In game Twitter integration.

Send and receive Tweets in game, a queue for sending tweets later on if in the middle of doing something, and a way to send screenshots by choice or automatically through TwitPic.

If you don't use Twitter, then don't use it.

Interesting idea!

I recently started using Twitter, I just wonder if this feature would really be worth it. But I have heard quite some people making suggestions to integrate Twitter not only in GW.

Really? It's not hard to Alt-Tab out of the game to type a < 140 character status.

Not worth the developer time, in my opinion.

I'm not always logged into Twitter, yes it's hard when you computer isn't very fast, and I don't always have a browser open (and I'm sure other people are similar). So you point isn't very valid.

Also, like most people here, we (likely including you) don't know how long it takes to add any feature.

We don't need another stupid thing implemented into this game.

Twitter is a time waster. Seriously why do people need to know what you do 24x7?

Guild Wars is not Twitter. They have nothing in common. We don't need email integration or map quest or google or twitter or anything other than the game. Users who wish to use both at the same time may use the amazing capability of executing multiple programs simultaneously. Besides, it's more likely that bloating GW with pointless browser crap would consume more resources than executing the game and a browser separately.

I want a Twitter. Hell I'm going to make one soon, but that doesn't mean it should be implemented in the game when you can just quickly minimize your game every hour or so to type a small message.

Twitter intergration wouldn't involve a browser. There's a Guild Wars Twitter, so I don't think that means Twitter users are emo. And MySpace has very little in common with Twitter if anything.

If they do this, I want them to also implement an ingame addition for MS Word, so I can type homework assignments ingame while I'm doing stuff. At least that would be productive.

Big fat /notsigned. This idea is pointless. GW doesn't need to become an operating system because people don't want to wait 5 seconds while alt+tab cycles.

Relax guys. The OP just wanted Anet to copy from Blizzard, a thing that isn't, to say the least, so far fetched. If you don't know about the new feature, visit this link, ta dum. If you're too lazy to do that, then I will give you the short version; WoW + Twitter + ingame & outgame features.

Basically it's not worth it for GW. The game is dying (now all the deniers will say the other way, but this is my personal feeling so screw them) so there's nothing to twitter about. Imagine the kind of tweets...(the one's that're created automatically) : "Character Name just logged in Great Balthazar Temple (5 mins afterwards) Character Name just logged out". or the ones that're created manually : "VQing , ABing :P, doing some HM missions now lol ...VQing again XD". That's your average PVP and then PvE player right there.

I'm afraid that after playing some other video games, you get a very good feeling that GW is seriously outdated. Not graphically but mechanic and goal wise. I prefer that Anet will devote as much attention to release, the currently vaporware, GW2.

Edit: Wow, got semi-ninjad by GouranagaPizza.

if the devs were to come out and say that they had implimented twitter, it would piss a lot of people off. there are far more important things in the game to be done then twitter. a proper skill balance, xunlai house, large content update.

if you think twitter is something that needs to be put in gw then... your gay... there, i said it

Twitter isn't that great to implement in-game :P

BUT I'd LOVE an in-game messenger program that can connect to Yahoo Messenger, AIM, MSN, etc.

Wouldn't that be better? At least you don't have to keep GW in window mode or alt-tabbing all the time.

Some Steam games like TF2 allow web browsing in game without being "bloated." Nobody complains about that. And again, we don't know how much effort it takes to add such features to a game.

I do use MSN, and there are lighter clients than Windows Live Messenger. Maybe. Switching between GW and MSN isn't so easy all the time and it would be nice to tell people to come online into GW to play with myself and others.

As for Tweets being useful. That all depends individual to individual. Some people Tweet about everything they do and others share news or interesting finds they've come across. People follow people who they find interesting.

This kind of feature (invaluable to some, useless to others) is why the ability to mod game interfaces and such is so critical. Is it possible for a user to build this into GW?

At any rate, I can't imagine much progress will be made on features like these with the backlog of work to do currently in existence. For those with the desk space, dual monitors + GW in a window is awesome.

Like what I've iterated in my earlier post that have disappeared out of blue; Twitter is redundant in GW. Supposedly if GW has Twitter, you will only use it while you are not playing it at all. Okay maybe you will use it while waiting to get in to next round of RA/TA/JQ/FA/HA/AB but I believe there is a feature which allows GW sounds to play in background even when minimized to indicate whether the wait is over. GW is pretty moderate in memory usage for you to ALT + TAB quickly.

Twitter lets you post short instant messages to the world
Telling Friends Family homicidal stalkers and the word in general what your doing from moment to moment.
The in game chat lets you do the same to people in the game though you get canned for spamming off topic crap.

So if I used twitter in the game I could what ?
Tell the world I was playing guildwars and what I was doing in the game.
Really cannot see why I would want to.

I have nothing against it and am happy for any additional features that enrich the game for others.
If they put it in I would try it out.
I am more interested in voice options either for game commands or chat.
I find typing while playing a pain since I am already using both hands to play the game.

Not signed. I use twitter, and tweet on GW stuff but having it in game would be unnecessarily distracting and really kinda pointless. After a while it would turn into another lfg or wts spam channel and I'd really rather see those things integrated more professionally and securely in the game itself rather than being at the mercy of a third party site.

Twitter is secure enough that sites and apps are integrated with it.

Twitter isn't just about tweeting what you're doing moment to moment. If you don't find that interesting, then don't follow such users.

Cuilan, there are far more important things to implement in-game right now then twitter.
Cant you just simply run both twitter and gw at the same time?
To switch between them it takes about less than 5 seconds.
Oh and btw, the security you are talking about has nothing to do with lfg or wts spam.

Is it so hard to play in window mode?

PvE is all c+space anyways. I browse many forums, go on facebook/myspace, chat with friends, look up stupid things on google and I still can do my vanquishs and missions.

There is no reason to have this kind of stuff in the game.

Anyways, we have what 2 developers working on GW1. I'd rather they not waste their time with something like this. Proper skill balances, new content, anything would be better than this...

Here is your /sign, probably the only one you will get. I'm not saying that there should be a huge, FULL BLOWN twitter client in GW though. Maybe an additional tab at the end to post things or a --post shortcut like TwitterBar.

yes... I can picture it now... they added Twitter! *uninstall due to twitter, not actual game* and for far more important stuff... do you mean like the recycled z stuff? they could have done the things you mentioned in that time but you know, they won't do any of that. Guild Wars is like Bibble.

that second part is lol though. you're*

Oh, and it is quite annoying to minimize the game since that takes like 30 or more seconds till it comes back each way.

If this didn't deal with Twitter, and was a custom status message for in Guild Wars, everybody here'd be all over it. But that's what I think Twitter is, a big status message website, with them not being deleted by default so you can read older ones.

I want an addon to remove the compass and put a mini window with youtube videos... you know... for when I'm getting old waiting for an AB/FA match.

I'd rather get a functional XTH than tell everyone every second what I'm doing. And before you start with the "is not that you post every 2 mins", if you don't do it so often then why dou you mind switching windows?

Twitter can die.
Wow can die.
Lots of things can die.

And agreeed, I see no point to it or why it's so popular.
Heck, if you want to tell people what you're doing call them. I honestly wouldn't want to know every little detail of what someone is doing. Pointless and a waste of time. Seriously, what's with younger generations and pure texting and whatnot..and many of them can't even type properly. lol. Go out and do something in the big world of reality where things you do can actually be of some consequence.

Most of the new replies are all stereotypes. Twitter does have a point, it's a site that brings people together who wouldn't have normally met on other sorts of sites or online ways.

When I tweet, I never tweet about anything I'm doing. Again, even Guild Wars has its own Twitter. I don't see any of the developers tweeting like that.

If you don't like people who can't spell or tweet about everything they do, don't follow (add them to the list of people you subscribe updates from) them?

I don't understand why any of you would WANT to follow people who tweet about boring stuff. o.O

And I'll say it again, none of us knows what's required to make this happen...

Besides, if your PC can't handle the alt+tab method you sjhould buy a new one or lower your settings. I won't even the mention the fact that Twitter is one big blown up hype and is likely to die soon. I've seen it before and I will see it again.
