Same here. In my defense, I was a WoW-convert and there were no henchies in Pre, so I just Leeroyed out into the dark, scary world all alone at level 4.

MONK!

Fun and challenging to play both in PvP and PvE, requires fast thinking, predicting and good decision making. Has fast paced gameplay, spells that cast very fast, can heal, can prot, can deal damage, can run good PvE-only skills with its 4 energy regen. Easy to get into groups. Beautiful looking characters and armors.

The list goes on.

Necro. At first, it was because I loved to command a huge army. Now, it's because I love to command huge amounts of damage in multiple forms. I also love not having to wait for my energy to regen or otherwise worrying about energy management.

it took me almost a month of testing to decide my main profession, did warriors, necros, mesmers, rangers, monks and none did it for me, then i made an ele and sticked to it, and even though in those early times it was easier to nuke, i always ended with low energy because lets face it, frikkin fire attunement can be obtained until you reach kryta ¬¬

So, I love and spoil my ele, and that's what i've been running mainly since august 2005, i have chars any profession but derv/rit, but when help is needed I alway bring my ele.

From time to time, when I feel like smashing thing I grab my war because i just love the hammer bash animation... a big warrior smashing someone's head with a big summit hammer, that must hurt XD

I love healing people (when the people have enough intelligence not to run into mobs), creating more effective healing builds, etc. It's usually not hard to find a group when you're a monk.

My Mesmer and Ele are a close second though...

Sin, Ranger, Monk. In that order.

When played properly, assassins are incredibly awesome. Tons of damage through criticals with scythe or bow, get bored of that and go as caster sin or just plain daggers. Whether it's PvE dungeon running or ecto farming or PvP surprise knockdown and slaughter, I love being an assassin. My main and will always be.

As for rangers, I love the interrupts, the conditions, the spike damage from splinter/barrage and the spirits. The pets can be cute too. Awesome stances plus self heals keep me practically invulnerable. Expertise rocks. Also I absolutely love the bows. Bows are the nicest looking weapons in this game IMO.

And Monk? Aside from idiots blaming me for their deaths, healing is fun. Farm as a 600 or 55, heal your group or smite down enemies with a Jesus beam. The only draw back to being a monk is always being the one blamed first no matter how far out of my range, over aggroing or stupid they are. Other players are what keeps me from playing my monk as much.

Mesmers would be my profession of choice. Fast casting helps fit spells in less time, condition spreading is...interesting, and disruption is pretty unique.

Hopefully mesmers will become better at disruption in Guild Wars 2 and hopefully the new game will allow such a play style to be more useful.

Favourite, to least favourite.

Elementalist - First profession I've ever played. Fell inlove with it instantly.
Ritualist - I've always wanted to play the profession since I played the Factions trial, but I never got around to making a toon when I had a trial, so once I got the campaign I made my character and fell inlove.
Mesmer - I was so/so with this profession. Then once I made my survivor, I learned to love it.
Ranger - Always loved Rangers, but it took me a while to make the profession.
Necromancer - I like dealing with the dead, but I'm not too shabby about the profession. It's fun, but I have to be in the mood to play. (I do love Curses)
Warrior - Have to be in the mood, but when I do play I love playing Axe warrior.
Assassin - After giving the profession a second chance I learned to like the profession and use the daggers. I will get to Crit scythe and barrage soon.
Monk - Always hated it. I was convinced to make a monk for farming and that's pretty much why I have a monk. I like my monk, but nothing near as much as my ele.
Dervish - Slightly boring profession. I don't like the way my dervish looks but she's my first Derv. Another prof I have to be in the mood to play.
Paragon - Never liked it. I never use the prof for heroes or secondary. I hardly play my paragon character. But I'm giving it a third chance.

Elementalist.

I just don't like playing melee classes. I've never been good as a damage sponge. The Elementalist is very versatile, too. You can go Air Spiker and destroy one foe/spread conditions to the enemy team quickly, Water Snare and virtually stop the enemy offense/retreat, Earth and go on defense, or Fire and simply blast the crap out everything behind your tanks. Fire Magic is also the biggest spectacle in combat, though it has competition from the Minion Masters. You can swing your axe, but everyone can hit the enemy. Only Fire Magic is going to set an entire group ablaze and then literally rain meteors or balls of fire on them.

I use Fire Attunement and Glowing Gaze for near infinite energy combined with Glyph of Renewal in order to actually spam Meteor Shower. Very fun.

I just like casters in general. In second place for me comes Necromancers.

I prefer midline casters just due to playstyle and how much time I've spent playing them. So that'd be Mes/Ele/Nec. Monks are also really fun in a competitive setting.

I don't really enjoy the 4 added classes - don't suit me.

Monk for sure.

I like Jesusbeaming low level monsters when I help out lower level players. It's just so damn satisfying after all those times they killed me when I had no clue how to play. I like 600 monking CoF and watching Mumu burn. I like 55 monking anywhere I can and feeling like a bald Superman. I like the fact that when I /dance and /flex I look like Bruce Lee on methamphetamines. And I like how sexy my Tengu weapons look with my glasses. Oh and despite the current trend I will NOT be getting Chaos Gloves for my Monk... besides I never use AL60 armor anymore anyways...

On a serious note...

I am starting to like Mesmers more and more. There is something utterly satisfying about watching an opponent run through their whole skill bar and not get 1 skill off successfully. Can you say owned? I can.

I want to say mesmer.
Hell, I could even go further and say a Me/N.
The problem?
The problem is that I PvE and the way I want to play that guy isn't compatible with it. See, the reason why I love that combo are the insanely potent non-damaging offensive options. I am dying to use Arcane Languor. Blackout. Spirit Shackles. Signet Of Humility. Diversion. Arcane Thievery/Larceny. Power Leak. Signet Of Weariness. Ether Lord. Feedback. Ether Phantom. Drain Delusions. Soothing Images. Shared Burden. Migraine. Panic.
Combine that with a necro's Curses - and you end up with a unique character I have never had the pleasure of playing in any game and is one of the main reasons why I think so highly of GW.

And then ... PvE foes die in 3 secs and if you don't contribute your 150 damage per kill, you're worthless.

So, I will go with the ritualist.
The guy gets to use the same YMLD!, EVAS, FH! AP-combo, he just gets to wear prettier outfits, has better animation and has access to spirits and ashes - two mechanics that I also love. Don't get me wrong - the guy still is REALLY good, it's just that if the mesmer worked in PvE - I probably wouldn't even care.

Short version:
It should be the mesmer, but because he doesn't work, it's the ritualist.

I have pretty much reached the point where I don't want to play anything other than warrior.

In PvE, I will only play warrior (one of my three) unless a specific location calls for something else (SF etc.).

In PvP, I will play any other profession if asked to, but I really would rather play warrior . Load up one of my 3 warriors (who are all PvPready) and let's go kill stuff! I love the feeling of being in the face of another team, being a leader on my team, and knowing that my good performance is crucial to a win. Oh, and I love yellow numbers and eating red bars for breakfast. No other profession even competes with the damage output of a good warrior.

My favorite class depends on where I am playing. My "title chaser" is an Ele. She can deal damage and play support as needed.

Should I decide to spend my online time in presearing, it could be any class. I have all 6 core classes and play them all. Account #1 has my W/R Charr farmer. Account #2 is my 'mule' account and has a W/ chasing gifts from Nicholas Sandford. Account #3 has all 6 core professions, a necro for the gifts, and the others for just killing things. All 6 are "perma pre".

Before Factions was released, I would have said Monk was my favorite class. How the game has changed.

In all other games its the Elementalist sort of character, which is why my Ele was my first char. In GW though my favourite is my War because it takes a lot more skill to play the primary frontliner than in other games (from what I've seen anyway). It's also fun because I'm at the front of the action and can see everything firsthand, instead of being back out of the mess.

Although I don't play it, it has to be the Mesmer. It is very unique, as I have not seen it anything like it any other MMOs. But the main reason is that it's very powerful, especially Power Block, and it can shut down an entire bar or player.

Warrior. I am a melee type of person. I like the whole "fights bravely with his/her life at stake for the sake of his/her goals and/or comrades"

Not to mention the cool armor, weapons and well balanced damage (not weak or overpowered).

It's a must for me that she is female though. I truly admire strong and willful girls (and the heavy armor fetish kind of kicks in too lol! Vabbian armor ftw!!)

I know what you mean. I have a mesmer that I really don't play, as I never got my head round the style. But that doesn't stop me admiring those that can make it work - it's an awesome class.

For myself, in terms of playing enjoyment, I love Ritualist and Necro, though I mostly play as Monk. That's very satisfying playing too. I never got to grips with Warrior. Too much Melee. I prefer to stand back and get the overall picture. Ele is good but I haven't played it properly in ages. The others I play every now and then, but meh.

Summary: Probably Ritualist overall, but Monk is more team-friendly to play, as AI monks often suck, and I tend only to play alone or with my brother. (Who, bless him, is a 'rush-in-and-die' warrior. He's even played Ranger as primarily melee. I'm teaching him strategy now coz I just felt sorry for him.)

I love my monk for different reasons:

first because i like (from a "fantasy background" point of view) to play a character who can heal, save teammates' life etc;

second because i prefer to stay in the backline, being able to control all the battlefield and to coordinate my team;

third because i think it's the most difficult and challenging profession to use (in PvP).

My second choice is probably the necro, for the huge damage he can deal (when used properly).

Have to say Ritualist. they may not have one clear spot where they shine, but they are can be used for many things such as healing, knock-downs, off-tank spirits, and melee DPS. they are probably the next best Hybrid class compared to Rangers.
