What's The Stupidest Thing You've Heard While Playing Guild Wars?
cormac ap dunn
Had a brilliant individual in JQ yesterday, complain after a loss of 10-9, and then call everyone "noob". As is expected, he was of course running a terrible build, dieing within a second and accomplishing very little in the moments he was alive.
After a brief PM to let him know the game was close, I get the "your bad" "noob" barrage I always expect when informing our ever so vocal, and increasingly more ignorant players of a simple fact, he proceeds to tell me "I'm on Guru, look me up.".
Now I've seen a lot of elitism lately, from the "no50/50?nooblolzhahaha" types to the "4billion stones ushownow" types and everything in between. This fella takes the prize. Just for the fun of it I looked him up... Know what I found? That's right, NOTHING. Just when i was sure that people couldn't get any dumber this fella comes along and gives me a big shot in the arm. That's right Guru, typing, merely being here has made us all AMAZING. Now I won't deny, being on here does make us rather amazing, but that elite? That's right THAT 1337!1!!! I had to chuckle after that little exchange. My ignore list is getting more use then it ever has before.

You should have known he was full off crap right then and shouldn't have bothered to try looking him up. He is apparently so bad at the game and has so little clue about the community that he thinks that only good players can have GWguru accounts.
Not really stupid, but funny. Happened last night during the zombie apocalypse that was in RA:
And we had the pleasure of seeing this wonderful person try to cause drama because he was upset that the people enjoying the minion party in town were having more fun in the outpost than actually PvPing. And of course he tries to throw some trolling in there, but nobody really cared.

We were doing the Khabuus ZB yesterday when the Necro in our group died. The leader of the group decided he should just be left for dead because he wasn't a MM. We ended up doing almost all of the first level with only 7 players because nobody rezzed him (I didn't have rez or I would have).

MMO Player
Ok although I just got around to buying the game back at the beginning of September, I have played off and on at a friends house on an extra character slot. So I already knew a bit about the game. I still consider myself a noob and help others when I can.
So about a week or so ago I am working on leveling up my primary character when this fellow player meets me in Ascalon and starts chatting. He is impressed I have MOX and wants to get one. I told him I was heading over to Lion's Arch and he says he NEVER been there. So right away I think, ok I will run the noobie over and show off a bit.
After he agrees to follow me, I end up waiting on him right outside the gates as he is AFK for about 5 minutes. I figured it was a pee break prior to the run. When we got to Grendich Courthouse he goes AFK for awhile and I am about to give up on him. But he returns and I tell him to set his character to follow mine if he has to leave the keyboard again. How do you do that? I explain that if he clicks my name on the list and hit space the character will auto follow.
When we got about half way to Yak's Bend, I asked how long he has been playing GW? He replies 2 or 3 years now...
UH.... seriously? This was taking much longer than it should have.
So once I got him to Yak's Bend I told him that I had to go somewhere (which was totally true) and I would call a friend (the one mentioned above) to run him the rest of the way. No sooner than I called my friend this guy drops offline but not before he left an invite to his guild.
The guild was practically non existent just himself and 4 others he wasted gold on to invite. I don't remember his name but this was the very first person I met since the purchase of the game. My friend said nothing like that ever occurred with him.

Its douche-baggery at its finest. Even if he wasn't MM what about SS?, FoC?, MoP? Having that 1 extra damage dealer helps kill shit unless he was running some god awful build or leeroying everything in sight.

That been said in almost all teams of 8 you can do with 7 or even less the difference being it will take more time. Also giving someone a free run because you don't like his build isn't the smartest thing you can do..

Needless to say, not even ANET employees are exempt from bans. In fact, if someone under ArenaNet was doing something bannable, I would think they would get banned even faster than a normal player, as I highly doubt the company wants bad PR because an employee thought they could get away with anything they wanted.

This guy wanted to buy alcohol, i said i had some for 100g a point. I offerd it and he asked me if any were more than 1 point. I said yeah the aged are 3 points.
He offerd me 6k for 30 aged hunters ale and 30 normal hunters ale. Seeing im not here to scam ppl i said that it is 100g a point. Instead he offerd me 9k and i again said 100g per point. Then he offerd me 18k for the lot. Then i gave up and just hit the 'accept' button.

He didn't scam him.
He told him at multiple times that he was charging the specific price of 100g per point. It's the buyer's problem for giving more, as a seller, your more than happy to make more money, right ?
If the buyer decides that no, he is paying 18k for (30*300)+(30*100) = 12,000 gold coins worth of alcohol, than yes, it is his (the buyer's) problem.

Selling materials for more than the price of the trader is taking advantage of ignorance, because not everyone (particularly new people) knows to check the material trader often.
Selling something for a certain price and the buyer getting the price wrong because he can't do math? That's his own damn fault.

Why should he? If he sees an opportunity to make a nice chunk of change because the buyer is uninformed, or uneducated in math, why is it the sellers fault? Sure, I would have corrected him, and sold it for the correct amount, but if it were me buying and I added up to 18k when it should be 12k, I'd call myself an idiot for making that mistake.
Shanaeri Rynale
Not really stupid per se, but rather too trusting. I was buying booze in kamadan a few weeks ago when I saw someone selling 4000 odd points, price was reasonable so I said sure. They wanted cash so I said ok we'll do it in lots of 100k. They refused said they wanted it all in one go, told em that wouldn't work so they offered all the booze at once up front and then I'd pay...
Spent about 10 mins explaining to them why that was a bad idea, cash limits and the right way to do trades. Hate to think what would have happened if someone less honest had tried to buy them.

I laugh every time I see someone use nub for noob. I was on the internet when it was a command prompt. It all started with calling people Newbies. Well, everyone was a newbie back in the 90's so it was not a derogatory term. Later it got shortened to noob but still with the pronunciation of newbie. Late arrivals to the internet thought that noob was pronounced like the word rube or tube.
The shortening of the word to nub makes me think of the person using it is a lazy and ignorant person who not only does not know the origins of the netspeak word but cannot even be bothered with typing 4 letters instead of 3.
Essence Snow
^^ I'm going to have to go with "Jelly". To me this is beyond stupid. I immediately think of 12yr olds when I hear/see this term. For those trying to act older and for those who are older, the use of this term conveys immaturity at it's best.
Saint Scarlet
Have to agree with you there LordDragon.
Newbie was the original term and is still used to describe someone who is new to the game. Noob on the other hand is, yes, mispronounced but also it is meant to be as the general derogatory meaning to most people, is someone who isn't new but acts like they are. And i have to confess i use nub myself but when i use it, it's always in a tongue in cheek way, generally calling my mates nubcake(go figure).
Also another misused term is the FTW term which got changed from the early days of the 80's and 90's from F@@@ The World to For The Win, still makes me chuckle every time i see this as i know most don't know it's true origins.

Maybe scam isn't the correct word but he definitely took advantage of him. He knew he had 12k worth of alcohol but he kept saying "100g per point". Why not just tell the buyer 12k when he was able to tell the buyer was having problems with the math?

That reminds me. This kid in our alliance once asked for a run to the Sunspear Great Hall.
Assuming he just needed help getting into NF, we asked what town he was starting from and we were prepared to give him directions to Kaineng or Lion's Arch. He said he was in Kamadan and wanted someone to run him to the Sunspear Great Hall. We just laughed.
I told him that if he was still level 1 then he might need help, but if he was level 2 or up then he could make it on his own. He said he was level 20.

Isn't buying for less and selling for more than something is worth "taking advantage"? If someone wants to buy Ecto for 8k while he can do it at trader for 7k, would you really say "oh, I'll sell it for trader price"?

I once saw a guy selling Feathers (like 50 stacks) for 2k under the (then) current price, I could've made an easy 100k off him, but instead I pm'ed him that he was selling for too little and he should ask more, he thanked me and raised his price. And yes, if someone would buy ecto for 8k and I knew it was 7k at the trader, I would pm him saying that he can buy it at the trader for 7k. It's called 'being nice'.

LOL, i wish i could say that he was, but he wasn't. This child is famous in our alliance for asking for help with every little tiny aspect of the game. He's about 10 or 11 years old and simply too young for the game and too gullible. He'll believe anything a stranger tells him.
Once he spent time on alliance chat begging us to run him to Yak's Bend. He said he wanted to create a Dervish/Assassin and he needed to get to Yak's Bend!! After a while we asked why he wanted to reach Yak's so badly and he just kept repeating that he wanted a D/A!!!!!! I told him he needed to create a Dervish in NF. He then got angry and insulting. He told me to shut up and that he knew that much. He wanted someone to run his Dervish from Kamadan to Yak's so he could make a Dervish/Assassin!!!!!!!
It turned out that someone had told him you can only unlocked the Assassin secondary in Yak's and he believed them. We told him that wasn't true but he just told us to shut up. We had enough of the insults at that point and told him if he wanted to get to Yak's so bad to run himself and that a level 20 dervish could get there with no problem. We didn't bother to tell him how to unlock an assassin. He'll figure it out when he reaches Yaks.
