Gave a mini (Ceratadon IIRC), Claws of the brotherhood and boose to a friend who returned the favor, gave a few little things to allies who needed them. I think helping newbies is the best thing we can do in the game, or in the Q&A section of Guru ofc. And giving a bit of our time to help on mishs/quests too.

Wow! An open response by a reliable Arena-net member that keeps secrets about monthy updates (WTB Spoilers, I hate not knowing the unknown!)

Speaking of wanting answers, how many people are working on GW1? Are thier going to content updates like april anymore? Are you going to condiser suggestions? With all the people are working on GW2, I'm expecting a GTA3 to GTA4 kind of deal, a OMFG pure awesomesause on GW2. I hope you aim to please

On topic:

Myself, I'm very charitable. Yesterday (literally), I was talking to this guy buying a dragon sword (?). So I went off and bought a icy dragon sword at Droknars for 12k, come back, sold to him for 10k, along with a fiery dragon sword and green shields that were standing in storage. Grateful about giving him the extra items, we get on the topic of vampiric dragon swords. Not knowing about the traveler, I offered to help him get his claws. Sure enough we got to Nicholas and... Nothing good. I guess I was bored or something so we travel to droks and I give him 5 blue dyes, 5k, 200 iron ingots and 32 scales for his new Wvyern Armor to much his Icy Dragon Sword.

I don't know why I helped, and he is just one of the many. I don't know karma exsits or not, but I want my cookie!

I don't give anyone any money, but rather if they're looking for an item I'll give it to them for free. If its an expensive item I'll ask for something I'm after in return (always of a lesser value, like a few lockpicks). I'll frequently answer questions from confused players in towns, and if someone is new and comes back to ask for advice a few times I'll tend to focus my attention on them more than others. Really it depends if those wanting stuff are grateful in receiving stuff.

In terms of giving out gifts i find myself giving tomes to those who don't have skills. Even if the group fails in the first 5 minutes...
i tend not to give some weapons as it gets abused by newbs thinking theyre oh soo powerful

I give stuff to friends/guildies quite often, never to random strangers. I do help out random people if I'm bored but that's not by giving them gold/items.

I generally only give stuff to my alliance and stuff. In the cases where I can't give something away, I tend to realise it's worthless and just merch it.

In my last guild, I used to give out 'newbie assassin packs'. It consisted of a Claws of the Broodmother, 5 assassin tomes and 5 orange dye, so the lucky assassin could dye his armour orange like Naruto. Sometimes, they'd get an elite assassin tome thrown in also. Depending on how the raptor farming had gone, of course.

I used to be a super generous person, buying people armor, running them, only logging on to do stuff for alliance/guild mates who asked for help. I'd take in people new to HA and help them with bars, skills etc too.

Then it got annoying. I buy good friends stuff all the time but not before I buy something for myself.

It's quite hard these days to give items away (to strangers)....
Now I'd rather merch a weapon worth a few k instead of trying to find someone, because:
- Either that someone just turns around and tries to sell the weapon
- More than 1 will whisper me and I have to tell the others how "sorry" I am, that the item is gone.
- You will get whispered all the time by the person you gave the item

But for me charitable doesnt mean that you hand out expensive weapons or huge sums of money. That is easy and doesnt take a lot of effort..

Sometimes I just stand in town and answer people's questions, help someone cap a skill if he asks nicely, help out with a few materials for the first new armor, etc.

I don't give away money, at least nothing above 1k. In most cases just a few gold coins so that they can open their storage, or maybe a few 100 gold for a skill they really need

I give / gave away some Minis and weapons to friends ... but that's all...

If somebody is getting abused in all chat, I tend to help them out with Q&A or if they are asking for builds/methods for missions and im bored enough I'll just run them through.Sometimes give out items though, never money.

As for what ppl have ever given me, the most I can think of is one guy was desperate for a luxon guest invite and he gave me 2 Z keys. Noobs I help out usually try thanks me by giving me all their money, usually in the 2k and under range, I just reject those, cus I know it'll screw them when they go to buy their max armour,, and I know I'll prolly just use it for something random like re-dying my armour.

Also I like to do those random quizes with like Z keys up for grabs or random green/gold items.

I also NEVER give to beggars, in fact I despise them, the dude standing in the corner spamming how he needs 14k for his primeval, I give them the go farm like every1 else treatment

Lol I agree with Chocobo, When I give things to newbies, they rarely appreciate it, but when they do they always decide to add me to their friends lists, and then constantly nagging about stuff in the game. I dont mind answering the first few questions but when theres 100 being asked one after the other, it gets slightly annoying

The boyfriend wanted to buy me a tormented shield outright; I refused to let him. (Well, I was fairly adamant about it up until I farmed 2k party points for him.)

Yeah - I can understand newbies wanting the 50g for storage; it's the people who expect you to fork out cash for their elite armour set (which they can jolly well save up for like everyone else) that make me go O_o.

Oh, but one of the nicest things I did see ingame was back when I first started playing; I was in a group with a warrior who was still in presearing armour around Yak's Bend, and was dying really rather fast. The group, puzzled by this, finally asked him what armour he was wearing, and when we figured out it was presear armour, we suggested he should get a better set.

To this end, the leader zoned back to town, and everyone chipped in a little for the guy's new armourset - a bit of cash, a couple of mats, etc before going off and finishing the quest with the surprised warrior.

I have a dye mule with a few upgrades on him too.
I do give away dye when I'm in the mood and someone asks, except for white and blacks.

I help on quests and missions if I get the feeling the one asking is uncertain so it's not just some lazy person.
I do give away gold on ocassion if that does help the other to get that armor or weapon ...
I have a crafting material mule, so I do give away crafting materials that I can get again fast, like bones, cloths, hides, iron, wood.

I am here to play the game and socialize, I'm not playing GW to show off or have millions in ectos - which in either case won't do me any good at all.
And I do hope, if I ask for assistance, that people come and help.

Not to forget, that I do give information for free to and do expose scammers when I see them, or run ppl when I can and the runners in the area do ask for more then the run is worth.

My experiences are similar to many other described here, but I think my perspective may be slightly different. As a new player, I received quite a bit of help, both material-wise, and as advice/quest accompaniment from more experienced players. As one example, when starting out a Sin char, some kind soul gave me a nice green dagger, several useful Sin runes, and 1k to boot! It made quite an impression on me with my lvl 3 Sin.

Since then, I've made it a point to return the favor as often as possible. In fact, just yesterday, I was selling some things in Ascalon and there was a nice post looking for any type of low-level W items for a new player with a lvl 4 Warrior. I gave this individual a beautiful gold sundering axe of fortitude and some runes to go with it. This player was ecstatic. I asked for just one thing in return - BE NICE TO OTHER PLAYERS. That's all.

Sure, I've gotten burned a few times by the ungrateful and/or scammers when being charitable. To me, however, those creeps aren't worth getting steamed over.

I'd rather give away some items I'm not using anyway to people who may not deserve them, than to become so jaded that I refuse to help the decent people out there who are just getting started. You see, my feeling is that the experiences new players have when starting out may shape their GW personalities. Start them out with a good feeling, and they're far more likely to become the types of players we all want to play with.

See you all in the game!

For random people I don't know:

I do things occasionally when I'm in a good mood. I off-load extra greens in Shing Jea or Ascalon to low level characters as just nice freebies.

I give away my extra minipets, or minis I don't want to keep, both dedicated and undedicated. First come first serve; again usually in Shing or Ascalon.

I give people money to open storage.

I answer questions and lend a helping hand. I do missions and quests when people need a hand. I help with build suggestions.

For guild and alliance members:

I've bought friends full sets of 15k armor

I horde dye and tomes so if anyone ever needs some, all they have to do is ask

I farm event collectibles so we can share in the spoils of the finales together

I buy people gifts on their RL b-days. This actually something everyone chips in on and we throw a party in one of the guild halls for that person.

All in all, I tend to be a giving person when I have time and when I'm in a good mood.

I give things to friends and guildies. I'll sometimes answer questions, but I'm rarely in outposts for long.

Perhaps I'm a bit strange, but I don't like it when people try to give me stuff. One of the reasons I play the game is to earn things on my own--that's important to me. On occasion, I've had people run up to my lower level characters and initiate trade, without so much as a "hello." That's not helpful, it's annoying. I'm sure most of you announce that you have goodies and let players initiate trade with you. That's the best way to to it.

I am sort of the New Member Helper in our Guild.
Help them learn the game and get started. I offer to help them with missions and quest but explain the learning/fun factor is taking low level characters through with pugs or henchies.
They also get 10K for new armor and green weapon.

Hmm to guildies and allies, I basically give them whatever they need. Stacks of stuff, ecto, zkeys, tomes, elite tomes, green weps, the list goes on and includes money as well. If I have the junk lying around and don't need any of it, then why not give it out to others?

With strangers, I'm a bit more careful considering most of them take your kindness and turn it into their own personal shopping center. But most of the time everyone is polite about it and actually thank you.

When I raptor farm I tend to drop everything so the leechers can pick up the drops, mainly because most of them are useless and it's nice to be nice.

People were charitable to me when I first started out, so I tend to be on the charitable side myself, and it's my personality anyway.

I give my guildies all sorts of free stuff when I can. If I farm extra collectables that Nicholas wants that week, I'll give them away. Sometimes I'll even make sure to get an extra set, but other guild members do that as well. Thank god I didn't have to farm chromatic drakes.

I do give away things to new people in Ascalon, especially if they're asking questions that peg them as a new player. I'll give them weapons and such that correspond to their character class, but I never give anything away to people begging. That just drives me insane. I also help answer questions because it irritates me when someone asks an honest newbie question and recieves back all these smart ass answers. Even as a player that's been around for a year and a half, I still hesitate to ask a question in open local chat.

So yes, I tend to be charitable to the best of my ability and funds.
