedicated the first and dont want the second one. ive had people try to just give me stuff when on my low levels and truthfully i dont need it been playing four years now.i did have one guy mad when i said nty. he started cussing me out cause i wouldnt take his green. i appreciate his kindness but not everyone you give too needs it man. he didnt even ask in local chat so i always ask who wants such and such item if no one respond i throw em in thrash not gonna force someone to take em
